Need some clarification about closing an AG frame pool

Thank you both so much, that was really helpful! And thanks for the extra link bover907, they were really informative. I'm just dying to close this pool and be done with it, but the water probably isn't quite cold enough yet, it was still 69-71 when I checked it last week.

Need some clarification about closing an AG frame pool

I went and measured the lowest intake, its at 27", so even only draining 3" below leaves my 48" pool only half full.

Need some clarification about closing an AG frame pool

Ok, I have read the post about winterizing your AG pool: Closing (Winterizing) Your Above Ground Pool - Trouble Free Pool but still have some questions I was hoping to get some help with so I can get busy getting the supplies I need to be ready to close! I have an 18’ round Coleman Ultra-frame...

Not ready to close pool, but can I cover and maintain it while covered for a few weeks?

Gregfsc - I've considered the leaf net too, though my biggest problem is bugs and I don't think it would help with that. I do think I'll likely get one for over the winter cover though that makes sense. you'll have to let me know if it works out for when pool is open. Next year I'm going to have...

Not ready to close pool, but can I cover and maintain it while covered for a few weeks?

Thanks! Is it better to keep it closer to shock levels while covered or just regular levels?

Not ready to close pool, but can I cover and maintain it while covered for a few weeks?

Our weather has turned cool early this year in Indiana, and the pool is hardly getting used. Meanwhile the maintenance of it has gone up. The cooler, windier weather means that I'm having to clean out bugs and leaves multiple times a day to stay on top of it. Pretty thankless when it gets used...

Does this count as passing the ONLT?

Hi, I've had a super busy (insane more like it) couple of weeks and haven't been able to vacuum the pool. I've just kept it as clear as I could by skimming, brushing, and keeping FC levels right. Finally took the morning off yesterday to get the pool vacuumed out super well and discovered a tiny...

Will temperature of R-0013 affect CYA reading?

Ok, thanks. I do get the same reading over and over with the same mixture. Its just that the next time I do it (with a fresh mixture) it will be 20+ lower or higher. Oh well. I'll just continue to use the higher number to set the goal and try to quit being annoyed by it!

Will temperature of R-0013 affect CYA reading?

Thanks Wobblerlorri, I do, do this. I agree it makes it easier. I've read everything I can find about how to perform this test properly (back to the sun, hold waist high, glance, make sure water isn't too cold). I'm not getting variations between the same mixture. It's happening on totally...

Will temperature of R-0013 affect CYA reading?

I am still struggling with the CYA test. When I first put stabilizer in the pool I measured with a goal of 40ppm. However, I was using 6000 gallons, the capacity of my pool and it was not completely full. So when I first tested and was getting 50-60 I figured that was why. I've since filled the...

How often do you have to turn off the water going to your sand filter?

Maddie - I don't have the sand filter/pump yet but with my cartridge filter, since its on the ground below the water line, if you open it up the water just keeps pouring out freely, I imagine its the same thing with the sand filter. I get around that with my current filter by lifting it up to...

How often do you have to turn off the water going to your sand filter?

Thanks Chasarms. Once a week is not too bad, though I could potentially see wanting to clean that debris basket more frequently since we have a lot of trees around the pool. I hadn't thought of the need to do that so I think that answers my question, probably worth it!

How often do you have to turn off the water going to your sand filter?

Hello, new pool owner. Have an 18x48 Coleman Frame Pool which has two 1.25" outtake hoses going to the filter and the only way to stop the water is to put in plugs. I just ordered the Intex 3000 GPH Sand Filter Pump and my question is how often do you have to shut off the water from the intake...

Do you SLAM after a lot of rain water?

Homemade filter for the win! Thought I'd update. It's been a trying week. I got lucky and had everything I needed arrive on Weds: vacuum, R-0013 and even the R-0871 which wasn't supposed to arrive until Fri. Even keeping the SLAM level perfect and vacuuming and brushing constantly didn't seem...

Do you SLAM after a lot of rain water?

Speaking of shooting...ouch! I think I'm bleeding! ;) Ok, I will stick with 24. I'm curious if it will only fall to 18 again in the same time frame. I won't touch the PH again.

Do you SLAM after a lot of rain water?

Tested and FC has dropped from 28: FC: 18 CC: 0 PH: 7.4 So I tested last night and added chlorine right around 9pm, so it has been roughly 21 hours and FC dropped 10ppm. Which is my biggest drop yet! Not sure if that's good or just a sign that I used way more chlorine than needed for my CYA...

Do you SLAM after a lot of rain water?

Yay! I'm glad it looks like progress! I didn't know I was going to have to SLAM. I've only had the pool up for two weeks. I bought the test kit after I was having problems with my well water and iron. Got it clear pretty quick, but had a vacation planned already the weekend after I got it up (I...

Do you SLAM after a lot of rain water?

Thanks for the assurance William and an explanation of what the progression looks like. I don't have a vacuum yet, its on order and if I'm lucky it will come tomorrow. I've been brushing and skimming like crazy though. Should have some super muscular arms when this is all done!

Do you SLAM after a lot of rain water?

Hmmm, looking back at the picture I posted originally the pool does look less green, but more cloudy now. Though this could just be the quality of the light too. It was overcast the day I first posted, and very sunny today. First day:

Do you SLAM after a lot of rain water?

Here are a couple of pictures, taken just now of the pool. Also the filter from this morning. Is that algae? It looks a bit like captured iron but maybe less red and I mostly see that if I put a sock over the return jet, then the filter catches it too. Yesterday's brand new cartridge had none of...

Do you SLAM after a lot of rain water?

By the way, let me say a big thank you for the help! I feel like this pool is drowning me and I've only ever been in it once! I've only had one up for two weeks and have spent most of that time dealing with problems. The timing was bad for when it went up and our vacation. I didn't know. I'm...

Do you SLAM after a lot of rain water?

Yes, I'm trying to follow it. 20ppm was SLAM level based on 50 CYA, when almost nothing was consumed I raised it to 24 based on 60 CYA, but I lost nothing yesterday at that level. Last night I tried 28 based on 70cya. There's no way my CYA is over 70! I'll test this afternoon. I noticed this...

Do you SLAM after a lot of rain water?

I'm sorry if I'm being dense. I understand about keeping on with the SLAM process. What I'm not understanding is how to tell if I'm doing it at the right level? I thought my chlorine would be dropping rapidly during this as it killed algae and I'd have to be adjusting it back up a lot, but the...

Do you SLAM after a lot of rain water?

Do you SLAM after a lot of rain water?

HELP! I just don't know what to do... Just tested at 8:45pm, over 6 hours since last test, bright sunny day. FC - 24 CC - .5 PH - 7.0 (this is what the color test is saying, meter is still saying 7.2, either way hasn't changed) FC only went down .5 over the course of the whole day! Should I...

Do you SLAM after a lot of rain water?

I'm struggling with if I even need to SLAM, my FC levels are NOT falling. I'm running out of reagent for FC and already out of reagent for CYA. I'd ordered more before I even knew I would try to SLAM but they won't be here until towards the end of the week. So I started SLAM. Saturday evening I...

Doing a SLAM of my pool, here's my original thread that lead to that if you're interested: Do you SLAM after a lot of rain water? I'm using the Taylor K-2006 Complete testing kit.
