Thanks! That seems plausible since the issue occurred without prior warning.

Hayward pump and or motor seized up

Loud humming noise when turned on. Motor and pump is not turning. Just happened yesterday afternoon with no warning. Was working fine in the morning and not making any abnormal noises. It is a Hayward SP3210X15. I see them for sale online as a motor/pump assembly. Is best option to replace both...

New to TFP - water balance issues

OCLT results - FC was at 7 last night and at 6 this morning. I am going to skip the SLAM. I have some 1 lb. bags of 68% Calcium Hypochlorite. Any issues with using these to maintain FC and raise CH? Or should I stick to liquid chlorine and use calcium chloride to raise CH?

Yes, the water looks great! After the fill we had a week where the weather was nice and water was 78-80 degrees and was able to enjoy the pool. Too cold now, looking forward to heater install!

The limestone rocks have numerous divots/holes that collect and hold water. There are large trees around my property that drop leaves/blooms/pollen that collect in the holes and allow algae to form above the water line which then is allowed to deposit into the pool. The limestone is actually...

I will be removing the chlorinator when I do the heater install. I think a SWG is definitely in my future, most likely early Spring 2021. I do have concerns about corrosion though as I have a limestone deck. I recall a SWG pool my father in law had that was always eating at the limestone...

Filter has been thoroughly cleaned and have been adding CYA. Just tested for CYA which is now at 35. Dosed pool with chlorine to get FC around 6. Will test for FC at sunset and perform OCLT. There was definitely evidence of green algae on the pool walls before the drain/fill but none in and...

There are some busy bodies on my street always watching out. They called City of Austin on the guy who owned house before for me for draining into storm drain. He also did a free fill from the fire hydrant out front which probably pushed them over the edge. All of it in broad daylight.

Signature updated. I do have some algae but when pool was empty I used tank spryer to spray down walls and floor with diluted chlorine and brushed. Pool is almost full now and do not see any visible algae growth in pool any longer. Along the length of one side there is a limestone waterfall...

I could not achieve a balance of water in/out with the pump I am using and siphoning was super slow (did not want plaster exposed that long). So I opted for the drain/refill method. Drained about 80%-90% of the water out and the refill is in process. All good so far. Once refill is complete...

As I understand it backwashing of filter is fine as long as effluent is contained within your lot/yard and does not runoff into bordering lots or storm sewers.

Dirk, thanks for the input. It is an older pool, I estimate 20+ years old. It was re-plastered about 3 years ago. I am going to opt for the lower risk exchange method with pump placed in deep end and fill from shallow end. Checked fill water temp - 74. Pool is currently 72. I will calculate the...

No I am not clear on the risks and options. This is my first go at this. Instructions and steps would be appreciated also. Not sure if I should do the exchange method or drain out what I estimate to be 70%-80% of water and refill. We do not have high ground water here if that is one of the...

Performed the diluted CYA test. Results are 170ppm. Looks like I need to drain out at least 70% of water or around 13,000 gallons to get CYA down to 50ppm. The submersible pump I am using is rated at 1600 gallons per hour. So let pump run for about 8 hours?

Just got off the phone with City of Austin. $175 for the permit and no option to have it waived. They want their cake and eat it too. If they catch you dumping into sewer system without permit or into storm drain (not allowed unless you dechlorinate and no algae) it is a $2,000 fine. Good tip on...

Looks like water rates are much higher here in Austin. Based on most recent bill I figure that it will cost $12.75 per 1,000 gallons accounting for usage, waste water services and fees. At less than a couple hundred dollars that may be the way to go.

Hi Dirk, thanks for the response. Cl2 is the abbreviation I saw somewhere being used for combined chlorine. I think I have seen it abbreviated as CC also. Let me know what is correct in discussing on the forum.
