What is this? Translucent scales on surface

Doesn’t look like anything I have around me. Ugh. So nothing I can do about it for now. My skimmers don’t seem to do a great job of pulling it in, even running 24/7 and the net just passes through it

What is this? Translucent scales on surface

Finally got a good photo. This stuff is driving me nuts. Any idea what I am dealing with here? Something related to pool chemistry or organic material? And how do I get rid of it?? Thanks

    Balancing Check In

Will do What’s the best way to add calcium chloride? I’ve added smaller amounts by just casting and brushing, but this is going to be a good deal more than that.

Thoughts on upping CYA and CH? FC levels are good now

    Balancing Check In

Yeah that’s about right. Nothing more drastic than that I guess. I’m very new to pool ownership so wasn’t sure if it was unusual to be going through that much liquid chlorine but what I’m seeing lines up with that. Will be ordering that SWG today

    Balancing Check In

CSI is -0.05 Getting more liquid chlorine this morning. Should I get my CYA levels up as well though? Like I said, it’s below 30 for sure and any sun seems to eat through the FC.

    green pool

Im a newbie here but I believe the instructions are to get good test kit and not rely on Leslie’s, and follow SLAM process. Also I don’t know what kind of robot you have but mine wouldn’t be all that useful getting tons of organic matter off the bottom of the pool. I think you’d want to skim or...

    Balancing Check In

Been use PoolMath app, attached my current numbers. Even at the 30 mark on the CYA test the dot is faintly visible so I think I’m even lower there. It does seem like any sunlight eats up my FC pretty quick but pool looks great otherwise. I have been using liquid chlorine to raise FC normally...

Nick of time too - nearly 90 here tomorrow!

    DE returning to pool

Whelp after I replaced one of the valves, the MPV, the manifold, grids and the o-rings, I went back to the filter and found that the manifold wasn't all the way on the stand pipe. Which is odd because that's how it was when they opened it, and then I must have repeated it when I replaced them...

Made the mistake of trying to remove spider gasket

Thank you. I'm tracking the FC/CC levels closely. And I got the pump up and running anyway so I have some piece of mind. Now I've gotta figure out this leak issue

Made the mistake of trying to remove spider gasket

Thanks. Of course we got a big storm last night which knocked a ton of junk into the pool. Skimmed all that out and I'm running the 'bot. Pollen is also crazy here right now, so that's my biggest concern as I can't really skim that out.

Made the mistake of trying to remove spider gasket

So I've been battling an issue with DE going back into my pool from the returns. I replaced the grids, manifold and stand pipe O-ring. I inspected the stand pipe itself carefully. When I tried adding DE after this, same result. Clouds of white from the returns. I decided to try the spider...

    DE returning to pool

So, I had some DE left over in the bucket from last night that I stopped adding when I started seeing it at the return. Because I was running the pump again I thought I would try to add the rest of it because at this point what's the harm in a little more in my pool. I did it slowly mixing with...

    DE returning to pool

It's very visible when I'm adding DE to the skimmer. At this point I have the pump off so no it doesn't do it throughout the day. Most of it seems to settle to the bottom. Right now I turned the pump on and am brushing and running robot with no filters in. Presumably that will kick it up and I...

    DE returning to pool

Nah all good. I was hoping it was the grids too and at least I can eliminate that as a possible cause, assuming I can trust the new grids aren't defective. I'm having a local mom and pop (literally) shop come out today to take a look. I just need to get this fixed because now I'm not running the...

Yes. Here you go. Should I take the MPV apart and check the spider gasket?

    DE returning to pool

Ughhhhhh. Replaced the grids, manifold and stem pipe o ring. Still have DE pouring out of the returns. Like the skimmer connects right to the jet basically. I'm at my wits end.

    So how much DE now?

Well, this sucks. DE still pouring out of the returns. It's as if the filter isn't even there. Just spraying right out from every return. Only other thing I could think to check was the drain, which can be set for return or suction. So I closed the drain on both ends, then tried again, no...

Thank you for the quick responses. Shut it down and I'm heading to Lowe's now.

    So how much DE now?

Well let's imagine I didn't have DE on hand and need to buy it right now. Should my pump be off or does it not matter.

    So how much DE now?

Okay my concern was that it seemed like alot in the water, but I guess not. Should I not run the pump until I get the DE in there?

    So how much DE now?

So, for anyone not familiar with my other threads, here is the rundown New pool owner (old pool). Had it opened and cleaned. They tried to add DE but stopped when they noticed it was coming from the returns. I take the filter apart, hose down the grids, inspect everything, looks okay...
