Good job. I'm not sure if it applies in this case, but when tiling, any change of plane should be caulked, not grouted. Seems to me it should have been caulked all along.

Poolside Planters - show them off!

Man, I didn't know that. I'm in zone 8a in SE VA. It doesn't get "that" cold here compared to some places, but we can touch the teens every once in awhile. I've always thrown them out since I thought they were dead. No clue they would sprout back. Thanks!

Poolside Planters - show them off!

Interesting. I've had Sagos before, but they hate the old and would die at the first frost

no way?? I have always bought the clorox salt from lowes. I wonder if that's why I had a weird yellow/orange discoloration on my steps

    Redneck Evaporative Pool Cooler

Thanks for that. I live in SEVA so it is definitely humid. I think the pool temp is currently around 92, which is borderline uncomfortable to me.

    Redneck Evaporative Pool Cooler

This is new to me. So by simply modifying the eyeball return to make a makeshift mist/fountain of sorts will cool the pool? What is the mechanism behind the cooling?

What the heck do you do with your solar cover?

same thing happened to us, which is why I made my DIY solar roller. For what it's worth, our lawn recovered though.

Pool Fence DIY vs DIY Pool Fence?

So I'm looking at fences and want to install myself. I'm considering these two brands and was wondering if there is any significant difference between the two. Both price out extremely similiar, both seem to have the same construction and features. Can anyone speak to the customer support of...

What the heck do you do with your solar cover?

Sure. here you go. it's a little mickey mouse, but it works well and wasn't $200.

What the heck do you do with your solar cover?

I made a DIY version of the one listed above for about $30 bucks in PVC and some stainless screws. my cover is split in two due to the length of the pool, so i have two rollers and i just twist each half on itself to roll them up. I killed a large section of grass just dragging the cover out...

Air bubbles during startup after pump is off after awhile?

I'll have to check, I seem to remember seeing a fine mist of bubbles when looking at the jets underwater, but that was last year.

Air bubbles during startup after pump is off after awhile?

I've never thought to look for that. will report back in the AM. In other news, my small dribble leak at the pump discharge port is back :(

Air bubbles during startup after pump is off after awhile?

You can see small swirls against the lid. Does that indicate air? I thought it was normal to have a little.

Air bubbles during startup after pump is off after awhile?

Thanks. I don't see any leaks on the suction side but I used to have a tiny leak on the pressure side right at the pump housing. It's since disappeared when I cleaned the filter. Is it normal for these pumps to have to prime every time they start?

Air bubbles during startup after pump is off after awhile?

So if my pump is off for a period of time and I turn it back on, I can see and hear air being cleared by the jets. I'm assuming there is a slow air leak somewhere, but I don't see any obvious leaks from the plumbing anywhere. I do hear a sucking/sipping noise from the multiport valve and...

    Replacement for AO Smith B228SE

Oh I didn't know that. So I would need to know how many gallons my pool is to make sure it is sized appropriately, correct? Is there an easy way to calculate for a peanut shaped pool?

    Replacement for AO Smith B228SE

sorry one more question. It's probably obvious, but I just want to make sure I understand what you're suggesting with your pump/impeller recommendations. When you mentioned the 3/4 hp motor with a different impeller, is that in an effort to lower energy consumption with a smaller motor, but...

    Replacement for AO Smith B228SE

Thanks for that. Sorry, the pump is a Hayward Superpump. It don't know exactly what my pump is drawing in electricity, but last fall when we didn't run the A/C, my power bill was $115 running the pool 8 hours a day. I'm guessing we have inexpensive electricity in the area (about 2.1cents per...

    Replacement for AO Smith B228SE

The bearings in my motor went recently and the after removing the motor, and seeing how rusted out the case is, I'm just going to replace the motor instead of the bearings. Is AO Smith now owned by Century? If so, is this the correct motor: Century A.O. Smith UST1102 56J C-Face 1 HP Single...
