    DE Filter Help/Guidance

If you don't have a multiport valve, consider installing one next season. That will give you the options of Recirculate, Backwash, Rinse, Waste, Filter, and Closed. I usually do my first 2 days of opening SLAM on recirc so none of the Crud goes near my filter, then I shut the pump down for...

    Filter issues? Please help

Sounds to me like someone used flocculant or other gummy nonsense then vacuumed it into the filter. That's probably what gummed up your sand.

DE Stainless Steel Filter clamps leaking

You don't turn off pump... just open valve until only water comes out, then close it. Take note of pressure now. When it rises 25% from this point, time to backwash and replace 80% of DE.

Temperature reading on Raypak 406a heater

This is probably because they use a simple thermistor instead of coughing up the $3 per unit for a proper temperature sensor to simplify the design and cut costs. Personally, I would gladly pay an extra $20 for a unit that reads temperature accurately, or that allowed me to calibrate the sensor...

    Filter issues? Please help

Is it possible that your filter wasn't drained properly when the pool was closed and it was filled with stagnant water? It sure looks like that is what happened.

    I need DE help!

At 8 pints to a gallon and $5 per gallon that comes to 62.5 cents a day. $1.25 worst case scenario. That would be at most 4 oz of pure Sodium Hypochlorite in 9000 gallons, or 0.00034722% Thats a proverbial drop in the bucket. A good alternative is a SWCG.

    In ground cover bolts stuck

I respectfully disagree. Just saying what has worked flawlessly for me. How can it attract crud when they are screwed all the way down? If they attract crud during the winter, who cares if you are going to remove, clean and regrease, and lower next time you open? YMMV.

    In ground cover bolts stuck

Screw them all the way out, take a wire brush, clean the threads on the bolts and the holes with solvent, replace any that are stripped, grease them thoroughly and then they will go down and not stick. Haven't had a problem since I made this part of my opening routine. A tub of general-purpose...

Temperature reading on Raypak 406a heater

From the RayPak Manual: Before entering the spa or hot tub, users should check the water temperature with an accurate thermometer; spa or hot tub thermostats may err in regulating water temperatures by as much as 4°F (2.2°C). NOTE: The LCD temperature display may not agree with the temperature...

Temperature reading on Raypak 406a heater

I am no expert but I highly doubt that a couple of degrees would add much stress to the heater in the ~100F range. It might just make it cycle slightly more often or longer than otherwise. Does your heater short-cycle often at that temperature? If the high and low limit are close together, it...

    DE filter requiring constant backwashing

@bjohannes Do you know what your baseline clean filter pressure is? This is what your system should return to after you backwash and replace DE. I have a single speed 1.25 HP pump and a 36 s.f. DE filter, and my baseline pressure is 18psi. I suggest checking in 10-15 minutes. If your pressure...

  25. BassPlayingDude

    DE filter requiring constant backwashing

Be aware that there are two different amounts of DE, one if the filter is totally empty after you have deep cleaned it, and the other is after backwashing. The after-backwash amount is about 75% of what you would use if the filter was totally empty of DE after a deep clean.
