Solar heat -- reduce pump output from 1.5" to 1"

Well, it's a way to get my feet wet on the topic... 10 sq. ft. is more than some of the toys they sell: Amazon.com : Kokido Keops Solar Dome Above Ground Swimming Pool Water Heater | K835CBX/RV : Garden & Outdoor Any idea on the pump strain issue, due to reduction in output diameter? Also...

Solar heat -- reduce pump output from 1.5" to 1"

Would it harm the pump to reduce the output from 1.5", then run it through 300' of 1" black poly pipe, then back to the pool? It's a two-speed pump, running on low speed 24/7. The only time I use high speed is for the vacuum, backwash, etc.

NEW POOL -- Pump & Filter placement?

OK, my brain must be addled from all the excavation & setup work...here is a better arrangement of filter & pump, closer to the pool, looks like 3' hoses could be used instead of 6'. SEE 1st PHOTO. -- Looking at the hoses close up, are these made to be cut into shorter hoses? SEE 2nd PHOTO...

NEW POOL -- Pump & Filter placement?

Before I dig in the dirt and level the 2" solid blocks with sand, is this set up correctly? SEE PHOTO. -- Are the filter & pump too close/far from pool wall? -- Is it OK if hoses touch? -- Hoses are dinky, want to replace with better ones; any suggestions as to a quality Brand? -- Both are...

    New pool -- Test kit?

Have had the Intex variety of soft-side pools for years, starting with 10' and moving up to 18'. Filled with shallow-well water, always got by with floater-tablets, and a weekly bottle of Bleach. Finally decided to put in a permanent hard-wall, 24' Aluminum, 4' deep above-ground. Just...

HELP! Hazy, turned Cloudy, turned Milky

All seems well, although am getting more debris in the pool -- a few leaves and misc. Test for Wed. was: TC: 3 pH: 7.2 Tonight (Sunday) was: TC: 3 pH: 7.3 Will wait for pH: to rise a bit more before dumping the last of the MA.

HELP! Hazy, turned Cloudy, turned Milky

TC is 4. Will wait for Wed. night test to run pH and TA, since we haven't been in enough to splash around to raise pH.

HELP! Hazy, turned Cloudy, turned Milky

It seemed that TA didn't change, unless I added MA; after adding, pH rose to 7.4 and stayed there (ph rises slower, the lower the TA, it seems). Since the TA goal is 80, and since I want to get rid of the small amount of MA left, I thought to bring down TA a bit, from the last reading of 120...

HELP! Hazy, turned Cloudy, turned Milky

Forgot to report last night: TC: 3 Although nobody has complained about the water, I'm going to use up the Muriatic Acid to reduce TA (was 120), since I doubt I'll have any other use for it. pH has been consistent at 7.4.

HELP! Hazy, turned Cloudy, turned Milky

Guess I'll do it every other time, then. Keeping in mind that I'm a "newbie" to drop testing & pool problems...what could pH indicate?

HELP! Hazy, turned Cloudy, turned Milky

Even after an all day rain, water was nice & clear last night: TC: 3 pH: 7.4 Water seems fine, no complaints about feel, so I think I'll stop taking pH readings, as there seems to be no need to adjust TA. Looks like chlorine is holding fine, no doubt due to the floater tabs. Now, if I can...

HELP! Hazy, turned Cloudy, turned Milky

Well, it was that old TV commercial that did it for me -- where she cut up old credit cards to make a mosaic on the bottom of a swimming pool -- it just set off the ol' BABE ALERT in my brain! It was a spoof, but it was just COOL! She made my TIVO (now Media Center) list. The reaction of...

HELP! Hazy, turned Cloudy, turned Milky

It's Wed. evening, and -- due to an acute attack of stupidity -- the readings are: TC: 0 - 0.5 pH: 7.4 Ruh-roh! I noticed Saturday that the floater tabs were wearing low, but thought it could wait 'til Wed. Evidently NOT! Have added enough bleach to raise TC to 5, added two tabs, and will...

HELP! Hazy, turned Cloudy, turned Milky

Water clean & clear; this evenings' test results: TC: 3 pH: 7.3 See no need to add anything. Got a neat Intex magnetic pool light (passes current by induction, I suppose). Kids think it's "AWESOME" -- we let'em have a night swim. Obviously, you're both persons of refined taste<g>. Well...

HELP! Hazy, turned Cloudy, turned Milky

Water is clear, Wed. night test results look good: TC: 3 pH: 7.4 I tested "vacuum to waste": Sunk the hose, covered the end with my palm and put it on the ground. Works like a champ! (Wish I had done this when I had all that freakin' white powder at the bottom...) It is only fitting that...

HELP! Hazy, turned Cloudy, turned Milky

Added bleach Wed. evening. Tonight, Sat., readings: TC: 4 pH: 7.4 Found a timer at Wally World that goes on/off at dusk/dawn, so hooked it up -- along with a portable GFCI -- for automatic night filtering. I look at the water every morning...clear as glass; I can see every speck of dirt on...

HELP! Hazy, turned Cloudy, turned Milky

Um, why test again in the morning? I have the two floaters, so if I let the chlorine get down to 1, then raise to 4 with bleach -- per PoolCalculator -- I should only need to test twice a week, hopefully. Or, so my thinking goes...

HELP! Hazy, turned Cloudy, turned Milky

Things looking good, so decided to skip a few days, and test in the evening, prior to adding bleach, if needed: TC: 2 pH: 7.4 Not adding anything. Have two floaters w/3" tabs, water looks clean & clear, will vacuum the little bit of dirt tomorrow.
