    No Cell Power 2?

Thank you Allen @ajw22. You were right: re-soldering that particular connection has the board operational again. For the future... I think I will eventually need to replace one or more of the 6 plastic 'posts' that clip into the board and hold it to the board mount, and one of the 4 taller...

    No Cell Power 2?

I will try just re-soldering for now... But what about my fuse question? Should I replace the 20A fuse with a 15A fuse to prevent this from happening in the future? Or is that a misguided idea (I read it somewhere else...)?

    No Cell Power 2?

Do I have to replace the relay that is connected to the bad joint, or just re-solder the joint?

    No Cell Power 2?

I'm sorry, I now realize you were talking about the component opposite the failed solder joint... I thought I just needed to re-solder it... Are you saying the relay MUST ALSO be replaced for it to work again? Or that I could try it first just re-soldered?

    No Cell Power 2?

Could you please elaborate? What and where exactly is the 'relay' you are referring to? I am very inexperienced with working 'under the hood'

    No Cell Power 2?

If it is, it is VERY VERY slight... Do you still think it needs replacing?

    No Cell Power 2?

You were right James--one bad solder joint. This is the second board this has happened to (I'm replacing this with my first one repaired). Would you recommend I replace the 20A fuse with a 15A fuse so that the fuse gets blown next time instead? (I read that somewhere as an idea.)

    No Cell Power 2?

Is it possible that the actual cell is just dead/done? No way to diagnose which it is--the board or cell--without taking them out?

    No Cell Power 2?

I've never soldered before... Any particular YouTube you could direct me to for this?

    No Cell Power 2?

I replaced this circuit board with a new one, but seems like it might be repairable for future use? There is just one 'burnt' location... (see photos)

Is there a way to diagnose what is wrong without taking the circuit board out? I have a voltimeter...

determining SWG cell function from Diagnostic Menu

After doing more research elsewhere, I called Hayward and they suspected that the cell was failing. Still barely under warranty, they sent someone out who replaced it with a new one, and voila--the cell now tells me I've got 3900ppm of salt in my water (more than 1000 higher than the failing...

BROWN salt cell chlorine generator! PLEASE HELP!

After doing more research elsewhere, and before reading the latest post above, I called Hayward and it seemed to them that the cell was failing. Still barely under warranty, they sent someone out who replaced it with a new one, and voila--the cell now tells me I've got 3900ppm of salt in my...

BROWN salt cell chlorine generator! PLEASE HELP!

Wow, "y_not", that is way above my level of DIY! (Would Google Translate help me with that too??) Just so you know, my ProLogic display gives me "normal" readings for the cell. For example: -25.12V -6.81A 85 degrees F 3000 PPM Are you familiar with how these work? Would the "test" at the...

BROWN salt cell chlorine generator! PLEASE HELP!

We are not on a well. I cleaned it (the brown stuff flaked off pretty easily in the acid), but it didn't seem to change it's performance, nor any of the numbers on the display. What now?

determining SWG cell function from Diagnostic Menu

I'm not able to maintain a FC level of 4 using Super Chlor (100%) running all day long (12 hours), so am supplementing with bleach. On another note, as mentioned in another post, I have never been able to maintain an adequate CYA level. It seems to drop from 50 down to 30 relatively quickly...

Shock took 5 days. Did oclt a few ago. Should i take to 10ppm and do again? What about the insignificant FC diff between pool and return?

I recently shocked and passed tests. Can i do the oclt test w/o shocking?

determining SWG cell function from Diagnostic Menu

Recommended is 2700-3400 for unit. Have not tested myself, but pool store just said 4000! I've always trusted the Pro-Logic unit to give me an accurate measure (as it won't work if it's either too low or too high in it's opinion). Could this be influenced by a failing cell? Older cell? If...

BROWN salt cell chlorine generator! PLEASE HELP!

Thank you again "y_not". But what am I looking for? Will the directions tell me what is too high for a pool or SWCG? And if too high, how do I treat for it? I'm still looking for some information on determining whether or not I just need to replace my SWCG. It seems to be producing no, or...

BROWN salt cell chlorine generator! PLEASE HELP!

Do you mean rust accumulated on the salt cell? Or just rust in the water reduces chlorine? Is this the reason that the chlorine output of the SWCG has decreased over time, and that it should be improved after cleaning? If it's just rust in the water, is there any way to test or treat for it?

BROWN salt cell chlorine generator! PLEASE HELP!

Thank you "y_not"! The stain is only downstream, therefore localized to cell. I'm guessing you might be right about the high iron content in our water. Is there a way to test for and/or reduce that? And will soaking it be enough? Should I brush/scrub between the fins somehow? And do you...

BROWN salt cell chlorine generator! PLEASE HELP!

[attachment=0:37qot9g9]salt cell.jpg[/attachment:37qot9g9] I've noticed my chlorine output has been very low lately, and upon inspecting cell I see that the exit side is coated brown, along with some of the pvc that follows. I can scratch it off with my fingernail with some effort from the PVC...

    Burned salt cell

I've been having the same problem, and my cell is also coated brown--I can scratch it off with my fingernail near where I can reach. Is this affecting it's ability to produce chlorine? How do I clean it??

determining SWG cell function from Diagnostic Menu

Thank you Jason! But I have 2 clarifying questions: How does the cell do that exactly? Turn on and off? If so, how often? On what kind of schedule? How much "higher" should the FC from the return than from the bulk be approximately? Mine is pretty close, within .5ppm?

determining SWG cell function from Diagnostic Menu

My FC has been dropping abnormally lately. Having had experience with mustard algae, this seems different. My SWG cell is 3 years old, and presently set to 80%. Can I determine whether or not it is functioning correctly from these numbers given in the Diagnostic section of my Hayward ProLogic...

sunshine pool products - combining SWG w/ ionizer

Does anyone have any experience with the PURITY salt water generator sold by SUNSHINE POOL PRODUCTS(www.awesomepoolproducts.com)? I like the idea of the combo SWG and ionizer that they sell, claiming it should allow the user to reduce the FC to .2ppm. Yes, I understand the problem of using...
