Heater Replacement for 18k gallon pool

Wow, looks like Los Angeles is much better than San Diego, we don't have any current rebates for pool heaters. Leslie's had a cyber Monday sale, I put a heater in my cart last night, but didn't pull the trigger, this morning it was $500 more:cautious:(n).

Heater Replacement for 18k gallon pool

The heat exchanger on my Raypak 400k heater finally gave up the ghost. I'm in San Diego. Suggestions and estimated cost for replacement? I did a brief search, it looks like Raypak is still a good heater. . .

ISO: Automation Installer in So Cal Carlsbad

The equipment pad is on the left side of the second pic, and the valves are under the stairs where the red boxing dummy is located. To hardwire the valves, I'd have to cross a cement walkway somehow, or build an arch across the equipment pad. . .

ISO: Automation Installer in So Cal Carlsbad

Haha. I will shoot some pics tomorrow, but valves are near Jacuzzi, and breaker panel, heater, filter etc are on a pad around the corner of house away from pool.

ISO: Automation Installer in So Cal Carlsbad

OK, thanks Jim, so would the valve actuators need to be hard-wired to the ET? That will be a complication, as it crosses a walkway and the pool, but I guess I could make it work, if necessary.

ISO: Automation Installer in So Cal Carlsbad

Thanks Jim, thats helpful info. I do have a pool and spa. The valves are located about 30 ft around the corner from the heater and filter, so I assume I'll need wifi-connected actuators to change them? I also plan on doing the screen logic, as that seems to simplify things. I will also...

ISO: Automation Installer in So Cal Carlsbad

Hey all: Looking to get an EZ-touch panel and possibly new VS pump installed in Carlsbad/La Costa area. I got a lot of great info here, but am not confortable with my electrical skills to try an install. Any suggestions? I read the sticky, I think its OK to ask, but if not, mods feel free to...

Thanks Jim, looks intriguing, I'll check my piggy bank. ;-)

Need to replace Pentair VS pump, but with what? And automation? BF deals?

Thanks James, no, the Pentair was a year or two out of warranty, and the replacement of the LCD is almost $500, so new pump is needed, unless I go the automated route (pump seems to work fine, but for the inability to control anything. . the buttons and speed settings work too. Do I want/need...

Need to replace Pentair VS pump, but with what? And automation? BF deals?

Thanks Guys, I appreciate the suggestions. I agree that the need to replace the pump could be removed by adding a controller like the EasyTouch. Does the IntelliChlor replace the AquaRite? Suggested vendors for a quote on such? Gracias, Joel

Need to replace Pentair VS pump, but with what? And automation? BF deals?

The LCD screen on my Pentair VS went out last year, and I survived a whole year with the settings that were in existence when it went out (starts 5 am, runs til 1 pm at a moderate rate 1100 rpm). I have a pool/spa, and SWG. I have considered Automating in the past, but have never done it. I...

LCD Screen on Pentair IntelliFlo gone bad

Would love to see a video on the process, I'm gun-shy of opening the case and making sure the power is off, but haven't seen my screen in over a year, lol. . .

Tailing off a SLAM, but missed readings on critical day

OK, I'm a bad pool owner. Didn't get post-sundown readings again last night, and readings today: 13 FC 0 CC 625 CH (?) 120 TA 40 CYA 8.2 ph Water looks clean, no visible algae. I cut the lawn near the pool on Thurs, and there is some residual debris on surface from that, but otherwise looks...

Tailing off a SLAM, but missed readings on critical day

Thanks guys, I started at 50 CYA (it was between 40-50) and its SWG. OK, I'm close enough to 20 anyway, might as well do it right. how soon after adding can I check? I'll use pool math to add the appropriate bleach.

Tailing off a SLAM, but missed readings on critical day

So I started my SLAM on Monday, and had fairly consistent results, with no overnight losses on Wed, Thurs I didn't get readings at all, and now its Fri (Day 5) and my FC level has dipped from 22 to 17, water looks good with no perceptible algae. My readings today: 17 FC 0 CC 500 CH 140 TA 7.8...

