Thank you TFP! New Pool Install 2020

I enjoyed the account of your progress. So glad you and kids can enjoy the water- makes it all the better after hard work and overcoming problems! A good temporary fix until you decide on back-fill might be pine straw... however, I have a feeling you already have a plan :)

Guess who starts a SLAM tomorrow?

We, (pup & I) were wondering about your progress and I hope to we never need to need SLAM! From past experience with SWG's , I hope it's working OK and not a culprit in algae.

    Aggressive Frogs in AGP!

Oh my, your comment brought back memories from when I had IG, 20,000 gal vinyl pool with steps in back yard. Never recalled frog issues but in skimmer occasionally had voles, chipmunks, snakes, the very worst was huge gopher rat- I had to call on friend to remove because it was too gross for me...

    Aggressive Frogs in AGP!

This thread is very informational and entertaining!!!! .... however I don't have frog problem. I like the rodeo relocation suggestion best and I'm hoping, at least, you have zero mosquito/gnat problems unless they are on frog vacation at your "resort" :)

Pool companies telling me I don't want salt water pool

Now I do recall bubbling but not checking daily when I did have SWG- Good point! Delighted you rescue the frogs!!! ....here I count on them to capture the pesky mosquitoes- worms and spiders good for other things like compost and random flowers (picture attached) as pools and flowers just mix...

Pool companies telling me I don't want salt water pool

Per Dirk: "My gripe is the warranty structure. An SWG isn't a machine with replaceable/repairable parts that could maybe last for decades (for the most part). It's a commodity. It's expendable. It's disposable." I agree that when a SWG works, it's great and very low maintenance as far as zero...

Pool companies telling me I don't want salt water pool

Sorry that my message was unclear: Yes salt is inexpensive and really only needed as one time addition unless a lot of rain with a SWG Chlorine pool is adding every day- Thanks for pointing out difference.

Pool companies telling me I don't want salt water pool

per Rossterman: "In the earlier days of swgs reliability was a concern. I ended up replacing my jandy aquapure complete system every 3 years due to various pc board and cell failures. About 6 years ago, jandy did a significant redesign and that system has been trouble-free. All the major brands...

Pool companies telling me I don't want salt water pool

Salt is definitely inexpensive. I bought bags at Lowes. But honestly, daily checks are still necessary along with adjusting the SWG, based on timer, bather load, and weather-temp and rainfall Again, it's about preference- I just prefer simpler maintenance ,timed pump, liquid chlorine, daily...

Pool companies telling me I don't want salt water pool

You should go with what you feel best about- both have their pros and cons- I had only chlorine with in ground (now filled in), then salt water/chlorine with above ground. The salt water generator was short lived, I think just because of more components although very intriguing with separating...

    Economy CYA and Borate test?

Thanks- I'll check in to HTH test kit for CYA as that's what I now use for testing chlorine, PH and TA. In the mean time, I decided to add NaHCO3 to raise PH and TA based on the pool calculator numbers. Funny that I had in-ground pool (now filled in) for 20 years in backyard when kids were...

    Economy CYA and Borate test?

I have a a very small AGP (1800gal) and added 20 mule team borax/ muratic acid when I started pool in June using pool calculator. Also, used triclor tabs occasionally at start. I test water daily for FC, RC and PH- all good; Also test TA weekly (adjusted with baking soda). The water has looked...

Dog Ramp for Vinyl Pool & No Deck

These are old pictures and ramp but it worked well for 2, 40lb Aussies- wood ramp covered with rubber matting on outside, old diving board in pool, used noodle foam at base to protect liner.

    Need a new pool pump

Have AGP now but used to have IGP out back that's since filled in. I had hayward, (wired 210) pump- replaced once after 10 years for 20 year IGP. Now, have Harris 3/4 hp for AGP replaced 1 year after "new" intex pump quit. It's great! Water best ever, even with this crazy hot weather. I do...

He’s just smart to figure things out like balancing on rails- honestly, you and your dog might enjoy some sort of activity like maybe even dog tricks- you could start by giving verbal command for frame walking - google Skid Boots to learn more about trick dogs; way off topic from TFP but my dogs...

    Golden Retriever Is Here

I used old IG diving board from previous pool ramp (in attached picture with my Aussie) when I added back my small AGP. This year, I made a new ramp with PVC, patio paver and floor mat (ramp is in my pool link picture). The dogs don't like the new ramp nearly as well - It's flimsy compared to...

Bleach( liquid from Home Depot), baking soda( for alkalinity) , borax ( 20 mule team from grocery store and Muratic acid (Home Depot). Look at pool calculator to see how much to add. Low flow Intex sand filter pump

Hate to say but my "new" intex pump was dead after only 1 season- I''ve had them along the way since having AGP's last 10 years but they've usually lasted 5+years. When I took Intex Pump to have checked, all said was "it's junk" and it was the second one he'd seen that day. I did call Intex re...
