I won't put much stress on a pump if that's what you asking. It's probably the same as running slightly dirty filter. The only thing is, your flow might be too high and it might blow it off. You can try women knee high socks if you have any. I have 2 speed pump and I normally have it running on...

Your eyeball return have a front plate that you can unscrew (counterclockwise) and remove temporarily along with eyeball. You should be able to secure sock to exposed threads with zip ties or nylon string or something like that. Another option, if you have flexible outlet hose from your filter...

Tracy, I'm so happy for you! You made it thru the whole ordeal and reclaim your pool! As for your questions: - pucks are best to use when you can't do liquid chlorine (vacation, out of town, etc.) - put a sock over your return to find out if sand is coming out your filter. It's possible that...

    Mustard algae questions...

Hi Beth Check this Pool School guide - Mustard Algae Most of your questions are answered there. Regarding pool robot, I don't know what type of robot you have but if it's anything like popular Polaris, I would use it. My take is - any extra brushing/scrubbing is definitely beneficial especially...

You are correct! I never checked my logs and I just did. My logs are also shifted 5 hours. So I guess if it's consistent across the board it's OK for now.

I'm not sure how app could do it by default but when you about to add log, in a top portion of that window there is date and time you can adjust. It gets auto populated for me correctly, and I can adjusted manually but have no idea why it would do that for you automatically. As a workaround, you...

    Another day, another SLAM

You might want to check if the algae you are battling might be mustard algae. One of it trademarks is the fact that it would disapear at SLAM level but comes back as FC start to drift down. If you haven't already check this guide - Mustard Algae

Tracey, I noticed your logs are posting with time +5 hours into the future. Looks like you have wrong time set on whatever device you use for PoolMath app. You might want to fix that as it might be very misleading for someone trying to analyze your logs.

Tracey, thank you for following my suggestions. It didn't produce results I was hoping to see - mainly reduced chlorine consumption. I think it might be a good sign though. I think the fact that you can hold chlorine overnight but it drops rapidly afternoon is no longer due to algae. I think...

    Mustard Algae Question

If you suspect you had mustard algae, did you do successful SLAM followed by increased FC to mustard algae level for 24 hours, followed by keeping your FC at or even slightly above top FC value for your CYA for a few weeks?

    Yellow/Mustard Algae?

SLAMming a green swamp, but with complications

I haven’t seen any number for pH or TA but TA won’t affect water clarity and pH gave you weird color because that high chlorine concentration actually oxidized pH pigment. Your actual pH is probably a little higher than what it was before SLAM but you can’t test it before FC falls under 10

    Doing SLAM on algae

I think you got K-2006, not K-2006(c). It is basically a smaller copy, so much less reagent. During SLAM, do 10 ml sample instead of 25 ml. Back to your SLAM question, you can't move to OCLT unless water is clear.

SLAMming a green swamp, but with complications

You are not done yet. Water must be clear. Only then you can see if you passed the other 2 criteria: CC equal or lower than 0.5 ppm and pass OCLT.

Tracey, one more suggestion if I may. I checked your logs and it looks like you don't have much chlorine consumption until about 5 pm. Then it takes a huge drop in next few hours. It might be one of the reasons your SLAM drags a long time. If you can, test and replenish chlorine every hour from...

Tracey, I just realized your pool was previously PermaSalt pool. Although I’m not familiar with this system, I did quick search and it looks like a quite nasty system that will create many problems. It introduces copper, clarifier, some enzyme and would drive CYA sky high. I know you replaced...

    Black algae problem

I understand completely that test kit might seem like a waste of money if you can get test strips for a fraction of the cost. However there is really not a way around it, because test strips aren't that accurate, but more important can't test past 10 ppm FC. Take a look at this chart Chlorine /...

Pool went green while on vacay

Are you referring to addition of stabilizer (CYA)? If so we use a method where a clean sock is filled with proper amount of stabilizer and tied to hang in front of return in a stream of water.

    Black algae problem

I think you never completely eradicated your algae bloom you had when pool was opened. "Shocking" is not enough to kill algae. We use process called SLAM. We can guide you thru but in order to successfully perform SLAM you need to be able to test your water frequently. There are only 2 test kits...

    Another day, another SLAM

Lorri, you might want to rethink your filter swap. Sand filters are generally at the bottom of filtration capability with cartridge filters in the middle and DE filters at the top. It seems to me you will actually be downgrading on your filter. You might want to just get a new pump.

    Green water- Iron? Algae?

Clear green water and yellow paper towel point to iron. Sorry, I don't have first hand experience dealing with iron but from what I seen people reported success with using polyfill to filter iron out.

Middle of Slam - First time testing FAS-DPD

Amy Since your SLAM FC target is so high, switch to 5 ml test sample, one spoon of powder and then 1 drop = 1 ppm You will loose some precision but for SLAM it's good enough. Otherwise you will burn thru your drops really fast.

First SLAM - question about pump speed and runtime

It's more for the reason that your SWCG won't be masking your chlorine usage. It's especially important by the end of a SLAM while doing OCLT test. Running SWCG can easily gave false pass result.

    Unusual Algae - Please help

GuRC, Sorry to be blunt but NO, you never got rid of your algae in a first place. You were under SLAM, couldn't hold chlorine and decided to dump in algaecide and call it a day. It doesn't work that way, algaecide is designed to prevent outbreak, not to fix it. Not only you never solved your...

Tracey, I saw you have a robot on your picture with chlorine boxes. Are you using it during SLAM? It looks very similar to the one I have. Hi chubrok! Nice to see more people with pools in the neighborhood. Let me know if you going to need a hand with something. Whatever it is in your water, chlorine will burn thru it. Just make sure you keep your FC at SLAM level as much as practical. Remeber that you will always loose some FC...

First time SLAM and very impatient wife!!!

Did you recently add any product other than bleach to your pool, i.e. algaecide? If your CYA is 40, than your SLAM target is 16 FC. After you test in the morning, do you bring FC back to 16? How much FC you are loosing from 5am to 10pm? EDIT: Just checked your logs. Seems like you been battling...

Pool was clear then cloudy after vacuum

You are doing everything correctly. I think it means you have a suction line leak somewhere and air slowly build up in a filter. Open up a valve a day or two later to see if more air escapes.
