Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

Do you have an old pool noodle? If so, tear it up into long strips and shove them into the skimmer.

It'll also fit your hot water heater. I hook up a garden hose every so often to drain the tank.

Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

I’m going to try and answer multiple questions here in one post, @nikausp You’ll want to avoid trying to heat the pool as it’s just going to take so much time. Spa’s are a very small body of water and they simply don’t take long to heat up. Here’s an article further explaining...

Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

@Newdude ONLY requirement I had when we bought our house was a garage to park the vehicle. I lucked out big time, house we found had a garage in the basement which means it’s heated plus has easy access to water. Now, I’ve got a pressure washer hooked up year round to wash all the salt off the...

    Pump screeching when cold

That’s definitely a weird sound. I’d keep a very close eye on things. We commonly get a week or so of 30° weather in March or early April up here in Ohio and it’s common for me to have already opened our pool when we’re seeing those temps. Never has our pump sounded like that.

Here’s a shot from the front security camera from a few nights ago……..high 30’s right now are a treat.

Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

I wouldn’t stress it. Don’t forget, the ground stays at a steady temp regardless how cold it is out. That’ll help fend off some of the cold.

Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

Running the pump should take care of many issues. The temps there really aren’t gonna be horrid for a long time, a tarp over the equipment….a warm light….and running your pump should address the huge majority of your issues. Take a gander at the following thread...

Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

As long as you know how to remove those plugs and where they are.....you’re good. Enjoy the game! My main concern would be for those newer users who don’t really know where these valves/plugs are. I’d also add drain the heater in worst case.....if you’ve got one.

Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

One thing you may wanna think about is to automate some of those heating items. There’s a strong chance they’ll be ran at times when not really needed. A $15 WiFi smart plug can really come in handy here so you can turn thing on/off from inside rather than having to go outside. 😂 I’ve got some...

Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

There’s multiple answers here, depending on your goals. The key however is to do everything when it’s warm. DON’T wait until it’s 10° or whatever to learn. You’ll enjoy it a lot more when you can feel your fingers. 😂 If it were me I’d put all of my focus on equipment. I’d drain the pump...

Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

Please make sure to spend a few minutes while it’s warm’ish to learn how to winterize your pad. For sure you can run the equipment with weather that cold, just prepare for worst case. If power goes out due to ice or whatever your plumbing will be full of water and will freeze in time. Just be...

Pool equipment update (need expert help please!)

It kinda sounds to me like your gut isn’t sitting well with this quote. I personally would listen to that gut. As others have mentioned, get more quotes for sure. I tend to also agree with you making the (small) jump to a variable speed pump(s) is a VERY wise move at this point as well. Lastly...

What has just ruined my pool? Pump? Heater?

Question for you, Do you normally preform tests using your personal kit and adjust chemistry from there? Is the pool tech the only one who’s testing and adjusting the chemicals??

    Heat Pump & Pool Cover

Or suggest a pole plunge! If you’ve got a Spa nearby they can warm up with a soak after a refreshing dive in the ice water. Heat pumps shine when the temps are warmer, but cold outdoor temps are their kryptonite. There’s simply not enough warmth in the air for them to effectively pull heat from...

Pool drain in deep end is cracked and sinking in and I'm freaking out! FIXED!

Many many pools out there aren’t even built with main drains, but still work just fine. Just don’t tell him what happened. 😉

Most effective way to have some peace and quiet

I’m thinking the thread is starting to go off in a wrong direction. Let’s get back to helping the OP find some peace and quiet. Im thinking debates aren’t helping them find a zen moment. My suggestion to you @akropp.......have kids around whenever you’re not looking to relax. Then kick them out...

    How to use the drain

The last time we replaced our liner we watched as they totally filled the pool with water. Multiple times during the process I pointed out a crease in the deep end forming yet the installer was sure the liner was measured wrong and we were gonna have to live with it. Despite me offering to...

    How to use the drain

For starters, WELCOME TO TFP!! Before you try draining, try a toilet plunger to work it out.....Preferably a new one. In the past I’ve been able to use that to kinda push the liner into place.

My in-line chlorinator just blew up..

https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/12/23/swimming-pool-plumbing-repair/ I too wouldn’t wait for quotes and all that jazz. I’d guess $20 and an hour of time will get your pool running. Once you’re back up THEN worry about upgrades and such.

    Is the pool guy correct?

So, it appears you have visible algae that were not sure if it’s dead or alive. You did pass the OCLT technically BUT there was something consuming the chlorine as you saw a drop. IMHO I personally would focus on a SLAM rather than focusing on the filter. The algae in my eyes appears to be the...

    Is the pool guy correct?

Perfect! Another question just so we can have a large photo of your issue.............. When was the last time you deep cleaned your filter if ever? Have you ever added any products like Floc or clarifiers to the pool? While the Pool 6 photo clearly looks like an algae outbreak I'm wanting to...

    Is the pool guy correct?

Good afternoon ABQ_Pool, So it seems like we're running around and around in circles here. Let's take a step back and check things off working from simple to difficult. To start, I'd like to ask a few simple questions just to get everybody here on the same page. There's a HUGE chance the...
