Rain's Effect on Pool Chemicals and Balance

Enjoy the rain while it lasts! We have had at least 1 hard rain every day for the last 3 weeks. My yard is a swamp! Finally supposed to dry out next week.

OH BOY . I got troubles.

You are welcome, however I am currently female ( and plan to remain so), lol! The speed stir is a little device that swirls the test solution for you while you test your water. Very handy things to have...

OH BOY . I got troubles.

Let's pause a minute. 72 ounces of calcium chloride dihydrate should have only increased your CH by 51ppm. Even if you added the entire 7 lb container at once that would only raise CH by 75ppm. Did you double check your CH test results? Do you use a speed stir to mix the water while testing...

I'm a couple of miles from Johnson Space Center, which is across from Clear Lake, a brakish, saltwater lake that leads into Galveston Bay. We are far enough away that you don't smell salty air, but anything metal left outside is going to rust.

How to use a bucket filter method (with no pool ladder) for getting iron out?

When you have to top off water it may turn on you depending on how much iron is in the water. Are you able to buy sequestrant where you are? If you add sequestrant it will keep the iron in suspension so it doesn't react to the chlorine. If you use sequestrant you will need to replenish it...

    Confusing liner size

Hi, welcome to TFP! The liner should stretch if it installed on a hot day and has had a little time to warm in the sun before it is filled. If you are having the pool professionally installed by an experienced crew ask their opinion. It may relive some of your concerns.

Perhaps any of our members that live in Galveston or any other beach town near the sea can tell us how their patio furniture and pool equipment hold up in the constant exposure to salty sea air?

So after a successful SLAM, my water is blue and almost completely clear but algae is stuck to sides

Kim, he's still slamming. Too soon to raise CYA. How often are you adding chlorine during your slam? The logs look like its about once a day. If you don't have someone who can test and dose for you can they add a jug of chlorine daily? That will keep you from loosing ground until you get back.

Help!! Cut hole too big for my wide mouth skimmer in my intex pool!! Freaking out!! $4000

I would do something similar to what Ant did. I would put a strip of patch so that at least an inch of pool liner and patch overlap on both sides of the opening on all four sides. You can split the butterfly gasket into two halves and tape it in place on the pool on both sides of the opening...

Help!! Cut hole too big for my wide mouth skimmer in my intex pool!! Freaking out!! $4000

Go to a pool store and get a large vinyl patch kit. Post a photo of the hole and we can give suggestions how to place the patch.

    Still having PH issues..

It won't make a difference for pool chemistry if you run the pump day or night. If you are on one of those electricity plans where evenings are free it may be less expensive to run the pump at night. As far as pH rise, rain contributes, new plaster contributes, SWG contributes, churning water...

Help!! Cut hole too big for my wide mouth skimmer in my intex pool!! Freaking out!! $4000

You can try patching the pool with vinyl pool patch. Did you cut the opening without the skimmer in place?

Vacuum for 5,000 gallon above ground

I had a Zodiac Ranger that worked like the cleaner linked in your post. It was great for regular debris except for acorns and large accumulations of leaves. I had a lot of organic debris such as leaves and crepe myrtle blossoms constantly falling in my pool. It could handle those just fine...

Intex AGP 32x16 - level within an inch, but broken pavers. Is it safe?

This is my main concern, where the legs are unsupported by paver there is the potential for the legs of the pool to bend around the edge of the paver. Once that happens the leg is ruined and must be replaced. You can try and add a paver to support the full width of the leg so they don't bend...

How to use a bucket filter method (with no pool ladder) for getting iron out?

Since you have iron in your source water, you want to be careful about adding too much stabilized chlorine. If the stabilizer level gets too high it will be difficult to keep the pool clear and you will have to drain the pool and start over with fresh water, meaning you would have to filter out...

If you look through the threads in Under Construction many of them name their location. Look for Houston area builds, read their threads and contact the members by PM to ask questions about their builder if want more information. You may want to go deep into that forum to find builds that are...

    Still having PH issues..

I would try lowering the TA to 60 first and see how that works for you. Another factor that may help is that next week is supposed to give us a break from the near daily torrential rain storms we've had lately. I don't know what part of town your in but where I am we've had at least one 30...

Vacuum for 5,000 gallon above ground

Do you have a traditional hard wall AGP or do you have the soft sided pool held up by a metal frame? If you have a traditional AGP you can use the cleaner linked in your post. Aquabots are great, but unfortunately the Pool Rover Jr which is their model for AGPs is pretty much sold out...

Pool floor has started to crack, what do I do now?

Plaster de-lamination, if I understood correctly, is a result of poor preparation, poor application and/or poor plaster quality. I doubt there was anything you could do differently.

Is it worth trying to fix?

It looks like they did not repair the rust, just covered it up with some paint. You have a lot of rust, and in the area where the skimmer is located the wall is starting to crease at the bottom. I can guaranty the rust on the inside of the wall is more extensive than what you see outside...

Desperation is set in - need help

You can use the vacuum to draw water from the bottom of the pool to help improve circulation. A couple of things to keep in mind, one a sand filter is going to take longer to filter out dead algae and other organic debris, and two, you have a relatively small sand filter for the size of your...

    Does this look right??...HELP!

Its certainly not your fault! The builder should not be charging you to fix their mistakes. If he had subcontractors who did not do the job properly then he should go after them to fix it at their expense. He as the builder of record is responsible for the quality and integrity of all work...

    Does this look right??...HELP!

Hi, welcome to TFP! I'm sorry but your builder is full of it. Of course you are going to notice it later! Chipped coping doesn't just "blend in" when a pool is finished. It would be one thing if this was supposed to be natural stone with irregular edges, but its not. It looks like damaged...

Is it okay to put Cal hypo pucks in one floater and trichlor tablets in a different floater??

Floaters need to move to distribute chlorine properly. If you anchor it you will still get bleach out on the floor of the liner as the chlorine will accumulate in that one spot. Why are you wanting to use both types of tablets at one time?
