CYA very high with unknown reason

This also explains your high CYA. I can’t believe the pool store told you to add cya when you chlorinate with tabs. Scratch that, yes I can. Stay out of pool stores!

    Digital pool tester

Have you tried the Taylor FAS-DPD test? It’s a drop test. It turns red in the presence of chlorine, you count the number of drops needed to turn clear. Can you see the difference between red and clear?

    Mastertemp 400 Thermal Regulator

Thanks. I found a different place to get the part, now it’s arriving on Wednesday. I ran it a little bit with it removed yesterday (daughter had a friend over and wanted to go into the hot tub). I don’t think I’ll use it again until the part comes in.

    Mastertemp 400 Thermal Regulator

Hi all. My heater has been cycling on/off when the water reaches about 85 degrees. I read a few threads on here on how to troubleshoot. I originally thought it was the high limit switch, but I replaced it and it was still shutting off. I then removed the thermal regulator (see pic) and now...

    Controlling Green Algae

The experts have already chimed in, but I wanted to add one thing. You said “I have more of a check question as to whether it is normal algae growth or excessive”. To be clear, there is no normal algae growth. Those that test regularly and follow TFP parameters don’t get any algae. I never...

Why isn't my chlorine sky high?

https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2018/12/12/slam-shock-level-and-maintain/ Waiting until the sun goes down just let’s the algae grow more. The M in SLAM stands for maintain. You want to maintain the shock level of chlorine until the SLAM exit criteria is met.

Why isn't my chlorine sky high?

A few things. Algae eats chlorine, so not a surprise it gets used up quickly. Which chlorine test are you using? You say the one in the TF 100, but you also say “standard 5 drop” and mention the color yellow. You want to use the FAS-DPD test. Put DPD powder in, it turns red if it has...

does my pool look ok after 5 days?

Yes, thank you. It might seem daunting to get a test kit, but I promise you, it will make your life so easy. Threads here go one of two ways. 1) Poster gets scared off/lazy about getting a test kit. Never posts again 2) Poster buys a test kit, posts results, and follows the advice from the...

does my pool look ok after 5 days?

Get a test kit, you won’t regret it. A little more work and $$ initially, then easier and cheaper later.

does my pool look ok after 5 days?

Oh, and no, it doesn’t look right. Looks cloudy. You should be able to call heads or tails if a quarter was resting on the bottom of the deep end.

does my pool look ok after 5 days?

What are your pool water testing results from your own, drop based (TF100 or Taylor 2006c) test kit? This site is based on data and science. An expert will be along soon, but they are going to want to see the data.

    Help with Levels

Remember, it’s the amount of water you REMOVE from your pool that will reduce the CYA. If you didn‘t get enough rain to have to drain some, it wouldn’t have any effect.

    Freezing weather

I’m happy to report I fired the pool back up yesterday, and everything is working. Thanks all for your advice. Me too. I already called a few places. I’m going to PM you to see if we can compare notes on generators.

    Freezing weather

Another question. What do I do once temps go back to normal? Make sure drain plugs are nice and tight, and then just turn on the pump? Air gets flushed out? Some other process? Thanks.

    Freezing weather

My power is back on, but I’m fully anticipating it going off again on Sunday/Monday. Forecast for 5 inches of snow a high temp of 19 and a low of 7! So...a few questions. If the power is on, I think I’ll be fine. I’ll just keep water flowing. If it goes out, you say to drain water from the...

High FC - can cold temp affect my test?

According to pool math, an IC40 at 35% for 8 hours in a 22,000 gallon pool raises it by .9 ppm. If you’re losing .5 ppm/day like me, it will still increase at 35%. My suggestion is that you turn it off for a few days, then remeasure. Then you’ll know how much you’re losing per day and can...

    IC60 Measuring Salt Level Often

Dirk - I thought the reason they "talked" to each other was so IntelliPH could tell the salt cell not to produce while it was injecting acid. My acid injection is just before the cell. Does it matter if the cell is producing when acid is being injected?

    IC60 Measuring Salt Level Often

To close the loop here for anyone else searching the forums in the future. Soon after noticing this issue, my Intelliph board fried for the 2nd time. Now Pentair says the IC60 draws too much current for the Intelliph. They swapped out my IC60 for an IC40. My pool is 20,000 gallons, so no...
