How do you figure needed depth for a grotto that people will jump off of ??

Thanks guys.... I'm thinking 9 feet of depth would probably be okay, but surely 9.5 feet deep would be plenty. Don't ya think ? A rock with no spring (unlike a diving board) and 4 ft high, i would think someone could dive into 9.5 feet and not worry about hitting the bottom ???

How do you figure needed depth for a grotto that people will jump off of ??

I'm suppose to finalize my pool drawing this week and dig hopefully next week. I am putting in a mini cave grotto and want people to be able to jump from the top of it if they want. I'm sure lots of kids will and some adults (including myself). I'm going to tell people no diving, but want to...

Getting ready to start build, but thinking about changing depth in deep end ???

The original plan was for a diving board but i told my builder my wife and I would rather have a grotto with cave instead. I want our children, other kids and possibly adults to be able to jump off of it like this video link will show you. My question is, how deep should i have the deep end...

After a lot of thinking on it, i finally signed a contract today with a PB.

This is going to be a huge investment, but the more I thought on it, i feel like this is something my children will enjoy growing up, and hopefully we'll continue to enjoy it on into retirement age with my wife and future grandchildren. There are other options i have to add or replace certain...

Stamped concrete vs Pavers vs ???

I'm still in the process of getting quotes from builders to build a pool, but playing with the idea of doing stamped concrete. I've already had two builders tell me it's worth it to just by-pass doing stamped concrete and pay the extra money for pavers instead. I may end up having to just...

    Pool with Kids

I've lived in one house that was inside a neighborhood where the houses were close together. Even though i did not mind it all that much since everyone in the neighborhood at the time were good people, but after that move, i'll never live in a close house neighborhood again. I enjoy being able...

Thoughts on this quote i just got..... reasonable or high ??

I thought about trying to be the GC myself, but i'd rather have someone else to blame and hold responsible for fixing anything that was not done correctly. If i had experience in building things, I'd give it a go, but i have little to no knowledge when it comes to building structures with the...

Thoughts on this quote i just got..... reasonable or high ??

Why would an insurance company require someone to fence in 100 acres for a swimming pool in their backyard? LOL All building codes for swimming pools in my area do require a small fence around the pool itself, but nothing more.

Thoughts on this quote i just got..... reasonable or high ??

I did find another local pool builder that is going to come out next week and give me a quote, but he only does vinyl liner pools, and i'm just really uneasy about a liner pool for the reasons i listed above.

Thoughts on this quote i just got..... reasonable or high ??

Thanks guys..... I'm in Polkville, NC. I do commercial poultry farming for my business and live on the same property as my chicken houses. I have a couple hundred acres of forestry right behind my house and we own 3 dogs. Lots of wild life go straight through our backyard, plus all the trees...

Thoughts on this quote i just got..... reasonable or high ??

They use Hayward equipment. Yes, i will have to do fencing and I've already figured out i will want to add a good bit more concrete into this. If i decide to run gas, it won't be that much more since i already have it hooked up to my house, plus i give them thousands and thousands of dollars...

Thoughts on this quote i just got..... reasonable or high ??

No, but the problem is, he is the only person i have found in my area that will do a concrete pool. Everyone else that i've found so far only does vinyl liner pools, and i'm just really unsure about putting in a liner pool (even though it would be a lot cheaper up front).

Anyone regret building a vinyl liner pool vs concrete or fiberglass?

I was all over these forums last year, gathering information, and reading as much as i could on pool builds. The pros and cons of concrete vs vinyl pools. I even talked with a couple PB's and got some quotes last summer. Just could not pull the trigger yet, because the shape and design i...

New Build w Retaining Wall- NC -decking complete (?)

bouncing off a trampoline into a pool, i'd want a lot deeper than 8 feet. A trampoline sounds fun, (thought about that myself when i decide to build a pool), but i'd want like a 10 foot deep end. The spring coming off a trampoline + the height of it already above the pool itself would make for...

    EcoFinish Aqua Bright Blue Mist

I would like to know how long the original AquaBright finish lasted on your pool before having to re-do it? I've been talking to PB's in my area (i'm in a small town) and nobody has even heard of AquaBright. I've read a little bit about it online and it sounds like good stuff. Sorry, your...

Help me decide between two bids

Question.... I'm actually getting quotes myself for a 20x40 and 18x40 freeform pools. I want a diving area, and my PB quoted me for only 8' deep. He said i could go deeper if i wanted, but would do two things.... One add to the cost, and two it would make my slope longer which would cut into...

Letting people use your personal pool when you are not home?

I'd like to make a recommendation for you, that might help your battle with this. Have your fiance come on here and read all the comments from pool owners that don't even know you or him personally. The best/honest advice to get on subjects are from people that don't know anything about you...

Letting people use your personal pool when you are not home?

Excuse my french, but F that! I'm in the stages of getting quotes to install a pool in my backyard, but my grandparents had a pool when i was growing up, AND i grew up on the lake, so we had that in my backyard instead of a pool. My parents never let anyone come over to swim if we weren't home...

Talking with PB about freeform designs and i have a question

How in the world did you go from 18x36 to 20x40 for only $500!?? ? My quote for a 20x40 rectangle liner is right at $42k and 20x40 freeform concrete quote is $64K. He did quote me an 18x36 freeform concrete for $57K. I was amazed at the price jumps. My PB said i'd get 700 sq ft out of a...

Talking with PB about freeform designs and i have a question

If i went with a liner pool, i could do a 20 x 50, or that Lagoon pool i posted a picture of, but concrete is another story. The liner pool just really scares me. I know there are tons of people that have them, i just don't feel comfortable dumping large sums of money into a liner pool. ?

Talking with PB about freeform designs and i have a question

Okay, sorry guys, i went back and looked at the table and my piece of paper where i did my drawing and figuring. That 12' minimum before your slope starts is for a 9' deep end pool. I guess i'll have to research a little more or wait on my PB to get back up with me so i can figure how much is...

Talking with PB about freeform designs and i have a question

That makes me feel better about the dogs, if for some reason i can't budget what i want in a concrete pool and have to go with a liner to get exactly what i want. Can you explain to me how the deep end can change between pool designs? I thought there were minimal requirements all PB's...
