    Starting to lose hope....

Losing large amounts of FC during the day drove me insane but eventually I learned it is totally normal. The higher you raise your FC towards and above SLAM the more you will lose. I kept a log after I completed my SLAM to show how drastic a drop I had even with a "clean" pool *CYA 80 SLAM...

I just got back from vacation and didn't see this thread If you want to compare notes fire away

    What happened?

I feel your pain. A dead bird hidden in my skimmer resulted in a similar problem (link in my sig if you want to review). Cleaning my filter after I was mid SLAM was a big help in my situation. My oversized filter was where I found algae hiding when the pool itself was crystal clear I had a...

Kim, I love the core principles behind everything here at TFP (1) Accurate testing leads to good advice (2) Help others when you can If this FC log helps just 1 person when they have a SLAM that will make me happy You can even sticky this as a learning thread Everyone here has been kind...

SLAMing for 5 days, but still can't even see the bottom

I think passing the OCLT was the hardest part for my SLAM Hopefully your clean and filtering should go quickly We are cheering you on!!!

Day 23 of SLAM, what gives?

Are you testing at the EXACT same spot of your pool every time? I experimented with different locations and confirmed my test results will differ because the pool is not a perfectly mixed container...there are high/low spots based on circulation

    Chlorine Drop Test Question

My FC is still recovering from a SLAM but I will take a picture when it is in "range" to show you the difference. Here is what you see at FC 38 CYA 80 (SLAM target is 31 so I was waaaay above) Dark red means lots of FC A normal pool should NOT look like this *edit* I added my "normal" FC for...

Is SLAM inevitable? (YES...it was...5 Days of stress complete now)

My pool had dropped to CYA of 40 after the winter I raised it up in 2 stages. First to 60 then again to 80. That was shortly before the dead bird and SLAM experience started. I am definitely going to keep my future CYA closer to 60 in the future. I will also ride high on FC in case anything...

30 FC at 1pm (below SLAM so now we can actually swim again woo hoooooo) Dropped down from 37.5 at 520am Now I understand I will lose large percentages when FC is that high regardless of algae or not No longer freaked out. This is just confirmation testing :geek: *edit* Forgot to...

Ready to SLAM and I have some questions

If it helps with your decision I just went through a high CYA SLAM...in 5 days I went through 24 gallons of 10% HD liquid chlorine...and my pool was crystal clear when I started I will be here to cheer you on. I know you are about to go through a roller coaster of stress. But yes...be patient...

SLAM Day 5 Opposite experience from yesterday morning. When I went outside I did NOT smell anything. I hoped that meant the pool was clean and no longer creating chloramines. 5/25 37.5 730pm (0 CC) Added 1 gallon to WATER FEATURE + 60 min run 5/25 44...

Is SLAM inevitable? (YES...it was...5 Days of stress complete now)

Thanks for calming me down about daytime FC loss. Very eye opening lesson in pool chemistry for me right now. There is no filter on the water feature loop. I don't know what a trap is but I doubt it has one. Water goes in a dual intake system to the pump and then back out to the water...

Does this mean a healthy algae-free pool will see the same (or similar) losses when trying to keep the pool at SLAM rates? If so that would help me from going insane :laughblue:

I have no ladders. Natural lagoon style pool (attempting to become more lagoon than pool it seems) I haven't checked behind the lights I will turn water features tonight when the sun goes down and pour liquid chlorine in front of the intake slowly Will leave water features on all night and...

Is SLAM inevitable? (YES...it was...5 Days of stress complete now)

My water features have separate plumbing that does NOT go through the filter or SWG. Intake is on the shallow end. Goes directly to water feature pump then out the weeping wall and grotto. I poured the new liquid chlorine directly outside the intake while the water features were on for my...

In between 9am and 11am I did a ton of brushing in the pool and ran my water features for 30ish minutes Guessing I need to focus in that area next? Maybe I need to run my water features all night and let the FC clear out any potential troublemakers in there
