Help! Pipes and equipment might freeze

Thanks for the advice. I think it made it through the night okay and I've found a company to come out and blow the lines today

Help! Pipes and equipment might freeze

We tried to blow the lines with a leaf blower but it wasn't powerful enough to get all the water up and over the skimmer. Should I run to the hardware store and get some pool antifreeze to pour in the skimmer line?

Help! Pipes and equipment might freeze

I am finally closing my pool after giving up on a safety cover and buying a tarp. My pool builder was supposed to close it today so I drained the water down. Well, he no showed and isn't responding. I suppose I should have expected this given my past experience with them. It is supposed to get...

White film on sides - algae, calcium or bacteria?

My fiberglass manufacturer recommends a minimum of 350 ppm calcium hardness otherwise the water can leach calcium out of your coating. Are you able to take a water sample to a pool store to test for that if you don't have a test kit?

Help with pool SLAM and green water!

Is it possible that you have high copper levels? Copper will turn green when oxidized (i.e. when shocking)

    Liquid chlorine vs tabs

The pucks may work for now but your CYA will continue to increase and then you will need higher and higher chlorine levels to get the same result. As for copper, that will build up as well and you will end up with staining or green hair. The only way to lower the level will be to drain and...

Why do they not make winter covers with drains?

I am referring to a safety cover which doesn't sit on the water. The water level can sit 18 inches below the cover

    Solar Cover in the Winter

Won't the cover get slimey when its rolled and covered all winter, or do the cold Temps prevent that? I won't be able to get the dry before storing because It will be cold and snowing at that time

    Closing below freezing

Thanks. I think i turn the heater off and just keep the pump running until I close. With the solar blanket on at night and Temps above freezing in the day I'm thinking it will be okay for the next couple of weeks.

Why do they not make winter covers with drains?

I plan to pump off the cover too so only a portion will drain into the pool. Im told we get too much snow for a solid cover to hold so if you go that route you have a lot of snow shoveling to do!

    Closing below freezing

Yes, I'm not looking forward to that. Even at 7 degrees now I'm dreading pool maintenance. Do you think a tarp with weights on the deck would work? I'm worried it will be a soaked leaf covered mess that will be hard to get off...

    Closing below freezing

Thanks for the heads up- I definitely don't want to damage the heater. I have a Hayward H-series 150 BTU and I've currently got it set to 65 with the pump running continuously and a solar blanket on. The temperature is above freezing now but by the time I am closing it will definitely be going...

    Turned green fast

Are you using a salt generator? As soon as I turned the temp on my heater down to minimum my salt generator stopped producing anything, even though it is above the minimum temp for it to function. Another possibility is the fact that chlorine is much less effective at lower temperatures so it...

    Closing below freezing

This year will be my first close. I am waiting on a winter cover that will like arrive in early November. I live in Canada, and it is likely going to be around-5 Celsius when I close. I have a gas heater so I can keep that on intermittently to prevent it from freezing, but I'm concerned that...

Why do they not make winter covers with drains?

I bought a solid with a mesh centre strip drain. It is a GLI Hyperlite. It was really hard to find! Everyone wanted to sell me a mesh, but since my yard is filled with trees I really wanted this one. They dont sell direct to consumers though so you have to find a dealer.

    Winter safety cover sizing

I have had an impossible time getting a custom winter cover. Apparently pool companies around here are too busy to want my business. Ive been trying to get one since August and it is time to close as I'm in Canada. My fiberglass pool measures 11' 8" x 22' 2". The smallest stock winter cover is...

Mud leaking into pool at top seam between pool shell and deck

I am not an expert on the subject but I was searching for answers to my own issue (rebar severed and rusting in the concrete deck saw cuts) and saw a recommendation to add DAP silicone for concrete and mortar to the expansion joint under the coping to prevent debris from getting in the pool...

Do I need to drain my pool?

I drained with the tarp method and it worked very well. If you do that you won't have to worry about dropping the water level and wrecking your pool. You have to purchase a very large tarp (big enough to completely line the pool like a liner with a few feet extra on each side so it overhangs). I...
