    Recommendation for PH tester

I just started using it regularly. I used it once before prior to a 4 week trip. Do you know how long the life of the KCl is? Only a one "vial" amount is provided upon purchase; wondering if I need to stock up.

    Recommendation for PH tester

Thanks for your analysis. I've been wondering why mine (PH60) has been taking longer recently. Perhaps it is the cooler water here in the Northern Hemisphere. However when on the phone with the company's tech support I was told that the probes are only designed to last 6-18 months, and one of...

    Dolphin S200 Repair Experience

Thanks for sharing. My S200 is about 9 months old so hoping I don't need the service but good to know it's there.

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Just wanted to add that another reason for not going with the V-Green 165 was that I likely would not utilize the digital inputs function; therefore I would not be able to know the time on its internal clock. That could cause an out-of-sync condition between my SWG's timer and the motor/pump...

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Thanks again Chris for the follow-up. As an update I came across a good deal/delivery date on my existing motor so I went ahead and purchased that one. I only run the motor during off-peak hours, so I figured with the 2 speeds my energy costs are low enough. I also purchased a new impeller...

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Thanks for your response Chris! I'll address your comments/questions below: I need to get moving on motor selection as my pool has been without for 3-4 days now. Luckily it's winter! I may go ahead and get the 1.65 V-green and worry about the digital inputs later. Thanks again.

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Merged threads - TFP Mod My filter pump motor died a few days ago and I've been doing a little research for replacement motors. My current motor is a two-speed, 1.5/.2 HP one with an on-board digital timer. It seems like similar motors are difficult to find, so I have been looking as VS...

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Thanks James. I am assuming these are minimum THPs? In other words if I went with the V-Green 2.7 HP motor, it would work with all impellers?

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Thanks James. Unfortunately the label is no longer there. I won't be able to determine the impeller P/N until I remove and disassemble the old pump. I guess I should do that prior to ordering the new pump? My pump's strainer lid is an SP-3100D if that helps.

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Thanks Allen. Interesting that the pump has the same CAT No. as mine though. Oh well. OK makes sense. But either will work with my impeller and pump?

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Thanks James. I've decided to replace my motor, as the pump is working fine. 1) My current 2-speed motor is "No longer Available" at InyoPools, but I found it here. I have to call for pricing, but do you think this motor will be compatible with my current one and work with my Super II? 2)...

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

OK thanks. Now for Frames, Flanges and Frames...I found this motor which has a C-Flange but is a 56 Frame I believe. The bottom of the page has motors with a "C Face". Would the linked motor work for me?

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Hi, Attached is the label from my 2-speed filter motor pump. I don't understand the 1.5/.20 HP specification. Does anyone have any ideas? Also I suspect the issue I am having with it requires a new run capacitor. I replaced the start capacitor this morning and it didn't resolve the issue...

    Pool Math questions

It's not urgent to test your fill water, but you should soon because it is good info for determining how evaporation will impact your chemistry. Also, when draining your pool in order to lower CYA, don't drain much before you start to refill. In New Orleans the water table is pretty high and...

Suggestions for Layout of New SWCG

Thanks Fred. I will probably use pucks once my SWG stops producing. I have a little CYA headroom, and I shouldn't need many because of the low demand this time of year. I will put a reminder on my calendar every 6 months or so to check the timers on the pool pump and the SWG timer.

Suggestions for Layout of New SWCG

Just to wrap this thread up, I went with this timer for my new Circupool SWG. I re-wired the controller to output 120V instead of the default 240V, and put a 3-prong plug on the electrical cord. The timer needed an extension cord to the GFCI outlet attached to my panel. After a few days'...

Above or in ground hot tub?

I went the same route as @Rattus Suffocatus for the same reasons. If your climate is such that you will be closing the pool/spa in winter, a standalone is a no-brainer.

Spa Vs Stand Alone Hot Tub? Help! Save my marriage.

I'll offer a dissenting view from AZ. We opted for a standalone spa mainly because of the greater therapeutic value and instant hot water. It doesn't get a lot of use in the summer but we use it frequently in winter. It's located right outside our master bedroom door so easy in and out during...

ok to raise chlorine while gone for a few days

Sounds like a plan, although I personally wouldn't drive pH that low without an aeration plan to bring it back up. Couldn't you wait until your return to lower the pH?

Startup SWG chlorinator salt for new pool

Turn your SWG off and see if you still have bubbles. If not, air is getting into the suction side of your system somehow. It could be a worn O-ring on your pump basket lid.

Low Free Chlorine - Need Help Balancing Please!

Ah forgot about the pH tests - I have an electronic tester so I'm not impacted by that. And yes definitely need to get the CYA down.

My chlorine level barely moves now...due to cold temps?

I'm in AZ and have an uncovered pool, and still haven't seen my FC drop appreciably over the last week, when I turned my SWG off. I really think it's lower sun angle, colder water, and lower usage (in that order). In the PNW I bet you hardly get any UV, plus with a cover you won't get chlorine...

Low Free Chlorine - Need Help Balancing Please!

Hi Allen - I'm not doubting you just trying to understand as I am still learning TFP methods. I get the need to maintain an FC level of 12, given the OP's CYA level of 110. I also get that it will take 2 gallons to get that pool to FC=12. But given the time of year, would daily FC consumption...

Suggestions for Layout of New SWCG

Thanks for your candor...I've been known to do so! I am guessing that your old Intermatic ("wheel") timer controls both your pump and your SWG, or you have separate wheel timers for each. Either way you don't have to worry about them getting out of sync, as a power outage will stop both...

Suggestions for Layout of New SWCG

Interesting idea, @caycarem. I actually have one of these controlling my Dolphin robot. I will probably order one and see how it works. I'm a little concerned that I may not have WiFi signal near where the SWG would plug into the Kasa. Also, I would probably need to protect it somehow from...

About to be a first time pool owner, feeling a little overwhelmed.

Note: Just because you may opt to NOT heat the pool doesn't mean you would need to close the pool. I keep mine open all year round but don't have a heater. Hopefully. Some companies just dump and run.

Using a Peristaltic pump for Chlorine

Yippee's correct - it's not the rate that determines safety; it's the level of free chlorine (in parts per million) in the pool. Too low and you can encounter algae and other bacterial risks. Too high and and skin irritation can occur. Note: I'm not too sure what the "too high" is, but most...

Suggestions for Layout of New SWCG

Agree. A couple of weeks ago, I called Circupool and Discount Salt Pool and asked about pros/cons to 110V vs 220V and both said no impacts to running the SWG at 110V, even though the default is 220V. I am just not comfortable as I would like in wiring the switch, so I will probably hire an...
