Not a spiced pumpkin latte, but fall has arrived here.

Without heat, pool dropped to 82 degrees. I just put the solar cover on. Movie nights in the spa are just around the corner.

    Trouble Raising Chlorine

I have a SWG, and when I notice it's "not keeping up" (usually in the spring, as temps rise and days get longer and I'm adjusting for changing conditions) I boost with liquid chlorine and test frequently. I haven't had to do an actual SLAM. (knock wood.) So far I have always caught it early...

Featured Water Chemistry Coming off the charts when pool level water elevates

You don't have an autodrain that no one told you about, do you? We are in west central Florida, and we don't have an autodrain. Without draining during or before a storm, our pool has definitely overflowed a few times.

Reading the recommendations on TFP makes me concerned pool care is too difficult.

Didn't know where to post this, but here's what you get when you combine trouble-free pool with a very talented and generous artistic neighbor.

Reading the recommendations on TFP makes me concerned pool care is too difficult.

I'm in charge of the pool. So it's screened, has SWG, and we have a robot cleaner. Those, plus TFP methods and support, have led to easy, inexpensive pool maintenance. Hubby does help when it's time to clean the filter or SWG.

    Spa or No spa?

We're in Florida, and... same. We love our gunnite spa and use it a lot. Our grandkids love it, too. Edit: Case in point.. pool temp 85 (brrrr!).. spa up to 92 in about half an hour. Ahhhh!

Neighbors revoked previously agreed upon access

I should take pictures of what the fully loaded concrete truck did to our driveway during our build. We're living with it for now, but if it had been a neighbor's driveway? We would have just bought a new driveway when it wasn't in the budget.

Reading the recommendations on TFP makes me concerned pool care is too difficult.

Our pump will run our spa waterfall, sunshelf fountain, and three pool return jets at the same time. You may want to keep those "auxiliary jets" turned on. They circulate the water and help move the water to the skimmer.

Reading the recommendations on TFP makes me concerned pool care is too difficult.

No, once you "know your pool" you can tell by looking that everything is good, and test a couple of times a week. That may take a while, and there will be times that you test daily. The return is where water is coming into the pool from the pump. Looks like some kind of jet. Plaster I've been...

Neighbors revoked previously agreed upon access

Another potential way to look at this since we don't know the neighbors or their situation... What if the original post had said something like this: "Our wonderful neighbors had given us permission to access their yard throughout our pool build, but they have just found out that their son, who...

Neighbors revoked previously agreed upon access

Fully understand your frustration! Vent here so you can get support and helpful ideas on the complications. Hopefully it will all be a distant memory when you're floating in your pool with an umbrella drink! (Of all my build headaches, the safety fence thing was one of the most irritating...

Neighbors revoked previously agreed upon access

While I'm not sure how not wanting their yard, fence, and irrigation system damaged makes them "grumpy busybodies that want to tell everyone else what to do but wouldn't lift a finger to help when asked," I agree with the overall sentiment. We've lived in our home for 36 years, and getting along...

    Spa or No spa?

We're in west central Florida and we use ours all winter long. Once it gets dark earlier, we watch movies. We had folks over yesterday and turned the spa on for a little while just to warm up a bit. We never set the spa to super hot, so we can sit out there as long as we want. It's also great as...

Neighbors revoked previously agreed upon access

Agree. 4 months could seem like a long time to go without a fence, and to be looking at pool construction mess, when it's not even your pool. Also agree that asking for access during the dig ONLY, and offering them compensation for the inconvenience might be worthwhile. Not all pool builders are...

Scale? I dunno what this is?

This may sound crazy, and others can chime in in case it's dangerous, but what about diving down there with a dropper of muriatic acid (or a diluted MA) and applying it directly to the white stuff? You could wear rubber gloves and keep a finger tip on the dropper until just before applying it...

I just hate for pool math to yell at me!

Ah, the downhill side of summer..

It's amazing how my chlorine demand has dropped in just a few weeks. I'm reducing SWG percentage and pump runtime, trying to re-find the sweet spot to keep FC near (but not above) the high end of the recommended range. I guess that's the TFP version of pumpkin spice latte season!

Understanding the method, for the win..

Last update... Cleaned SWG (including acid per instructions... Based on how much it fizzed, it was due), clean filter, retested salt which was still on the low side due to all the rain and drain this week. So I added another bag of salt. Also added cya. I'll test that tomorrow and see if I need...

Understanding the method, for the win..

So... added salt, added more acid. Chemistry was looking good yesterday. Crystal clear (TFP clear!) this morning. Still need to add CYA (delivery delays) and clean SWG and filter (rain and moral fiber delays), but all is well. :-)

New member- Finalizing PB for new pool & spa in Tampa, FL

We have the elevated spa, like the look, and it doesn't impede conversations between folks in the spa and folks on the sunshelf. The wall isn't above your head and shoulders when sitting in the spa. We had them do two levels for seating in the spa. We have tall and short people in the family. I...

Understanding the method, for the win..

Well, after recovering from a two week camping trip to Minnesota and back, I plan to add salt, clean the filter and clean the SWG. All that may not happen before mid-week ( did I mention vacation recovery? plus, people wanting me to get back to WORK!?!!) so in the meantime I'll make sure FC is...

Understanding the method, for the win..

We just got back from a two week vacation, and I started getting error messages from the SWG on day 2. Based on what I've learned here, I didn't panic and enjoyed the vacation, knowing that TFP had taught me what I needed to know to fix things when we got back. Returned to dull, but not cloudy...
