    green stains

so there is no prevention? I did not have this issue before I replastered the pool.

    green stains

here is an underwater pic. The vitamin C tablet removed the stain! what would be the best product to clear the entire area? some form of solid acid I guess?

    green stains

put a tablet on it- didn't do anything. What else could it be?

    green stains

it's hard to see in the pic- but there is a band of green along the bottom of the wall. Brushing and slamming did not help. Any tips?

    pH too high

the pool was re-plastered about 3 months ago. Since then the pH is constantly running high (8+). I keep adding acid- it goes down for a day or two and then back up. Any tips? CYA=40 TA=80 CH=325 FC=2

how to locate a leak in return lines

pool loses about half an inch a day. I have had a pressure test done and return lines do not hold pressure. Local companies charge about $500 to locate the leak electronically (repairs not included), which is just absurd. Do you know of any DIY ideas?

how to block Polaris wall outlet for pressure testing?

is this what you are referring to? https://www.homedepot.com/p/1-1-4-in-x-1-1-2-in-Rubber-Test-Ball-Plug-270016/100130312

how to block Polaris wall outlet for pressure testing?

problem is, the threaded universal wall fitting is buried in the pool wall- so I only have access to the quick-disconnect end. Basically, I need something like this: https://www.poolzoom.com/eyeball-fitting.html with no hole. I tried filling the hole with putty, but the whole eyeball pops out...

white particles in the hot tub

I didn't measure the calcium prior. I will do that next time Reading about the CSI, I realize there is another factor here: temperature. I have been keeping higher temperatures than I used to. That combined with a high pH may have been the curlpit (the ozonator is just a coincidence)

white particles in the hot tub

I misunderstood your question- I just flushed the water 6 weeks ago. No ahhsome

white particles in the hot tub

thanks all. Is Ahh-some effective for calcium scale? (assuming that's what I am dealing with here)

white particles in the hot tub

I used a whirpool cleaner product a year or two ago (had to remove the filter and all that). Did not see any scaling come loose

white particles in the hot tub

old cell is gone so not sure how it would get in? high calcium has not been an issue before. The current calcium level is very low, which makes me think something is solidifying all the water calcium. also the pH has been on the high side lately.

white particles in the hot tub

fiber glass portable spa. I'd say flakes with some thickness. Didn't cut any pipes- there was an old ozone generator already. just replaced it

white particles in the hot tub

does not crumble easily. Fizzles and dissolves in acid

white particles in the hot tub

6 weeks ago. I made sure to vacuum all the white stuff from the bottom

white particles in the hot tub

A few months ago I installed a new ozone generator. Since then there are heavy, white particles (size of kosher salt) at the bottom of the spa. I thought it would be gone by now but there is no reduction. Calcium level is 70ppm. Any ideas how to fix?

DE filter requires cleaning too often

thanks- I will do that and report. Soaking the grids in acid and TSP sounds like a huge pain- I may just order new grids if it comes to that.

DE filter requires cleaning too often

what I meant is that immediately after backwash (or full clean), the pressure is around 22psi (when I first got the filter, it was 20, so "clean" pressure has not changed much). Problem is, it raises very quickly after that to 27-28 psi (it used to take longer)

DE filter requires cleaning too often

I see. The clean pressure has gone up slightly over 3 years (maybe 2 psi) so it's probably not the grids....

DE filter requires cleaning too often

what do you mean by clean pressure? the polaris pressure goes down when filter pressure goes up.

DE filter requires cleaning too often

when I first got my DE filter, I could go 2-3 months before backwashing/cleaning. But nowadays (3 years later) I have to do it every 3-4 weeks (judging based on pressure gauge as well as loss of polaris power). Is there any reason filter would need cleaning more frequently than before? (I do...

    pool resurfacing question

my current marcite finish is peeling off- which means it is not adhered to the pool anymore. If they just put a new layer on top of it, would it not come off together? or would they grind away the existing marcite before resurfacing? (I don't think that would be common practice)

    how to raise TA quickly

I have been trying to raise TA from 30 to 80 by adding a couple of pounds of baking soda at a time- and it is progressing very slowly. I believe the reason they recommend not adding a lot is to keep the pH from raising up too high. Is there a way to raise TA more quickly? e.g. add a lot of...

TA drop after adding soda ash

in the past I have been using liquid chlorine and it has been stable- so I don't test that often (except for FC). Recently I had to use more tabs because of frequent travel. would you recommend adding a whole bunch of baking soda?? I have never seen the TA this low.

TA drop after adding soda ash

My pH was under 7, so I added 2-3 pounds of soda ash. The pH went up to 7.6- however the TA dropped from 80 to 30! does that make sense at all?

how to maintain chlorine in hot water

Maybe I exaggerated a little :) but I do feel the FC consumption goes up exponentially with temperature. I am talking about spa- so desired FC level is higher than pool. There is no CC present, filter is clean, water is clear. I shocked a few weeks ago when I put in fresh water.

how to maintain chlorine in hot water

I have noticed if I keep the temperature at 91, the chlorine will dissipate several times faster than 89. Is there a way to maintain FC a little longer? I know CYA protects against sunlight- not sure about heat though.

Hawyard DE filter: the air relief flex tube keeps breaking

I have replaced the tube once. Lowered the top of the filter slowly so it would not break the tube. Next time I removed the top, it was broken again! any idea why? It seems it is not flexible enough... this is the part I am talking about: Flex Air Relief Assembly | Hayward Residential and...
