How to blow out main drain attached to skimmer basket

Hi Folks: My 40 year old gunite poll will be closed this week. I've been thinking about attempting to do this myself. Despite my pool's size, I've got a pretty simple plumbing layout. I've got 2 return jets from the filter (no valve), and only 1 skimmer basket. The main drain at the...

LoopLoc Anchor Stuck in "Up" position.

UPDATE: Well, managed to get the anchor out today. The hardened steel 5/16th threaded rod did the trick!

LoopLoc Anchor Stuck in "Up" position.

Managed to get the 5/16 threaded rod out using a bolt extraction tool. Will try to get the entire anchor out again using a HARDENED 5/16 threaded rod.

LoopLoc Anchor Stuck in "Up" position.

Photos attached. You can see I’ve just soaked it in the Kano penetrating oil. And you can see the 5/16 threaded rod is sheared off inside I’ve managed to turn it 1/8th or a turn with my vice grips but have shredded it in the process. Worried I’m going to have nothing left. Any advice on how...

LoopLoc Anchor Stuck in "Up" position.

Thanks folks. WD-40 and the oil didn't work. I bought the drill, tap, threaded rod, nuts from the video on the right. Bolt sheared off inside the ancor when I tried to extract. NOW WHAT DO I DO? Can I use a crowbar?

LoopLoc Anchor Stuck in "Up" position.

Hi folks: I opened my pool for the first time by myself. Pretty easy, really. All went according to plan...EXCEPT one of the brass grommets used to hold my LoopLoc cover is completely seized in the "up" position. It won't budge in either direction. Completely seized. I've tried lubricating...

Worried water level too high during winter - risk of damage due to freezing?

Hi folks: I've got a 40 year old gunite, in ground pool. 32,000 gallons. Just finished our 3rd season in this house so still relatively a "pool newbie". Anyway, I hired my pool company to close my pool in October as usual. They typically do a decent job. Drain the water, blow out and...

What chemistry before closing inground pool

Love the SWG! Granted this is my first pool and we added the SWG, so I have nothing else to reference. My Apollo is great. Only small issues like it tends to corrode a bit with the salt. Thanks for the tips. Note I assume I have Borates of 15 and that changes some of the pool math...

What chemistry before closing inground pool

Hi folks: Well my 32,000 gallon Gunite pool is closing tomorrow. Pool store coming out to help (I still am hesitant to do it myself.) I've tried to follow the advice on here on what to do pre closing. My question is around CSI. The info on this site says I should have PH between 7.4 -...

    Antifreeze for skimmer basket?

Hello: I just closed my pool for the second time ever (or rather I had my pool store close it.) It rained a lot the week after closing and now I see there is 1-2" of water in my skimmer basket. I worry this will freeze. Do I have to put anti-freeze in the skimmer? If so, is there a product...

    CSI when Closing?

Yes...I haven't measured CYA in a while. I think its likely in the 50-60 range for a gunite pool with SWG. 32,000 gallons

    CSI when Closing?

Hi folks: Pool is closing today and I've followed the instructions in the "How To" section. I did a final test this AM. My results are: FC=17 (drifting down from SLAMing 2 days ago) PH = 7.8 CH = 400 TA = 70-75 Borates = 15? (I checked in June and haven't added any) Salt = 3000 Temp = 65...

UPDATE: Stain was organic. Once I slammed and ran my M-500 for 3-4 days it is pretty much gone! Thanks!

Large, black stain on pool floor after opening!

Hi folks: We opened up our pool today. 32K gallon Gunite, inground. I was pleased to see the water was pretty clear when we pulled back the LoopLock cover. Much much much cleaner than the green swamp we had last year when we opened! Overall the pool looks great and I've started my SLAM...

Do Loop Loc winter covers require more chemicals over winter?

Well, my pool is closed. Pool store guys came out and put in my brand new Loop Loc cover. The previous Loop Loc was 17 years old and beyond repair (thank you, previous owners, for not disclosing this when we bought the house. $$$$$) Anyway, I had the pool chemistry right where it was...

To Polyquat or not Polyquat before/during closing?

Thanks. Yes closing has to happen today as it is the only day the pool store is available to assist. (I want them to take ownership of blowing out the lines, etc.) Ok, I'll hold off adding Polyquat. Yes, I'm very surprised my FC is taking it's sweet time to drift down. Weather has been...

To Polyquat or not Polyquat before/during closing?

Hi folks: Closing my pool today for the first time (with the help of the pool store..GASP :) ) Anyway, thanks to folks here I've got my pool in pretty good shape. PH, TA, CH are all where they should be. I slammed the pool Friday night up to FC=28 (my CYA is 70 with a SWG in a gunite pool)...

First time closing: Do I need to purchase "winterization chemicals"?

My TA was 90 at the beginning of the season, and got down below 60 in early SEpt. I had to add Baking Soda to get it back up to 60. Regardless of where my TA was, my PH would rise weekly. I typically had to add 1-2 quarts of acid per week.

First time closing: Do I need to purchase "winterization chemicals"?

We are closing our pool on MOnday. Our Pool Store guys are coming out to do it as I've never done it before. They claim I need to purchase "Winterization chemicals" which include things like "Scale Inhibitors", etc. I've got a 32,000 gallon Gunite pool and use a SWG. Have been using the...
