    Tarp method in-place water replacement

Dtrav, good luck with it. The metal stains were something I battled for close to 7 years. In hindsight, I should have done it long ago. The good news is that my liner and fittings are still stain free. If I remember correctly, I did the water replacement after the July 4th weekend so it’s...

New Pool Light Burned Out immediately... I'm assuming it was my fault?

This may sound silly but here’s what I did when I replaced the expensive PCB board on my LED pool light. Of course, I bought a new replacement gasket but after putting everything back together, I let the pool light sink into the deep end of the pool and DID NOT turn it on for several hours. I...

    Tarp method in-place water replacement

When the pool was built the salt was added by the builder. I can’t remember what brand he used but his pool store sold AquaSalt. Over the years I mostly used AquaSalt but remember using Morton pool salt and maybe even the dreaded Clorox brand once.

    Tarp method in-place water replacement

Quick update to say there is no hint of metal stains after replacing the water. It’s been a full month since the water was replaced. I should have done this years ago. Iron stains started 7 years ago. The past 3 years were the worst. 3 years of having to add Metal Magic weekly only to see...

Any such thing as a liquid chlorine auto dispenser?

Look up a Stenner pump for liquid chlorine dispensing. For the chlorine adjustments, visit the pool math calculator. Scroll to the bottom and you’ll see where you can see the effects of adding any pool chemical based on the number of gallons entered at the top of the page...

    Algae possible?

https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/stains-in-your-pool/ Read the part about iron. Iron can precipitate and tint the color of the water.

    Advice on heating/cooling inground pool

One piece of advice. If you decide to go with either one, make sure that it gets plumbed in such a way that you can completely bypass the chiller/heater. I had this done after the fact and wish it had been done to begin with. With a gas heater, the copper exchanger is susceptible to...

    SWG and Iron Plumbing

Keep in mind that a zinc anode in your skimmer basket is pretty worthless. The anode should be in contact with the water as well your bonding grid if you’re trying to avoid galvanic corrosion. The anodes I use are attached to my metal pool ladder below the water line and of course, the ladder...

If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?

I would have opted for a variable speed pump. And although I like a cartridge filter over sand, I wish I had the cartridge filter drain plumbed in such a way to allow me to drain water from the pool. Right now, my cartridge filter drain port just has a solid cap on it.

    Algae possible?

I was thinking metals as well. My pool did this before after using powder shock. Water turned green but was perfectly clear. After adding a metal sequestrant, the green tint went away in about 30 minutes.

    Pool Filter Housing Leak

Probably not safe to repair. I wouldn’t want to take the chance it would really fail while out of town or something. I just replaced my Jandy cartridge Filter housing for the same reason.

    Calcium Hardness Problems

There’s no way your test is accurate. That’s over 350 lbs of calcium chloride in a 20k gallon pool. According to pool math calculator, adding that much calcium chloride to a 20k gallon pool should raise your calcium hardness by 1909!!

    Hard to unscrew filter housing

Silicon spray also works great on the retaining ring threads of my cartridge filter. And by that, I mean, put silicon spray on the threads and ring the next time you remove it. It will make putting it back on much easier as well as future removal.

Liner installation underway - should I worry?

That's probably a good thing. It implies that once the water stretches the liner against the walls, your wrinkles should go away.

Liner installation underway - should I worry?

Maybe its nothing and once enough water is added, it will stretch out the wrinkles but I think I would have also stopped the filling until the contractor can take a look tomorrow.

What Now? White Cloud After Addition of Chlorine

Yes, sorry. I only did that in the video to make it easier to collect the cloudy water. I normally add the chlorine directly to the pool water.

Help! I have a few spots of green algae beginning to form on walls, but just did AA treatment 1 week ago!

Maybe add some Polyquat 60 to keep new algae from growing. Did you add any Polyquat while doing the AA treatment? It's recommended since the AA treatment wipes out all the chlorine.

Liner installation underway - should I worry?

You may want to stop filling it in case they need to jump in there to move the liner around. Once you get so much water in there, it will be near impossible to get the liner to move due to the weight of the water.

Inground pool coping separating, lifting from pool

I had a section of pool deck that was raising from the pool. What was really happening was that the back of the pool deck was settling/sinking and lifting the opposite end. I ended up having a foundation repair company come and they fixed it. It's perfectly level now.
