    No pressure after using vacuum

It prevents debris from getting stuck in the suction pipe or the pump impeller. So there could be two areas were the debris got stuck. Either in the pump impeller or the suction pipe. Does the pump basket have a lot of air in it? If so, it is likely the suction pipe. If not, then it is probably...

Featured Why is calculating run-time for my new VS motor so difficult?

Perhaps but I suspect it is far from a hard start like a 1 or 2 speed pump.

Featured Why is calculating run-time for my new VS motor so difficult?

It isn't just about cost, 230 watts * 24 hrs * 365 days ~ 1 Ton of CO2/yr Also, VS pumps do not suffer from on/off fatigue as they ramp speeds much slower than an induction motor so there is less stress on the mechanical parts.

    No pressure after using vacuum

Did you clean out the pump basket after vacuuming? You should be using a vacuum plate in the skimmer.

Newbie wanting to a pump that can handle pushing water up high and over distance

Welcome to the forum! Most any pump should be able to do that. About the only exception is an Intex pump. They are much weaker pumps. What kind of pump do you have?

$0.15/kwh in CA? I'm not sure about the OP but I pay more than twice that.

Bubbles in return - is this a problem?

It depends on the plumbing setup and the head curve of the pump. Have you measured flow rate in any way or felt the panels? Warm panels usually indicates lower than optimal flow rate. You want at least 0.1 GPM/sq-ft of panels.

Bubbles in return - is this a problem?

For 15 feet, your filter pressure probably needs to be above 8 PSI to keep the VRV closed. What is the filter pressure now?

Featured Why is calculating run-time for my new VS motor so difficult?

I do not run 24 hrs per day. I have very high electrical costs so 24 hr is a big bump in costs. In the summer, I run at about 1500 RPM, I have two skimmers which requires more flow rate, and for about 9 hrs per day, mainly for solar gain. In the winter, I run only two hours per day at the same...

Bubbles in return - is this a problem?

#1 would not cause bubbles out of the returns. However, it does cause bubbles to accumulate in the pump basket. #2 is the most likely cause of your problem. Higher speeds/pressure is necessary to keep the VRV closed. How high is the VRV in relation to the pump?

Featured Why is calculating run-time for my new VS motor so difficult?

Filtering does nothing for sanitation. Only chlorine is necessary for sanitation. Filtering is merely an aesthetic task, it just makes the pool look better. But one thing to keep in mind is that most debris in a pool either sinks or floats. Any very tiny particles that are suspended in the pool...

Featured Why is calculating run-time for my new VS motor so difficult?

You still seem to be focused on turnovers. The number of gallons pumped in a 24 hour period is totally irrelevant. What is it you are really trying to accomplish with all this?

plumbing install for my Stenner pump

I have a different perspective on 1/2" vs 1/4". The problem with 1/2" is that the curvature of the pipe may not allow for a good seal (i.e. exposed thread). Also, should someone hit the connection, would you rather the inserted fitting break or the pipe/thread break? I think 1/4" is actually a...

plumbing install for my Stenner pump

Not sure what you mean by double. Through a fitting and pipe at glue joint? No, I would not do that as it could compromise the glue joint. Pipe is a little less brittle than fittings so I tend to lean that way.

    Losing 3ppm per day?

Losing 3 out of 5, is 60% UV extinction which is actually quite good for a CYA of 40. As you increase CYA, you FC UV loss will drop.

plumbing install for my Stenner pump

I would just drill and tap for 1/4". You are making it much harder than it needs to be. Downstream, closer to the returns is best because pressure is at it's lowest. Is this for acid or chlorine?

    Saltwater Solar Blanket Deterioration

Not in terms of life. They were both the same, about two seasons. However, my latest cover is going on 4 years but there is a caveat. The first year I used it quite a bit but haven't really used it much since. Keeping it out of the pool extends the life significantly. I think UV exposure is...

Best solution to fix air leak at pump fitting

Yes, scrape out the old putty as much as you can. First try the pool lube and see if it works and lasts. If not, move on to the plumber's putty. You can soften the plumbers putty with a little water. But for both, apply while the pump is running. You will know right away if the gap is too big as...

Best solution to fix air leak at pump fitting

Some alternatives to cutting out the plumbing: Suction side leaks are usually easier to fix than pressure side since with the pump running, the leak will draw in air or anything else you might put on it. If it is a very tiny leak, sometimes pool lube is enough to get sucked into the gap and...
