Things you wish you had known

I really really like my current setup. It would not be much different if I built a new one. I'd say I wish I had a pool that had extra plumbing [sends and returns]. It would be great to have a separate line direct to the pool and/or Spa for my solar hot water return. It would be great to have...

    Pool heating

That makes sense with those numbers. Basically, if you lose heat quickly, and can gain it quickly, less energy is lost, and if you can heat quickly, as you can, the only benefit ti keeping it warm is you don't have to wait to go in. Also, if put your pool information in your signature, it...

    Saltwater Generator what to do?

Hmmm. Interesting thought. If you are double lucky, see if anyone shoots AquaBright in your area. I'd bet, if they did it during a pool job, that they could shoot AquaBright on it. And that would stop it for many years. I assume the rust is near the water line? But if if lots of things are...

    Saltwater Generator what to do?

I think you are on the right track. Keep asking questions, and you will get the info you need to make good decisions. I think what might be throwing you off is rust. You think SWG pool is a rusty pool. That is not really the case. A rusty pool is a rusty pool. if the materials will rust, they...

    Saltwater Generator what to do?

You Mary want to fix that corrosion anyway. And you may want to add salt for the nice feel of it. Don't need quite as much as for an SWG, but some is nice.

    Pool heating

OK, so cooling rate will be temp dependent but that one is easy. Leave the heat off, and take a few temperature measurements during a 24 hour period. Without clouds at night will give you the worst-case heat loss, especially if it is windy. Also, another question I forgot to ask is, what would...

    Pool heating

You can get some pretty good rules of thumb if you take some measurements. You will need 1) cost to heat your pool 1 degree 2) speed your pool cools normally 3) speed your heater heats your pool 1 degree. I -think- with this info you can decide what makes sense.

    What Filter Should I Buy?

I'm with JFN. I liked my old DE, I really like my Quad DE80. Dropped my power bill too. I saw a 2:1 reduction in flow friction, and was able to drop by pump speed [and therefore power utilization] to about 170 watts.
