Rough surface possible stain after opening

I'm not sure if it's rough to my hand, the water is still too cold for me to try it. I've only been going over it with a brush and it feels rough. I get a lot more resistance in those areas when the brush hits them. I have read that on the stains and searched the forums some. Once it warms up...

Rough surface possible stain after opening

Hello, See below pic for rough what I'm curious about. Not sure how to get rid of the photobucket label in the middle, but you can kind of see what I'm asking about above and below it, just behind the cleaner and right of the cleaner hose. I've been open for about 2 weeks now and the water...

    Open date on East Coast?

I opened a couple weeks ago because I like looking at the pool rather than the cover. Water temp was 52, but I don't plan on swimming until the days get in the 80's. I could heat it now to whatever I wanted, but don't want to spend that $$ with nights that are still cold. As for your...

Heating pool in NC and advice about pollen

I was going to say run the heat pump 24/7 to get the heat up, but I have gas and not a heat pump so Chuck would know more about that and it sounds right. The fact that he's in CT and probably has colder nights may make a difference so you may want to experiment with how many degrees you gain...

Very high pressure and hazy water - anyone know why?

I'm not sure why I didn't see this yesterday afternoon. Regardless, I didn't. But, when I took the cover off, there was very thick globs of DE covering that little microphone looking thing in the filter. I don't know what it is for exactly, but I never saw that before. All the DE looked very...

Very high pressure and hazy water - anyone know why?

Hello everyone, I really appreciate having a place to go to ask questions. I am going to try to be brief, but there's a bit of a back story that may or may not be relevant and I want to share that info just in case. We are in Maryland where we had some very heavy rain 3 weeks ago. My pool...

Help - first time doing this ourselves

If you don't want to backwash and don't mind taking the filter apart, you can take it apart and take the filter grid out and hose it off in the driveway or yard. I do this at the end of every year anyway and use hair nets over the skimmer baskets all year and don't have to backwash all year...

Help - first time doing this ourselves

If your DE filter is like mine with the push/pull, pulling it up backwashes and cleans out the filter, there is no way to bypass the filter and go to waste. I would suggest just vacumming to the filter and then backwashing it afterwards. Hopefully the pressure won't go up too high while you're...

Help - first time doing this ourselves

Some pictures of your plumbing and skimmer things with arrows would help. There are lots of knowledgeable people here that can chime in and get you going. I had trouble with my polaris when I first turned it on because I had a valve turned wrong and water was being forced back toward the...

    Opening...What do I do first?

When you do the CYA, make sure to put it in a sock and let it dissolve in front of a return. The first time I tried it I dumped it in the skimmer like the instructions said with no success. I then read up more on here and found the sock method which works great.

Help - first time doing this ourselves

I wouldn't worry about the antifreeze, it will go into the 17K gallons and you'll never notice it.

New owner builder in Sacramento Ca

Nice job with the pavers. I was going to do mine myself until the retaining wall I built in the below pics herniated a disc in my back and I had to sub it out. In hindsight I had bit off way more than I could chew with the pavers. The big one you see scattered in there is 80 lbs and was very...

    dirt ring in skimmer

Hello, I have a dirt ring in my skimmer and was wondering if a special cleaner is needed, or is something like simple green ok to try? I just don't want to screw up any chemistry. I kind of doubt it with the small amount of cleaner needed compared to the entire pool. But wanted to run it by...

New Pool Build - Little Elm TX

I've had the Polaris 280 for the 3 years we've had our pool and haven't had any issues with it. I've never had a robot, but they seem to be the preferred cleaner method on here. If my pump or Polaris died, I'd definitely look at robots for a replacement. As Jim R. mentions I think the technology...

    Pool is open in VA!!!

I opened in mid March just to have something nicer to look at than the cover and got surprised by a snowstorm. Luckily it didn't get too cold for too long and just kept the water running. Had the heater going this weekend to swim, but with this week being cold turned it off for now.

Pool, Patio, Fire-pit Build - So. California

Big fan of the hair nets. I used them full time this year and between them and the Polaris cleaner, I didn't have to backwash the filter all season. Our builder gave us that same door alarm and said to just take the battery out after the inspection if you don't want to use it. He said if you...

Should I buy my heater from the pool store or online?

I was going to order my heater (Raypak) online and install it last year, but since I travel a lot I decided to go with a local company so the wife would have someone to contact if there were any issues. I contacted the local company about installing a heater that I purchased online, but they...

    Tips on trimming solar blanket??

That's an awesome deal on the reel and cover. I paid full price earlier in the year but am very happy with the reel. I agree with pooldv, the cover should be in the pool to avoid the wind catching it. You may just need longer straps to reach from the roller to the pool when it's in the cover. Be...

    DE getting into pool

Hello, I have a Jandy DE filter similar to this one I found in a thread about cleaning a DE filter The O-ring at the top of the tube is stretched out on mine and doesn't give a good seal. I have a new one on order, but haven't received it yet. Do you think a bad seal on this could cause DE...

    Is opening myself worth it?

My pool has the same setup with the main drain, in fact the plumbing looks almost exactly the same to mine. My guess is A/S had the same subs do both of ours as I'm in Baltimore too.

DIY Safety Cover Installation with pavers

I think the bubble wrap type you mention is a solar cover for use when the pool is open, this is a winter cover. I'd heard that too, but I have some larger pavers and if I did that the holes wouldn't be anywhere near in a straight line, which is why I went with the core drill.

DIY Safety Cover Installation with pavers

Hi All, just finished installing my safety cover and thought I'd post it up being that it's that time of the year. I haven't closed yet, but I wanted to have the cover ready to go for when I do. The only pool store I could get to give me a quote was the builder and they came back with $4700, I...

Help with DIY Installation of Safety Cover

I did use water, only a hose as the water for the inside of the core drill wasn't working, and it still took 10 hours to drill all the holes. For each hole I had to take the bit off and punch out the stuff inside of it with some rebar so it would keep drilling. On some of the holes after it got...

Help with DIY Installation of Safety Cover

I went to install my safety cover last weekend and set up the ropes as described in the loop loc directions. It wasn't that big of a deal, got some cheap clothes line rope from HD and used tent stakes and heavy planters to hold it up. Not sure how much the ropes will help, but I think they may...

Bought a house, came with a pool and a cat.

I'm a newbie too this year and added the CYA stabilizer the same way you did because that's what the container said to do. The CYA didn't move. I reread on here and some pointed out to put it in a sock, tie the sock to a broom handle or something hanging a couple feet down and let it hang in...

    Safety Cover Installation

Thanks everyone. SSgumby, do you have a picture of the cover when it's on and how the cable is utilized? I have a pretty good idea what you're talking about, just trying to visualize it. I've gotten two quotes so far and one said they'd go up and over it, but the other said they'd go in front...

    Safety Cover Installation

Thanks everyone. Does anyone have suggestions or examples of how their safety cover has dealt with a raised wall like in the photo? I'd rather not drill into the tile with wall anchors if not necessary. The entire width of the pool is 16' and there is 45" on either side of the first portion of...
