    Do I have a leak?

oh interesting thought. I am missing some tiles that we are on a wait list to get repaired and the wall needs repaired too, it's pretty low, I wonder if it's there. the pool store is coming out to look next week. I could let it get low but we have a party Monday. it's also hard to shut the...

    Do I have a leak?

I always feel it's a possibility in the beginning of the season because I forget how often I have to add water. that said, I have had a leak at my skimmer a couple times. It looked like I may have something open there so I put some pool putty or whatever the pool store told me to use last time...

Correct amount of chlorine for a salt water pool?

salt is actually generally kept higher than non salt pools because CYA is higher. I keep mine at 5-7.

    how big is my pool?

I've always used the 12,000-15,000 gallon estimate because it's what the pool store guys told me (they open and close for me) and when I've posted various things here, some of you agreed. Today I did a FC test, I was at 5.5 FC. I used 15,000 gallons in pool math and added 69 oz chlorine to...

    where/how to store CYA?

So I found a partial bag of CYA in my backyard. So it was there all last summer and through the winter. I need it, can I use it? Is it still good?

    Improved CYA sock method

ok good, my pool is white. didn't seem to affect anything. I don't know if it dissolved or my vacuum picked it up.

pool is open - chlorine questions

thanks it's already in, I didn't realize they put that in. I haven't tested calcium yet. I usually test it once per year as it's never been an issue.

pool is open - chlorine questions

aaaaand after all this my FC is down to 14 already. OMG, why didn't I just listen. so at approx 40 CYA and 14 FC we should be ok? I'm still too high to test ph but I'm gonna try anyway.

pool is open - chlorine questions

Thanks, I do know all this and I know how to care for my pool and I have a proper test kit. I was just asking about this that they put in and what affect it might have on my water since I'm not familiar with it. I only ever had chlorine, salt, CYA, and muriatic acid to my pool. nothing else...

pool is open - chlorine questions

Ugh, I just looked at the empty bottles and found an empty package of this: Burnout 3 it says it's a chlorine treatment, so hopefully it's ok but is probably another reason I'm so high..ingredients are calcium hypclorite 57.8%. I've never seen this package left before. I do always tell them...

pool is open - chlorine questions

I just have no clue what my pH is though. they put the chlorine in before I could test (which is normal) but normally they only add 4-5 gallons which in the past has put me at around 10-12 FC for my first test. this is craziness.

pool is open - chlorine questions

Ok, I've added 5 lbs of CYA,I think that should put me around 40 only if I had zero. I'm waiting several hours to test FC since that's a lot of drops to keep using. What about pH? Could we be jumping into a bad pH situation? I'm nowhere near being able to test pH.

pool is open - chlorine questions

I just thought of something - doesn't it take a few days after adding CYA to see it in a test? Am I just relying now on FC level coming down to let the kids swim today? and I'm preventing that by adding all this CYA? lol oh man.

    chlorine levels and robots

Ok so I don’t have any CYA but I’m adding now. So once it’s safe to swim it’s safe for the robot? Thanks! Does water temp matter?

    chlorine levels and robots

I got a new Maytronics robot this year and I opened my pool today. they put in 9 gallons of chlorine (not sure why) and my FC is 25! anyway, I read that I can only use the robot in max 4 FC - I mean, I have to keep mine around 6 usually because I have an SWG. I assume that is ok, but is it ok...

pool is open - chlorine questions

I just thought of that! So, why is it unsafe to swim in a pool at FC 24 and CYA of 20?

pool is open - chlorine questions

according to pool math, I have to add more than I have (5lbs) to get to 70. I can't add 5 lbs to a sock so I won't be overshooting.

pool is open - chlorine questions

OK, CYA is less than 20. Potentially 0. Can I now fill a sock with some? am I aiming for 60? that's what I need for my SWG anyway but if I can't get there by tomorrow, there's no swimming until the chlorine lowers?
  30. EmilyOTR

pool is open - chlorine questions

ok I won't have 60 or 70 by tomorrow, getting to that point generally take me a couple days or more. So you are saying if my FC is 24 tomorrow, to swim I need a CYA of 60? Crud. Ok, try the test indoors, I didn't know that was possible. I hate this test so much.
