    Heater questions

I wouldn't say it doesn't matter but given our inability to get competitive quotes from reputable companies you're right that this may be our only option. I was hoping someone would say that the price looks reasonable. :-) I'd love to DIY but I have no idea how. LOL.

    Heater questions

Thanks, I really appreciate it. It's a full-time job trying to find companies that have a reasonable reputation and then 99% of them don't respond to our inquiries.

    Heater questions

Thanks. Unfortunately, that is proving next to impossible. We were able to get one other and it was cheaper, but I could find far fewer reviews on that company and what I did find was mixed and pretty much for weekly maintenance, not adding equipment.

    Heater questions

Also, how does this price look? We haven't finalized the exact heater as we would prefer low nox (don't need it in our state, but if it's better for lungs we're all for it) and I realize this is cupro nickel (it's what the pool company suggested) but what about the rest of it?

    Heater questions

Hello. I have more heater questions. We are considering a Raypak natural gas heater. I am worried about the copper heat exchanger. I realize it shouldn't cause us trouble unless we don't keep our water balanced, which we do our best to do, but if we do keep it balanced should we expect it to...

    Heater questions

Good question. We haven't thought to ask the gas company about the clearance needed. I'm not sure what the plan is for placement. More questions to ask!

It took me a couple of days but here are pictures of our pad and the gas meter. It's all in the same spot.

    Heater questions

True! I think I keep hoping there's an option with electric bills + no solar cover + blissfully warm water constantly. :-) I get that's not going to happen. I guess we need sleep on it and post pictures tomorrow. I really appreciate your help-- I have analyzed this forever to the point of doing...

    Heater questions

That's very helpful, thank you. Can I ask a stupid question? I understand that there will be evaporation and heat loss at night but will it generally be adequate to run a NG heater for a few hours in the am to get the pool back up to temperature (86 sounds like heaven) and expect it to maintain...

    Heater questions

Thanks, I will try those calculators now. That's a bummer about the pool cover. We don't have an auto cover. We have thought about getting a solar cover but anticipate that it will be a real pain to put on and take off so we either won't do it, or won't swim so we don't have to deal with it...

    Heater questions

In the interest of keeping all of our questions together, I will also share that despite spending MANY hours reading and trying to figure out whether a gas heater or HP is the best solution for us, I can't seem to do it. I am so frustrated but know that if I don't figure this out soon, I'll have...

    Heater questions

Sorry-- I am not using the quote function properly I don't think. I didn't intend to have so many separate replies. The gas meter is about 5 feet from the pool equipment. I'm under the impression that the electrical circuit would just need to go to the electrical box that's already near our...

    Heater questions

Yes- the gas company finally did come out and do whatever they needed to do so we could install a 400K BTU heater.

    Heater questions

I am not confident that we have the space for a HP because I know they are large and we were only anticipating (at most) a gas heater at the time. The company we spoke with says there is room. I will post a picture tomorrow.

    Heater questions

Thank you! I will say that this company shows up as authorized to install on the Rheem website, it's just that is all I've been able to discover about them.

    Heater questions

Hello everyone! We need some advice. We want to add a heater to our 2-year old pool. We are still trying to decide between a gas heater and a heat pump (subject for another post), but are surprised by the pricing we’ve received. Despite reaching out to several local companies to get quotes, only...

Plaster coming off-- should we be worried?

Hello! We have noticed pieces of what appears to be chipped off plaster when we skim our pool. We haven't closely examined the entire pool surface but haven't noticed anywhere where it is coming off. Is there any other explanation for having this in our water (see picture)? Our pool was only...

    So frustrated with SLAM

Well that's interesting. I think I probably do it both ways because sometimes when I hold it vertical I get many more drops than I intend and I have to dump and start over. I will be very careful to only hold it vertically in the future. My husband is so excited that we can let the FC drop for a...

    So frustrated with SLAM

Thank you so much! I will definitely report back. Hopefully having a record will help someone else in the future. :-)

    So frustrated with SLAM

It is a little raised. The lot drops a little towards the rear right corner of the yard. We have a retaining wall behind the pool that is maybe 2 feet tall on the right side and gets smaller towards the left. We only have a winter cover and we have never put it on ourselves, but I guess we could...

    So frustrated with SLAM

Thanks to all for the help! We will let the FC come down and try another OCLT. Hopefully we'll be good then but will report back. :-)

    So frustrated with SLAM

Yes to all of that except we haven't been using pool math. We've had a pretty good feel for how much we need to add and thought that if we went over 20 it was ok. We usually let the pump run a lot more than 30 minutes before taking the final FC test.
