    First Concept

Well we ultimately decided to pull the plug on this project. We decided that the cost is not worth it to us for the short season we have here. We also may be pulling the plug on the AGP as well.

    First Concept

I got some numbers back last night. So far he’s pretty high. 7-9k for the water feature, 5.5k for the fire pit. I am at $52k with no features and this is a steel wall pool concrete bottom. Meeting with them today to discuss but so far I’m not feeling it.

    First Concept

Yeah I am looking to go smaller. Kid is off to college in another year. The on in the concept is 14x28 but I'd really like to be more like 12x24. definitely want some in pool seating. They also have an 8' deck all the way around which is overkill in my situation. Probably would not do the...

This is the first concept that the PB has given to us. I still think its a bit bigger than I want.

PB experience so far... Night and Day

I think what I am after is referred to as a "Spool". I am very spatially aware. There may have been onetime last year when there were actually 4 people in the pool (milling about and talking). While i do have plenty of space in the yard to support a large pool I don't want to sacrifice that...

PB experience so far... Night and Day

For the record and, I am sure that there are others out there, I wish I had a smaller pool. Going smaller was never about the cost of installing it. The cost of consumables may very well be negligible. My current 24' AGP hits a high temp of 77 degrees after a solid week of 90 plus temps...

PB experience so far... Night and Day

I like the good guy but he really seems to want to steer me towards a 16x32 pool but en though that seems to be a common size I really don' want one that big. Even the no good guy was trying to do that as well stating that you really don't save much. but that really depends on what lens you are...

    Pool Automation Question

So as we think through a new pool one of the things that interests me is some automation. For the new build we will definitely be going with a SWCG. The PB we will likely go with is a Jandy dealer. I would like options to automate pH, salt cell, pool light, landscape lights, temp water feature...

    Relocating Equipment?

I also didn't see any mention of how far the move is. The additional pipe runs and fittings, especially when changes in direction are made, will add additional head pressure to the system. It could require a different pump.

PB experience so far... Night and Day

Oh yeah and one more thing on the second guy... He had no interest in designing anything and also told me that I would be the one picking up permits. What? Really, why would I hire you to run crews? This is the classic "contractor" that does nothing.

PB experience so far... Night and Day

So we met two pool builders over the weekend. They were completely different experiences. The first one (our preferred choice) was very professional. He started by asking us what we wanted in a pool and back yard. How would we use it etc, a very holistic approach. We discussed drainage and...

    Meeting the first PB tonight...

Ok, two more PB's scheduled for this weekend. I hope to gather enough info between the two to see if there is feasibility to proceed forward. One does fiberglass as well as vinyl.

    Meeting the first PB tonight...

Well that was a disappointment... The PB was a no show. No phone call or text. We know who won’t be doing this job.

    Meeting the first PB tonight...

@mknauss I do not know if anyone sells 12.5% near hear. I am sure I will get a price on a SWG as well as automation.

    Meeting the first PB tonight...

@kimkats good point maybe 4'-6" would be better.

    Meeting the first PB tonight...

@ajw22 that heater is a 45k btu heater. I was just thinking that a 100k gas unit would be overkill.

    Meeting the first PB tonight...

We are finally going to meet with the first of a few PB's tonight. We started with an AGP and knew if we liked owning a pool we would expand our options in the future. During life with the AGP we discovered what we liked and what we didn't like. Based on our opinions here is our dislike list...

    Potential pool build...have questions.

Hey all, been a while since I last posted. We currently have an AGP that we installed 4 or so years ago. It was more or less an experiment to test the waters of pool ownership. My wife and I attended the home and garden show last weekend in Cleveland and spoke with a PB that was there. He sells...

    Got a small leak...

Hopefully it will last the rest of the season. I have an appointment being set up with a local radiant pool installer to come out and give us an estimate on one of their partial inground free form pools.

Taking it to the next level looking for advice

Yeah it really wasn’t about using the existing pool or equipment. More of a if we want to make any changes nows the time to do it. Slathered up a patch this morning but don’t have much confidence in the longevity of it. Might buy us the remainder of the season but that’s about it. I...

Taking it to the next level looking for advice

Greetings all, we currently have an AGP for the past 5 seasons. At the moment I am dealing with a leak in the liner. Found about a 1/2” year in the bottom center. Fixing this today but the location has me really considering just replacing the liner. A liner replacement would be about a grand...

    Got a small leak...

My son found the hole last night. It is actually in the center of the floor. There was sand on the floor. Picking up a patch kit this morning and then deciding what we want to do long term. With the location of the hole I think the patch will not last. Thinking of going with a fiberglass or...

    Got a small leak...

Measured loss since 9:30am yesterday til 10am today was 1/2” or ~150ish gallons. In 5 seasons I have only had to add water two times. Usually enough rain to keep it topped up. Enquiring around for replacement liners and installers has been frustrating and to the tune of ~$900. Really...

Looks like about a 1/2” lost since Sunday.

    Got a small leak...

Hey fellow TFPers, I’ve got a small problem. I my 4 year old pool seems to have sprung a leak. It is a very slow leak since I haven’t detected any significant loss. I know there is a leak though due to some standing water in the yard. Recently we had a stretch of heat on the mid 90’s with no...

    Suspecting a leak

yeah you guys get a little more sun than I do. We should get more this year since I had a few trees removed. This liner is only 3 seasons old but as much water as I have in the yard I am suspicious.

    Suspecting a leak

Thanks Tex. I just went Macgyver with it. I made a water level indicator from an LED, a resistor, a c cell battery, float switch and some tape. The cover is still on the pool so not really easy to get in there and do any marking of sorts. If the water level drops 1/8" the LED will light and I...

    Suspecting a leak

Hey TFP'ers, so spring is here and I have a saturated lawn with standing water. Yes we have had rain but I have never had standing water for more that a couple of days. The pool level seems to be lower than when I winterized it last fall. Any ideas on how to test this theory? Too early to open...
