I want to swim today-sparky pool with little green powder in bottom

To prevent bleach "polka dots", open the liquid chlorine bottle, lower into the water and tip to pour when the spout is near the water. Easy and no splash back. Cap it, dunk it to rinse off. Done.

    What to do after mouse?

^^^^Exactly! That joke about two guys camping and a bear is headed towards them. One reaches for his track shoes. The other says "that’s crazy, you can’t outrun a bear". The guy replies "I know…I just have to outrun you!". One of my favs…🐻

    What to do after mouse?

+1 on the Frog Log. Beats seeing me on my security cam running around the pool like a lunatic trying to net the stinkers. 🤣 Oh, and no carcasses in the skimmers anymore!

    Chlorine smell

Testing and caring for your pool not only becomes fun, but you will spend so much less money on chemicals too. Almost everything we use can be found in big box stores, supermarkets or online. Don't fall for the "Free test/Now I Have to Buy Something" guilt trip at pool stores. Avoid them, do...

Use pool time shock to chlorinate?

@Comeby There are also Pinch-a-Penny locations near us, as well as One Stop Pool Supply. Ace Hardware also, but tends to be pricey. Check Lowes too.

New to Pool ownership - high CYA and algae

Also, Lowes, Ace Hardware, Walmart, check Leslies (don't buy anything else!) or if you’re close to Deptford, check Ocean State Job Lot.

Lowes is rolling out a crappy new bleach

I saw that too and decided it depended on whether it was stored outside (3%) or inside (6%). :ROFLMAO:

    tf-100 test results

Keep an eye on the FC. It may drop more than you expect due to possible algae growth when your level was low. Great job getting the TF-100 test kit! Glad to have you here and ask any questions you have...plenty of knowledgeable folks here, as you've already noticed!

Long weekend do I care for my small pool?

If you have someone who can come by and add chlorine, you can leave the pre-measured amount for them to add.

    Adding a lot of bleach

Your signature shows you are testing with strips AKA "guess strips". Highly recommend you purchase one of the recommended test kits so you know exactly what is going on with your pool! Either the TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C (must be the C version).

What do you use to measure/ add

I also pour straight from the bottle....both chlorine and muriatic acid. I prefer not to transfer chemicals to another container if at all possible. Only handle it once. Lower jug halfway into the water, tip to pour, cap it, dunk to clean and done. I'm not worried about slightly...

And if you do, expect to be buying $$$ worth of "try this and come back if it doesn’t take care of it". Know what you’re putting in your pool. Know why. We will help! It’s what we’ve all learned here and are happy and proud to have pools that look like this...

    Adding tabs as a backup

Yes. The key is testing and knowing what’s in your pool and effects what you’re adding. Keep an eye on the tabs. Slower release of FC and you’re aware of the CYA and to watch that (it will build quickly). Use to see how much it will add. You can always use liquid chlorine as primary or, in...

Turn off the pump. If the filter gauge doesn’t go to zero, you need a new one.

Can’t get any free chlorine reading

Gauges can go bad, so give it a look. I know TSP can help clean suntan lotion/oil from the cartridges but I have never had to use it. Someone else will chime in with more info for you!

Can’t get any free chlorine reading

Does your filter pressure gauge go to zero when the pump is turned off? Could be time for a replacement. Try a high pressure nozzle to get deep into the pleats. Don't use a pressure washer as they are too strong for the filter media.