PH keeps rising during my SLAM?

OK, thanks, had 22 FC and 0 CC today, I think I'm outta the woods, no visible mustard anymore either, I'll keep an eye on but expect to let the FC drift down now. . .

PH keeps rising during my SLAM?

OK, my CL dropped to 22 again (?), and I had just some pink clouding, so 1 drop of reagent gave me .5 CC. 130 TA and holding. Is it usual to see that much of a drop in CL overnight, without a lot of organic matter in the pool? The visible mustard is almost completely gone, and i'll give it...

PH keeps rising during my SLAM?

Thanks. here https://www.troublefreepool.com/calc.html is where it shows 34 CL for mustard algae, but I think thats just the generic info inserted? I know its lower with the SLAM link. Ok, so after adding the gal. of CL this am, I am at 30. I'll leave it and check tonight and tomorrow to see...

PH keeps rising during my SLAM?

OK, thanks. The water itself is clear, there is just yellowing on the steps, but I guess thats attributable to the water, so I'll keep SLAMing til its gone. I got the 34 CL number from the Pool Math chart for mustard algae. I did note the difference with the SWG #'s and normal bleach #'s too...

PH keeps rising during my SLAM?

Thanks, the water is clear, CC is zero, and there is some residual mustard on the steps and corners, I'll try to keep the CL at the recommended 34 and see how quickly I drop. I have a midnight blue quartzscape with abalone, so I'm a bit nervous about "bleaching" out the color by keeping the CL...

PH keeps rising during my SLAM?

Ah, OK, thanks, I did not know that. So no need to add MA during the slam? I didn't do an OCLT last night, but I've obviously lost CL, so I'll try to test more today, but I"m going to bump it back up to 30 or so first.

PH keeps rising during my SLAM?

I was over 8.2 in PH prior to my slam, so I added a gallon of MA, and it dropped to 7.2. I loaded 4 gals of CL (13.5 HDX from HD), and I was about 34 CL. Took my readings this am, and got the following: 22 CL 0 CC 400 CH 130 TA 50 CYA PH 8.2 + 2600 salt Per pool math, I just added 1/2 gal of...

Muriatic before Bleach, and high PH (grr)

Woops, disregard, just found some good threads on waiting at least 15 mins and brushing before adding both ;-)

Muriatic before Bleach, and high PH (grr)

Thanks. I thought I recalled a prohibition of adding CL and Muriatic at the same time, is this a no-no? If so, how long do I need to wait after muriatic to add CL? Gracias, JB

Muriatic before Bleach, and high PH (grr)

Thanx Tex, so enough Muriatic to get to 7.2 ph, then slam it up with bleach? I just poured about 1/2 gal of 14.5% muriatic in. Seems my ph is a bit of a beast to get lower, but I should do that before adding too much bleach. I appreciate the feedback, Joel

Muriatic before Bleach, and high PH (grr)

Hey guys, trying to get my stuff dialed in, could use an assist. Pool H20 is looking good, but some mustard on the sides and in the shadows. I have a SWG but turned it off for winter (in So Cal). I put in about 4 gals of bleach about 3 weeks ago, when I had 0 CH and 0 CC. Last week I added...

Best brush for Colored Quartzccapes Pool?

My resurfacing was about a year ago, and I'm starting to get some mustard algae. Old brush is toast, whats the current best brush to use? I have Midnight blue quartzscape, so don't want to hurt my surface (I have abalone too, if that matters). Do brushes with stainless bristles degrade/abraid...

New build in San Diego, CA

Hey, looking good :-). Colored Quartzscapes will always have some mottling of color,, but it's important to keep your chemical balance, especially in the first month, and brush a lot. Plaster dust can cause uneven splotches if not brushed. The orifices for the jacuzzi and pool inlet are just...
