    Dirty Pool! HELP!

SLAMming takes consistency and a whole lot of POP (pool owner patience). depending upon how consistently you are measuring FC, has everything to do with how well the SLAM will go. if you really do well for a week, and then lapse for a couple of days, you might as well have thrown all of your...

    2.5 days into SLAM

CYA isn't quite responding as anticipated though, so adding a bit more. be slow in adding your CYA, its hard to go backward. and keeping it low is conducive to an easier SLAM, having to meet lower chlorine numbers. if you've had rain and not a real sunny day to take a measurement, wait until...

    2.5 days into SLAM

how are you determining what your SLAM level of chlorine is? don't want you to get frustrated when you think you are 2.5 days into a SLAM, when actually you are just pouring bottles of bleach into a body of water. it looks good! if you get your CYA/chlorine ratio nailed...this shouldn't take...

Rusty well water and TFP first timer.

have you tested your well water? eventually you will need make up water to replenish your pool, so this will be an ongoing problem for as long as you live there. I deal with manganese which is similar to iron, I put a softener on my well and it dropped my Mn content to .1ppm. when I filled, the...

^^^^^ invaluable info...thanks. I filled the pool from the hose bibs on the house, so it was softened pre entering the pool. ICR what our manganese content was pre softener....IIRC it is .6 or 6 ppm. .6 sounds more like it, I would have to look at the well test before. and surprisingly, we do...

ok, will do... I read your post last night late. this morning the pool has cleared considerably, I left pump on last night with the skimmer full of the poly micron (?) don't know what they really call it...but it had caught a lot of brown manganese. I'm wondering when I add chlorine again today...

    New build in South Louisiana...

you were right Kim, CYA showed up ASAP...after reading for 2 yrs about the difficulty on reading the CYA test, I thought it was pretty straight forward. the dot became obscure between 25-30. anyhow, so I added a gal of bleach (8%) and disaster struck...the water turned brownish green, which I...
