Austin BYOP Build In Progress - 9/23 Construction Start

Hi All, I’m remiss and need to post some updated pics of my progress. Things slowed down due to a delay in some materials but they are finishing decking today/tomorrow in anticipation of a decking pour next week. Does anyone have any recommendations on a cleanup contractor to haul off the...

Austin BYOP Build In Progress - 9/23 Construction Start

I have some updates... 1. The IC60 has been moved the before the pool/spa valve. 2. Check valves have been added as advised to heat pump and heater/cooler. 3. I now have the recommended 12-18” before the cell. 4. Gunite was completed on Friday! They started at 7am and finished at 6pm. What a...

Pool deck experience with hot concrete pavers

Very kind of you, @chemsales . These pictures were incredibly helpful, especially the one with the paver against the blue background. My wife and I are now confident this is the right choice for us. We’re having the pavers cut for coping and retaining wall capping. No need to go out of your way...

Pool deck experience with hot concrete pavers

@chemsales were you by chance able to take pictures of the Shell Beige paver cut for coping? I’m going with travertine coping cut from 16x24 pavers and my wife and I want to go with Shell Beige but we’re hard pressed to go with it solely after the pictures in the catalog and I can’t find it...

Thanks everyone again for all of your help. The plumber is coming later this week to add the check valves, move the salt cell, ensure at least 12” of straight pipe, and remove the valve currently after the salt cell on the pool side.

Hook em @Robtown and thanks for the callout. I would think that it would be in the schematic but definitely better to verify. thanks @DB-Cooper . Makes me wonder if I have the same plumber who your builder used. The plumber has been great up to this point so I’m confident we’ll get it fixed. I...

Austin BYOP Build In Progress - 9/23 Construction Start

There goes my passing grade on pool plumbing master class! In all seriousness, this makes complete sense. Thanks for your patience and expertise explaining it to me. On another note, there’s another valve here that I don’t see in the schematic. As you can see, it’s on the pool return side after...

Austin BYOP Build In Progress - 9/23 Construction Start

Thank you, @ajw22 ! Could the corrosion resistant check valve currently before the pool/spa return valve serve the same purpose as the 2 check valves you recommended on the outlet of the heat pump and heater?

Austin BYOP Build In Progress - 9/23 Construction Start

I agree this is a much better setup as it provides more flexibility. Just to confirm, the setup you described above wouldn’t require any changes to the plumbing design (other than placing the salt cell before the pool/spa return valve) given that the intellivalves would be placed on the 3” spa...

Austin BYOP Build In Progress - 9/23 Construction Start

This is probably a dumb question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. Is having the valve set to 90% pool flow and 10% spa flow what actually creates the spillover effect? If so, do I understand correctly that there’s no actual plumbing change required to “modify” the existing plan of having the...

Austin BYOP Build In Progress - 9/23 Construction Start

I will also have a spillover if that matters that is always running when the pump runs. Part of my concern is will Pentair deny any future warranty claims if equipment is not installed based on the recommended specification. After reading this, I’m thinking he meant type to type “actuator valve”...

So after further conversation it does look like Heater bypasses were installed. @ajw22 Does this look accurate that it would be the 2 valves circled in this screenshot? Here was the response: “I have always plumbed heaters and heat pumps with bypass because it’s also recommended by manufacture...

Austin BYOP Build In Progress - 9/23 Construction Start

This is incredibly helpful, @ajw22. There are 4 things I need to get addressed: Hester bypasses HP and Heater in series per Pentair recommendation Salt cell before pool/spa valve Don’t need corrosion resistance check valve This is exactly why I love this site and appreciate people giving their...

Thanks for the camera tips and the pool plumbing recommendations! I just measured and I do have 18” of straight pipe. I’ll also ask my plumber to get the bypasses installed.

Hey @scoopertx , where in Austin are you? I’m in southwest Austin just west of oak hill. I opted for SWG after reading hours of posts on this site to educate myself. It seems much more common outside of TX and seems to make the maintenance much easier. The benefit of BYOP is there’s no builder...

Update: Steel finished today, plumbing is halfway done and will be finished tomorrow. I need to verify when electric will be done as they got backed up due to the steel being delayed a day but gunite is scheduled 11/6. I’m hoping I might be able to slip into the gunite schedule sooner if...

Austin BYOP Build In Progress - 9/23 Construction Start

Forming completed today. Plumbing and steel should start this week and the pool electrician is coming a week from today. I’ve realized I’m behind on coping, waterline tile, type of finish on raised bonded beam wall (bid includes 3cm travertine veneer), and aggregate finish so I’m doubling down...

Great suggestion, @YippeeSkippy . I honestly hadn’t thought about it as I haven’t yet looked at tile and aggregate finish colors (need to jump on that ASAP) but I’ll take a look at it and likely incorporate it in. Thanks again for the suggestion!

Thanks, Maddie. This is the exact reason I put it on the opposite side from where people will be jumping in. Note the raised wall where the spa is located is opposite where the bench is. There’s about 13-14 feet from where people will be jumping from the top of the wall to the edge of the bench...

Thanks, @HermanTX . I’ve done lots of measuring and there’s only one area of concern which is the sun ledge. It’s supposed to be 6.5ft long and my measurement shows it’s 6ft from the edge of the excavated area to the edge of the ledge. Should I think about the inside of the excavated area as...

Hi All, I finally broke ground on 9/23 after a couple of weeks of delay to the rain in Austin. As a reminder, here are the specs for my build: 35ft x 21ft saltwater pool (~27.5K Gallons) Depth 3.5ft to 4ft to 7ft deep end 3 bubblers and 2 sheers 13ft x 6.5ft Sun ledge Raised Spa w/ spillover...

Owner Build NW Las Vegas. ... Decking complete, time for Quartz

Hey @guinness I didn’t end up calling Pentair directly but I did connect with 2 parts houses who verified Pentair doesn’t have a part number for the IC60 combo. Polytech Pool created their own bundle online and I’m currently working with them to potentially get all of my equipment. Price is best...

Equipment List - What Would You Change?

I think I need the heater no matter what for the spa but great point about maybe not needing the pump and instead going solar. The drawback I see here is no option to cool the pool in the hot Texas sun. I haven’t given much thought to a cover but thanks for the link as I’ll definitely check it out.

Admittedly I haven’t done the math but great callout that I need to do it. I’ll search for a calculator to make sure I understand the cost. Thanks for the suggestion.

Equipment List - What Would You Change?

Thanks, @Jimrahbe . I just thought it was strange that they would offer the easy touch package with the 60 but not the IntelliCenter. @Sparks22, this is what was recommended by my pool consultant. I plan to talk to the parts person tomorrow. The way it was explained to me was the heat pump...
