Tea colored water from fall leaves and tannin, trying to close

Hello all, I let the fall leaves sit in my net on top of the pool for too long and ended up with a deep end the color of a weak tea. t least it's a weak tea and not a strong one or coffee colored! I have been trying to get the tannin colors out of the water with high chlorination levels but it...

Pump GFCI breaker trips when bonding wire attached

Just a guess but I think the problem is in your 2nd picture with the L2 connection and only a few strands. When the 120v phase for L1 is "on" (like 1/60th of every second) the L2 connection may be seeing a load imbalance because it cannot return the same load to your electric service over those...

    GFCI for NEC 680

You need a breaker with the pigtail. The neutral bus bar is a connection an older box will not have. The reason there is no pigtail on it is that the connection is made right there, underneath the breaker to run the GFCI current sensing circuit back to neutral. On the pigtail model you just...

Pump GFCI breaker trips when bonding wire attached

Wow, that 2nd picture shows the blue wire has backed out a lot from it's connection (notice the white and brown have the insulation inside the wire clamp / spade assembly. But that black wire may only have a couple of strands still attached to the pump. I'd redo at least about half of those...

DIY Solar--What to do for a pump?

linzjane88 I've been thinking of doing a similar DIY setup. The changes I would make to your example posted would be a layer of foil faced polyiso insulation below the PEX tubing and tempered glass instead of plexiglass cover. Of course that glass makes it very expensive (anyone let me know...

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Just checked my Rural King bleach strength. It was 141 days old, but still tested at 9.6% with JasonLion 10,000 to 1 dilution. Commercial bleach: testing concentration They must be doing something right on shipping and storing. My store had it stored on a pallet inside the store. With the...

Walmart "Pool Essentials 10% Chlorinating Liquid" - Anyone else not able to find it?

Re: Walmart "Pool Essentials 10% Chlorinating Liquid" - Anyone else not able to find Another perfect year with zero sales in July, August and September for 10% bleach. That must look nice on someone's spreadsheet at HQ. I mean no one has bought any in those months for the last 3 years out of...

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

I had not checked at ALDI's before because they had the pondersome 1/ gallon jugs. Now it's a gallon jug of 6% for $2.59 at my store anyway. Maybe chem geek can crunch the numbers and tell us how much more plastic is used in bottling and hauling around half gallon containers (PITA) over gallon...

HELP! Thought things were going well....

Welcome to the forum. Until you get a SWCG or other automatic system installed you will likely need a good liquid chlorine / bleach supply. A lot of pool owners in your area seem to like Ocean State Job Lot for bleach / chlorine / shock (used somewhat interchangeably, my store had no idea...

Walmart "Pool Essentials 10% Chlorinating Liquid" - Anyone else not able to find it?

Re: Walmart "Pool Essentials 10% Chlorinating Liquid" - Anyone else not able to find Yeah it's been about impossible to find at Wally's, Home Despots or Löwes since early summer. My own opinion of this is the rush to produce 6% bleach and sell it for 8% prices (most retailers this year) has...

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

I think what happened is it used to be cheap and economical to buy non scented 8.25% bleach at a lot of stores, including wally's. Now the have increased water and decreased the bleach content all for the same price. So really a huge price hike has sent everyone scrambling for some good and...

    Pump and sand filter questions......

Glycerin gauge +++ had 3 cheapie ones that just flat out died with no movement inside 2 years at my inherited swamp. I didn't bother to look locally, too hard to find specialty items, most retailers would rather carry the cheap and inaccurate stuff you can buy from them again and again. Mine...

Can muriatic acid go bad AKA My muriatic acid seems to be doing absolute squat

Yikes, I think I'd start pumpin my rainwater out of the gutters in the pool with that kind of fill water. I've been watching several homemade aerators threads here. I like the idea of an independent pump, so a plastic body pool scratch free sump pump can do the trick (I'd still be tempted to...

Or if your CYA is still relatively low you COULD go with the pucks in a floater over your vacation. But I would keep a close count on the pucks (consider serial numbering them:p and triple padlock the remaining pucks) and use pool math to figure out the CYA rise. Use that CYA until you have 2...

Can muriatic acid go bad AKA My muriatic acid seems to be doing absolute squat

How high is your TA? ou could lower that with the MA and then aerate to raise the pH if you want to try to eliminate the pH rise. With that much acid demand though I'm not sure why your TA has not already plummeted.

Try Costco or Sam's Club IF you're already member. Won't be 10% probably, but might be cheap enough to make it up. Also Home Depot HDX brand, but really have to check the production dates with HD. There is a real rush among many brands to lower the content from 8.25% to 6% ths year, yet...

    Help with Green Pool

    Help with Green Pool

CYA also should go down because you have to raise FC to shock levels for an extended time in a warm pool. For now the lower CYA means a lower FC to reach shock levels. Once it clears up think about retesting and increasing CYA to slow down sunlight UV burnoff of chlorine. A lower pH initially...

Pucks are not raising my CYA

CYA degrades, Who'd a thunk? You guys are great, that explains a lot. The second post quoted above, Degradation of Cyanuric Acid (CYA)) Goes into details at the bottom of the first page. Basically for summer degradation the primary drivers are temperature of the water and chlorine being near...

Pucks are not raising my CYA

PoolMath calculator says that for a 40K pool it will take 100 ounces of trichlor to raise your CYA by 10 ppm. So figure out how many you have used (hopefully from just one bucket) and see where you should be. That would also lower your ph by 0.9, (well at my borate and tA levels anyway) have you...

Thanks, mystery solved for my borax-ination! Now the real question is why I didn't read more about borates earlier and add borate with a product that did not need that MA like borax requires? The bio diesel suppliers seem to supply that stuff inexpensively. Second question, is why 20 Mule...

discrepancy on cya between me and pool store

IIRC Walmart sells stabilizer in 4 pound jugs. Pool Math says 4 lbs in a new pool at 22K gallons would be a CYA of 16. So how many ounces of CYA did you add already. hypocal and chlorine pucks are going to add more CYA with each use. 8 oz of trichlor will add around 2 CYA to your pool...

How do I blow-out my pool lines? Need help understanding my plumbing.

It looks to me like the Jandy valve to the pump supply is half closed off. If you move that valve near the door to have the handle point into your pump room, that is in the direction that water travels to your pump, are there more skimmers and drains that start working?
