Using more than one air pillow to keep water off?

I have the siphon style pump as well. Have you tried the bucket lid idea? I never considered that it was sucking water through the cover, rather that the weight of the water was forcing the cover down and water was seeping through. I don't understand how the lid will prevent it.

Using more than one air pillow to keep water off?

My pool is 18 round and was thinking of using 2 4x8 pillows this year and not draining below skimmer. The idea is to keep water from pooling on and subsequently leaching through the cover. I bought a brand new (not cheap) solid cover last year and water still leached through. So I was pumping...

Hayward perflex ec65a. No need to backwash?

I cleaned it when I closed it on October, used muriatic acid on the grid. When I opened the pool the water was clear, maybe slightly cloudy. Haven't felt the need to clean the filter, no pressure rise, not a lot of debris in the pool. Only vacuumed a handful of times, each time very small...

Hayward perflex ec65a. No need to backwash?

I have this filter, nowhere can I find a reason to backwash unless the pressure keeps rising after bumping then they recommend replacing the DE. My filter pressure has never risen more than just a couple psi over an entire season. Never even have to bump according to the directions on the...

    Little specs of algae.. mustard?

So I wanted to update, pools been clean, water is clear, keeping my FC on the upper end of my target FC LEVEL (pool math says 4-8) and it hasn't dropped lower than 5.5 since the slam. Lose about 2.5-3ppm over the course of a hot sunny day in full sun. I still get very small specks on the liner...

Adding CYA, want to use dichlor, math help.

How do I do that lol? I always just sprinkled it in around the pool like the dichlor faery. Just started BBB this season.

Adding CYA, want to use dichlor, math help.

Thanks. Is there any reason I shouldn't just use the dichlor? Other than maybe pH decrease? My pH is 7.4 so it shouldn't be an issue, I'll just turn the jet up to the surface to aerate.

Adding CYA, want to use dichlor, math help.

I was going by the directions on the bag. Says to mix in warm water and add skimmer.

Adding CYA, want to use dichlor, math help.

Been filling my pool a lot last couple weeks, it's been dry and windy. Cya is down to around 30 but I think less than 30. I'd like to bump it up 10ppm . I have 1lb of 99% dichlor and I also have dry stabilizer. Dichlor would be easier to just add it to the pool no pre mixing. Pool is 7600...

    Little specs of algae.. mustard?

Passed OCLT finally. Just .5ppm FC loss, CC at zero. I need to add water, had a lot of evaporation this week. Haven't had much rain. Had to take the weir door off last night, was laying too flat causing air bubbles to get in the pump.

    Little specs of algae.. mustard?

Yea I'm doing another day, added chlorine 2x already, gonna do one more before work and then again after work. Then I guess I have to bring it up to mustard algea shock level for one day.

    Little specs of algae.. mustard?

I'm going on day 5 of SLAM and still lost 1.5ppm over night. (20ppm - 18.5ppm) Tested at 11.30pm and this morning at 7am. Should I test earlier like before the sun comes up? (Sun was partially cloudy and low in the sky but I don't have any trees blocking it. I wouldn't consider that direct...

Forgot to lower pH before starting SLAM

I actually used cal hypo the first day because like I said I was in a rush, and this is all new to me. I just saw the option to slam with cal hypo on pool math and thought it would be fine. After that first shock I did switch to liquid. Before SLAM PH 7.8 TA 85 Water is and was always clear...

Forgot to lower pH before starting SLAM

So my pH was 7.8 before starting slam Ave I neglected to lower it. I was in a bit if a rush to get it started before I left home and I didn't realize until almost 2 days later. Would it hurt to throw in some dry acid to bring it down? I know I can't test it now because I'm at shock levels and...

SLAM day 4, is that algae still?

Such a pain in the Rear. It's tempting to just use a phosphate remover, both processes are annoying. I just took my pool ladder out and will clean it again before returning it to the pool. I didn't think to sanitize the kids swim jumpers either before they used them this year. That's on me. And...

SLAM day 4, is that algae still?

Any updates? I had this last year and thought I was in the clear this year but it's returned this week. This is my first year using the BBB method. Last year I used an algecide when closing the pool that got rid of it finally.

    Little specs of algae.. mustard?

Thanks you've been very helpful. I'm actually starting to think I maybe just have pollen that's settled to the bottom and not algea at all based on stove other threads I've seen on here. I really need to spend some more time on here looking around. It's collecting along creases and winkles in...

    Little specs of algae.. mustard?

Only thing is I've been going off the pool store test for cya. But I suspect that it's lower than their reading. I don't really like the cya test, it's hard to get a good reading IMO. I feel like I can always see the dot if I try. So I'm going to treat the pool as if the cya is 50ppm. That way...

    Little specs of algae.. mustard?

Thanks, I guess there was a few things I didn't fully understand, and I didn't think algea would start to grow that quickly at 3-3.5 ppm. Just gotta keep the chlorine a little higher, thanks for the tips..

    Little specs of algae.. mustard?

Thanks, I'm just not sure how it happened. I've been testing everyday. It was very hot this week and my pool is full sun all day, so the FC did drop to arround 3.5ppm one day. Recommended FC for my pool is 6ppm. Cya is around 45. I think I'm going to start keeping it at 8ppm.

    Little specs of algae.. mustard?

Thanks, I have the Taylor 2006c test kit. I lost 1.5ppm overnight. I didn't start the slam process properly, no time to vacuum but there's really not much in the pool, Few small debris. I just added more liquid chlorine back up to shock level. And will run the pump. Pool store test had...

    Little specs of algae.. mustard?

Starting last year I had small specs that look like dirt that get caught on creases in the floor of my vinyl liner of my 18' round above ground pool. Last year I thought it was just dirt or something. It wasn't until later in the season when I got green algae bloom that I found out my stabilizer...

    CYA vs chlorine ratio question

New member here... First year trying to actually understand my pool. Spent the first 6 years using pucks and ended up with 136ppm cya last season. Drained most of the water and I'm sitting at around 48ppm this year and my pool is about 7600 gallons. (18ft round above ground) I'm using the app...
