Sand in the pool after backwash and rinse.

Thanks TS. Lol. My wife loved the ducks. It was fun to watch their mannerisms. No sign of sand at the wasteline. But now that you have mention it. I am probably not rinsing long enough. I’ve haven’t changed my 30 second rinse time since adding the sand. And frankly neglected to ensure...

Sand in the pool after backwash and rinse.

Hello. Last season when cleaning my sand filter I notice that the sand level was low, below half, so added 100 lbs of new sand to bring it closer to 3/4 full. Since then I’ve noticed sand in the pool each time I backwash and rinse. Which I don’t have to do very often as I have a robot...

    Ducks enjoying a swim

The droppings in and around the pool can be a mess, for sure. Lol The pool uses a bit more chlorine it seems when they are around.

    Ducks enjoying a swim

We think so. The male doesn’t come around much these days but we seem to get a daily visit from the female still. She eats all of the bugs off the surface of the water, which I appreciate.

    Ducks enjoying a swim

Hi. I have a pair of ducks that visit this time of year for a few weeks before they leave until next season. They like to swim and drink from my 5ppm chlorinated pool. My wife thinks this will cause them to be sick. I think if won’t hurt them for a few weeks. But we don’t know either way...

Change in pH effect vinyl liner

I didn’t mean literally “dump” and I should have said “put it all in at one time”. This isn’t my first time adding chemicals but I appreciate your response as it kinda answer my question. Thanks

Change in pH effect vinyl liner

I recall hearing early in my pool owning days before I found TFP that lowering your pH too fast could damage your vinyl liner. I don’t recalling reading anything here on lower your pH in stages so thought I’d see if that is a myth or truth. The reason I ask is I need to lower my pH from 8.4 to...

Taylor Reagents in Ontario Canada - not hard to get.

I’ve seen a lot of posts about it being hard to get Taylor Reagents in Canada. It is not hard in Ontario at all. Just got my refills delivered today in a 2 day turn around. Try Pool&Hot Tub Depot if you’re in Ontario. They have everything you need.

    R-004 reagent past due?

is there an obvious result when your R-004 reagent is no longer accurate? I just tested my PH and the result is a fluorescent pink. Like off the chart pink. It can’t be right. Is this a sign my reagent is no good? It is 2 seasons old so starting my 3rd season with it. There is no best...

    Diatomaceous Earth....how much?

Is this a one and done thing? or is it an annual add? I guess I am wondering why they sell it in 10lb bags if you only need up to a couple of cups at most.

    Diatomaceous Earth....how much?

I would like to add some DE to my sand filter and am wondering how much? The smallest bag I can get from the pool store is 10lbs. I read the article on DE and it explains how to add it well enough but I am a bit more confused about how much to add and when to stop adding it. How many pounds...

    Lowering PH before a SLAM.

I need to do a slam and it looks like my PH is over 8. How quickly can I bring the PH down to 7.2? Can I bring it down all at once or should I do it in stages, and if so what is the recommended maximum to lower PH? Thanks.

Alright. I’ll get it up to level and maintain....not like I have anything else to do.

    When to add Chlorine?

I thought algae didn’t grow in temps below 60 degrees F. Is that not true? I had 7ppm when I open it but haven’t added anything since opening. I just don’t want to chlorinate If there isnt any Algae to kill. There isn’t any visible algae present as yet, but don’t want any to start either.

    When to add Chlorine?

It Is early spring here and I have been running my filter for the last 10 days to clear up the cloudy water as much as possible before starting my daily dosing of chlorine to maintain my 4 ppm FC. Here are my numbers this morning: Water Temp 55 FC 0 CC 0 PH 7.4 TA 50 CH 125 CYA 30 Usually...

    Heater replacement - advice needed

Good plan, gas appliance can be very dangerous. Be safe. A good servicing by a professional will probably save you several grand this summer by not having to buy a new one. Good luck.

    Variable Speed Pump

The heater manual of course speaks in Gallons Per Minute as opposed to the RPM of the pump. It requires a minimum of 35 GPM. There is a chart in my pump manual that has an axis versus volume in GPM, which is Total Dynamic Head in FT of Water. See attached pic. What is Total Dynamic Head in...

    Variable Speed Pump

My heater is gas. I’ve never tested the lower threshold of RPM on what the heater needs to run but have had it as low as 1300 and the heater runs. I’ll see if the manual mentions anything about that and will test it once I turn my heater on in a few weeks.

    Variable Speed Pump

I do have the bubble cover, it’s the discipline to use it. Lol. I am wondering if running the pump over night is more likely to maintain the heat? Electricity is cheapest from 11 pm to 7 am. also as an aside... does a bubble cover help with water evaporation?

    Variable Speed Pump

Thanks. What about maintaining heat? It’s doesn’t usually get consistently above 80 here until July. I like, or I should say my wife likes the pool at about 80 before she’ll even dip a toe. Any advise on maintaining the heat? Trying to use as little electricity and natural gas as possible...

Just about to set up my schedule for the season on my variable speed pump and was wondering how others set up their pumps, and why? I can set up a schedule with 1 to 3 sessions per 24 hours at variable speeds up to 3600 rpm. Any suggestions to consider would be great. Thanks for your input...

Correct amount of Sand in Filter

Thanks guys. The sand is loose, so I am going to add 100lbs to top it up. Fortunately, the pool store is open for curbside pickup. Going to head there now. Haven’t been to the pool store for anything but chlorine since I joined TFP. Nice to know they are opened during the Covid Spring.

Correct amount of Sand in Filter

Just opening my pool and cleaning my sand filter and wondered, out loud..”how much sand should be in the filter?” Right now in my 24“ sand filter I have approximately 10” of sand. Is that enough? If not, how much should it be? Should I replace the 10“ of existing sand with new sand? Sand is...
