    Liquid Chlorine Usage Not Consistent

Yep, that occurred to me and I added more that morning. My normal routine is test and adjust in the morning. It's never under 4 and I just did my monthly full test this morning. CYA drifted down under 40 so that's my number now. Alkalinity also dropped from 70 to 60 but hardness is still...

    Liquid Chlorine Usage Not Consistent

Ah! Well that's the wonderful thing about this forum - you learn stuff. <grin> Yep I didn't know the CYA test was not linear and just figured it was just above the 40 line so that must be about 42. I don't mind using the larger amount of regents as it's now my workflow and I like the greater...

    Liquid Chlorine Usage Not Consistent

Thanks Kellyp! Yes I tested it yesterday afternoon to check that and 32oz at 10% kicked up the level from 4 to 5 which is pretty close to what I would expect in a 20,000 gal pool. The size of the pool is a best guess anyway. That's a good thougt on the OCLT so I will pursue doing that...

    Liquid Chlorine Usage Not Consistent

Thanks nobody291! Yes I'm using the Taylor test kit and test every morning. It's just that I'm needing so much more than last summer but I'm suspecting it was the Ozone unit which helped with the chlorine usage but that is removed now.

    Liquid Chlorine Usage Not Consistent

Hey folks, I hope all of you are doing well! I've been super happy with our pool which came with our house purchased in Sept of '19. It had a lot of problems but I sorted it all out and it's been nearly perfect for the past year. I use the fantastic Pool Math app to keep track of...

Checking My Thoughts On LC Purchases

That's a good idea Richard! I checked and its funny because I never realized there was a pool store even closer to me than the Leslie's store which is a good 15 minutes away. I think I'll call a friends pool guy and see where he gets his from. I spoke to him initially when we moved in back...

Checking My Thoughts On LC Purchases

Hey folks! I wanted to bounce this off on all of you. I found a great source of ChemTek LC at the local Bell Air market down the street. They seemed to always have it in stock and it tends to be about 3 months old. Then with the SIP going on, I noticed they were out but I had a couple cases...

    Strategy For Partial Pool Drain

Hi! Sorry for the late reply. My CYA was around 90 before draining. Since that last post, CYA seems stable around 40 to 45. I don't know enough about the pool shell problem to advise other than to say I had no issues. I did not drain it all the way, only about 2/3s. I know the owner...

    Strategy For Partial Pool Drain

Success! I ended up buying a submersible 1/2 HP pump to finish the planned drain. Drained it only 50% but that was enough to lower my CYA to 30. After refilling and adjusting chlorine and PH, this is what I ended up with. Hopefully, this is much better. Thanks for the suggestions. 5.6,FC...

    Strategy For Partial Pool Drain

Ah! Good point Rancho and something I had not considered. I'll see where I'm at when I get down to the level of the side cleaner port. Good news is I need to buy a submersable pump anyway because I just had a tankless water heater installed and I'll need it for descaling. Had one at the...

Thanks Jim! Yep, I definitely don't plan on leaving it unattented. Will not let it run overnight.

    Strategy For Partial Pool Drain

I figured this was the most logical place for this post. Appologies if I guessed wrong. <grin> So on advise I've gotten here on TFP, I'm going to attempt to do a partial drain of my in-ground pool to lower my CYA levels. The issue I'm concerned about is how to do it correctly given my...

    OK Who's Pool is This?

Not sure about the guys in white. They were either ambulance or tow truck. In the picture with two guys sitting, that was my dad getting info from the driver. He was unhurt as well. Pool had to be replastered so for a few weeks while waiting for that, it became a skateboard park. LOL!

    OK Who's Pool is This?

This was our pool back in around 1965. The driver was on his way home from a SCUBA lesson at the Y and had his flippers and everything in the car. LOL! He got t-boned at the intersection across from our corner lot and came crashing through the fence! Luckily no one was in the pool at the time!

    Chasing The Numbers

Thanks Marty! I'll take your advice and get the chlorine uptil the CYA comes down. I know you said I shouldn't the chlorox from Costco but I'm going to go ahead and use them up and never use them again. Perfect! I'll give that a try with the CYA. Yeah the only downside to this place is...

    Chasing The Numbers

Thanks for the advise Kim! I'm not sure if I'm understanding the part about the red tipped bottle. I have the K20006c kit and it has the small plastic bottle with a squeeze cap. It has the 7 and 14 ml markings. I'm sure I could come up with a method to dilute the sample by half if that's...

    Chasing The Numbers

Thanks Marty! I ordered a replacement o-ring last night. Should have it tomorrow. I don't recall ever seeing an o-ring in that cover so the guy that installed the pump must have missed installing it. Yikes!

    Chasing The Numbers

Thanks jseyfert3. I retested this morning without having turned off the UV system and I had 3.4 FC this morning which is about as high as I need it with this system running 16 hours a day. With switching to liquid bleach, it's going to take a while for me to find a rhythm. I'll keep using the...

    Chasing The Numbers

The weird thing is that when I cleaned the filter (first and only time) the pressure on the gauge was the same afterwards as it was when I finished cleaning. I was dubious about the accuracy of that but decided to wait and watch. It's not budged. Been sitting at 15psi for the past 4 months.
