Is anybody else (who just closed recently) already missing their pool??? 😟

I'll be here 😉 Let's hope for a more mild winter (here in PA at least) than was the case last year. Awww...your girls are adorable! Great pic, especially with the snow in the background!! Takes me back to when my daughter was young and traveled with us each summer. Enjoy these times, cause...

    Hayward Heat pump winterizing plugs

Not sure what your setup is. Like I said, I reattach the unions at the inlet and outlet so there's no way for critters to go in there. I do sometimes wind up with mice dirt / nesting material inside the custom cover I have for my pump. They used to eat holes in my solid pool cover also.

Is anybody else (who just closed recently) already missing their pool??? 😟

Today was nearly 80 degrees here and I found myself looking wistfully out the dining room window at a cover instead of the nice clear water. It was tough. Already making plans for next year's (earlier!) opening. Have to close by end of September next year (boo..hiss) so would like to get an...

    Winterization Plugs

Wow! Not sure I ever used some that long. It COULD be a case of..."they don't make 'em like that anymore" 🤔

    Winterization Plugs

Or less! I've started buying new plugs each summer. This year, however, one of the new plugs I bought just did not seal a return line, so I went back to an older plug. Llike many of us I'm sure, I keep a good amount of old gaskets, plugs, etc. just in case, but recently discarded some of the...

    Hayward Heat pump winterizing plugs

So you want to plug the inlet and outlets at the bottom of the pump? Aren't there unions that screw onto those to connect it to the plumbing? With my Jandy, I just keep them attached (but loose) all winter so as to allow any water to drain out that gets in there. Not really enough space for any...

    Refill the pool before closing?

I'm confused as to the advice. So you lowered the water level below the return lines to blow them out? And then are going to bring the water level back up after plugging the returns and adding antifreeze? Why not just leave the water level low. Unless you have a solid cover it'll fill up again...

    Temperature at closing

I've always heard that it's best not to close while the water is still fairly warm so as to help inhibit algae growth. I just closed with a water temp of 79. At some point, there are factors (like your tree!) that make it nearly impossible to postpone closing. Here's the thing though....I...

Main Drain - How can blowing it out leave it water-free?

Agree completely. I've never seen the ice on the pool more than a few inches thick. I always keep an empty gallon container in the skimmer pot as expansion material - and that will at times get completely caked in with ice around it. As to the return lines - except for the fact that without...

Main Drain - How can blowing it out leave it water-free?

?? Not sure what you're referring to...if I were to stuff something down in there I wouldn't be able to use my double plug.

What do I need for closing anthony style pool?

Yes...there is water in the skimmer until you're completely done and remove whatever remains in the skimmer pot. Nope...because you blew out the skimmer line first. The air had to push the water out of that line prior to being able to direct the air down to the drain. What I do is tighten the...

What do I need for closing anthony style pool?

Most rubber expansion plugs have the size right on the plug - usually on the wider end. Top of the DE filter tank, air compressor attaches where the pressure guage usually is. yep...exactly. 1. I don't think there's a need to push it down as far as possible. Once there are lots of bubbles...

Main Drain - How can blowing it out leave it water-free?

This is exactly what my Dad always said when he was still here and helped me winterize the pool. I'd personally never take a chance on it cause we're not talking about just the drain area but the much smaller pipe that goes up to the skimmer.

What do I need for closing anthony style pool?

What type of skimmer do you have? I also have an Anthony pool and use a double plug that has a #8 and #9 winterization plugs. You mentioned you already have a double plug though (?) I don't bother with a cyclone, but rather just hook my air compressor to the top of the filter tank and blow...

I'm trying to find a replacement pool leaf skimmer net insert for a "Lifegard" brand net

Just an update on this. Contacted that Recreonics company and verified that it's the correct net insert, so went to order it (around $18) and then discovered that you must have a $25 minimum purchase to place an order. I don't believe I've ever encountered that sort of thing in all my internet...

I'm trying to find a replacement pool leaf skimmer net insert for a "Lifegard" brand net

The two tines snap into the frame of the net. Pretty cool! Plus I like the narrow space near the handle since I can wrap a wire around in there and attach it to one of my hanger brackets on the fence that encloses the pool. Most of these leaf skimmers have no provision for attaching or hanging...

I'm trying to find a replacement pool leaf skimmer net insert for a "Lifegard" brand net

zea....that first link looks exactly like what I have (as least the part that holds the net). Thanks! I wish they'd show more picture detail of the insert. I've come across that R121216 on several sites. That TOO might work but, again, not enough pictures to really be sure. That one says it's...

    Baqua conversion and FC levels

Assume you're referring to white water mold? I've hardly ever had any problems - with chlorine or baqua - with visible algae growth.

When is it time to resurface your plaster?

I used this. Hardest part was swimming down to the bottom (most of my bare spots were in the deepest part) while holding a lump of the stuff and hoping it doesn't all fall apart by the time I got all the way down! I'd never be able to do it anymore due to ear / pressure-related issues. It took...

When is it time to resurface your plaster?

The pool builder that renovated my pool back in '14 (partly because of the same problem you're having) told me that essentially the decision to replaster, barring some issues that result in leakage, is more a subjective one, i.e. cosmetic as opposed to any urgent need. I always worried about the...

I'm trying to find a replacement pool leaf skimmer net insert for a "Lifegard" brand net

I bought this thing a few years ago. You pry the insert out with a screw driver. There is a track that runs all the way around the netted insert and then the whole thing snaps into a fork-like aluminum frame. It'a really cool idea but unfortunately my net tore. Now, I'm trying to find the insert...

Does anyone else have trouble with heavy rain increasing the filter pressure?

Drives me crazy. I backwashed yesterday, hosed off the grids really well, starting pressure 14 and today it's up to 18. Happens every single time it rains. Sometimes it goes back down but usually not. Oh well. Looks like DE change #12 (since June) coming up by tomorrow or day after.

    Baqua conversion and FC levels

How long did it take from start to finish? I've read here that most people elect not to do it during the swim season, but glad it worked for you. Might I ask why you decided to convert?

    Baqua conversion and FC levels

Curious....would the same apply to replacing DE grids following a conversion? Or would just chemically cleaning them be sufficient?

    Pool closing question.

I always take one of the antifreeze gallon containers and, after emptying the contents into the lines, I put it in the skimmer as expansion material. During colder winters sometimes the ice is caked up tight all around it.
