    Upgrade skimmer without replacing liner

What do you hope to gain by going with a wide mouth ? Being here in Ontario i would think you use a solar blanket most all the time so skimming is reduced and the use of some sort of cleaner running around in the pool is what does the cleaning anyway ? If you had a wide mouth and wanted to go...

Where does all the water/snow go over the winter?

Once closed and all plugs are in place and cover on, mark your water level in the skimmer. With no rain / snow see if the level drops. With rain snow see if the level comes up. You will need to check every 24 / 48 hours.

How “dry” should lines be after blowing out for closing?

Big question is, how do you know how much water is left in there ? Ask yourself if you spend 5 hours again this year. how long will it take to cut and remove cement and or just dig ground Once you find when the frozen pipe broke.

Sump well/ dry pit - when to drain?

For sure useful. I go 1 foot lower then the lowest depth of the pool. Even without piping or a crushed stone path to the sump, water will in time make its own "underground river" to it and will more useful then nothing. Keep a pump with a float switch in there full time so it will kick in and...

Sump well/ dry pit - when to drain?

Water will sink to the lowest it can especially in gravel. 3.5 feet is lower the 3 feet. 8 feet is much lower then a 3 foot deep sump. So it just makes sense that the gravel will need to be filled before any water will show in your 3 foot sump. Water of course will also sink into clay if you...

Sump well/ dry pit - when to drain?

Not sure if there is a nice way to say this but, you sump is useless. It would not even be good enough if all of your pool was 3.5' deep, sorry. Not knowing your backfill material etc i would say you have soft corners in the deep end and from bottom to sides ? Anyway, to answer your question...

My Tenant's Pool has a Leak

Here in the Windsor area it is $220 for a diver and a guy using the electronic sniffer. That is a flat rate and they will patch holes in the liner for that price. Before getting someone to do this you should first plug your returns and skimmer to pump lines. If the water still drops get...

Pump basket doesn't fill completely .. at my wits end.. grrrrrrrrrrr....

Should be easy to prove but can be harder to fix. Do a pressure test with air. Any pool repair guy can do this or make up the necessary fittings yourself. You may need to use it over time if you keep the pool / house.

Quotes for a new liner in central New Jersey

10 years is not very old for a liner. For a few 100 bucks you should be able to find a diver with an electronica buzz box and find / fix your liner. Better then a few thousand bucks.

Is my pump completely dead, half dead, or...?

Can be a number of things, even a bad breaker pushing near the break amperage. It is a heat issue you have and proven when temps dropped, time got extended. Bad bearings to a defective thermal if that motor has one. Also a good blow / cleaning may be all it needs. ( needs to be taken apart )...

    Second Skimmer hole

That's the million dollar question. If it is plugged in the skimmer because of a leak there also needs to be a plug down in the main drain also. If that was the reason then the pipe from the main drain up to the skimmer can be drained and filled with antifreeze as a back up and never touched...

Chlorine and PolyQuat 60 compatibility or incompatibility

jmb. Put your safety cover on now and leave everything else as it is. Cut back huge on pump time and drop your stenner timer back also, maybe off every second or third day. Come November undo the straps enough to get at your returns and skimmer so you can blow your lines and winterize. You...

Vinyl liner pulling away in corners

Your set up in not like that image. Bend over and look into the coping, you'll see the lip you have to go UP and over, all the way and across the full width, all at the same time. The greater the Down pressure after this is what will hold the liner in place. All the "liner lock" does when...

Vinyl liner pulling away in corners

That's going to be a tuff on the fingers fix. Hopefully the liner is "newish" and somewhat soft. Feel on the back of the liner and you will feel a hook in the hard upper part. That needs to be Lifted Above the "hook" in the coping, pushed back and dropped, on the way out the two hooks will...

Vinyl Tear - suggestions for repair

I would only add if it were me i would bring the water up close to the rip first and let the water warm up as the liner may want to drop back into the corner below water level. If you tape it now and IF what i think happens, it will tear apart your tape job.

    Wrinkles in Shallow End Liner

If the liner was newer i would slip a hose down and suck the ground water from behind your liner, but i would not try that now. Problem was caused by ground water having more pressure then the low water in the pool. Now that you have filled and once the ground water level drops to summer depth...

    A slight "shock"

Wire mesh is Not put "in" or for your case "on" cement to be part of a Bond system. It is used to keep the cement from shifting when it cracks. The fact that it is used and it is metal it needs to be part of the Bond circuit. So all your mesh will do it sit there and be bonded just because it...
