Will this approach winterize our pool ?

Hi again......power failure is more likely in our area than a pump failure. Probably a good idea to buy and store away another pump/motor....just in case. Ours is 230V. So, my next brilliant idea is to build a large, well insulated, cardboard box, big enough to encapsulate the filter tank and...

Will this approach winterize our pool ?

Hi Allen, yes, pump runs OK and lots of water out of the 2 return jets. Upon further reflection....this may not be the EZ solution I had hoped for. Lots of fir trees close to the pool. Skimmer helps a lot. So for now.....I keep things as they are until weather forecast is for high 20's and...

Will this approach winterize our pool ?

In ground pool in Southern Oregon: I have in the past... kept the water level high and done nothing but use a freeze control on our circulation pump timer....to keep the water from freezing. I thought, this year, to lower the water level below the skimmer....close off the diverter valve in the...

How can I use dye to check bottom main drain....for leak ?

Hi again Pat......used a long piece of drip tubing attached to a weight to place it next to main drain. Added food dye and blew it towards drain. Nothing obvious. Might have used too much. Did you dilute your dye ? Also crawled around pool and squirted dye close to tiles....pool level was up...

How can I use dye to check bottom main drain....for leak ?

Hi Dave S....Yes, I agree and have been putting it off for some unknown reason.....but I will do this. Eventually. Hi Pat......that is a great idea. Forget the cinder block.

How can I use dye to check bottom main drain....for leak ?

Thanks, I have filled pool to top of tiles and plan to check soon. So....do the dye drops go on top of the water to drift where they may....or do drops get squeezed under water ? PS: Water temps have been in the mid 70's for 2 months. And I am buying a cinder block today.

How can I use dye to check bottom main drain....for leak ?

Pat......Yes a cinder block would be better than the 10# dumbell I used to no avail. Dave S......I have been using another method, other than the 24 hr bucket test: Each day at 0800 I open the skimmer lid and use a ruler, both inches and cm, and measure depth from a known mark in the skimmer...

How can I use dye to check bottom main drain....for leak ?

Been losing 1/2 inch, occasionally 3/4 inch leak in our 15K gallon in-ground pool. Used dye around skimmer, return jets, light, Polaris connection. Nothing. Tried main drain today, but I could not get down easily to squirt dye. Kept floating up and disturbing water/dye. Do I need a weighted...

In ground incandescent pool light burns out....every 12 to 18 months

Incandescent light bulb replaced as per the past. I read on another forum today that a pool owner put a dimmer on his light...dimmed it down 10% and it lasted twice as long. Does anyone have a method for me...or an electrician, to interpose a dimmer switch? TIA.

10-4. I don't do the job. Local does it @ $85 visit. I watched him do it twice. Not easy for a dunce like me. Gasket and screw adjustment tricks not for me.

In ground incandescent pool light burns out....every 12 to 18 months

Thank you for the info. I seem to dimly recall (pun) asking techs 3-4 years ago about LED bulbs and being told there were in the $150 range and not bright enough.... and that is why I chose incandescent. So now I see a $60 LED bulb on Amazon: Happox, 50w, 5000 lumens, 6000 kelvins, OSRAM...

In ground incandescent pool light burns out....every 12 to 18 months

Pool tech is coming to replace. He said there is probably an electrical issue as light should last longer. Our light is the $20, 500 watt type. It is on a timer and runs about 8 pm to 10 pm and 4 am to 7 am, seven days. 1825 hours/year. So....is that about the life span for this bulb ...

    Cordless/battery powered robot?

I had come across a reference to the Hayward AquaVac 250. Cordless, battery powered robot. I am too inept to post a live link or pics.... (I was born in 1939). Any help would be appreciated.

Help me buy a cordless robot pool cleaner....please !

I came across the Hayward AquaVac 250 yesterday on their website or on another supplier website. About $400. Think they make a #650 for more $$. I need to do more research.......

Help me buy a cordless robot pool cleaner....please !

Our 2006 Pentair Legend is on her last legs. I started going thru the threads but have problems sorting out corded vs. battery powered units mentioned. Probably they are in the $500+ range. Would like a 2 hour run time and one that will climb walls. This is a 16x32, 5 foot deep, in-ground...

    Polaris spins on itself

I had this problem with our 2006 Pentair Legend LL105. I fooled with the floats as shown in the literature to no avail. I finally removed all the floats I could get at.....put on new swivels and......started placing and taping on the the hose.....three to six inch cut up pieces of pool...

Pentair Legend LL 105G needs some help and parts recommendations......

Hi ajw.....yes, a robot had crossed my mind. I saw ad for AquaVac 250 Li and it seems reasonably priced and would work on our small 16x32, max 5 foot deep pool. Don't think it will go up a wall....or will it ? Is this a good place to discuss robot cleaners ? Thank you.

Pentair Legend LL 105G needs some help and parts recommendations......

Greetings from Oregon. Bought this new in 2006. Serial# 007124. Works pretty good, until lately. Started to go in circles and staying only in half the pool. Got some new wheel covers as originals were worn. Helped a little, but still going in circles. My inspection revealed that one drive...

How to convert swivel cuff hose to threaded PVC ?

Thanks for the replies. I was using a flat discharge hose. They leak and split. Water out looks like 50 gpm on high pump speed. Pool store told me ribbed vacuum hose will not stand up. Did not think about back washing using low pump speed. Think it will be OK and will the grids come clean...

How to convert swivel cuff hose to threaded PVC ?

I'm baaaack. Went to local pool service/supply and talked about this. The swivel cuff vacuum hose was deemed inadequate for backwashing. It would leak or split. Maybe some hefty flex hose from hardware store is what I need. Can find an insert threaded fitting and use a hose clamp or two. ?

How to convert swivel cuff hose to threaded PVC ?

Greetings. Been using the flat, roll out hose for back washing for years. It kinks, splits and is a hassle in a lot of ways. I wanted to cut the 2 inch PVC coming out of the filter and glue in either a male or female, 1 - 1/2 inch threaded fitting. Next, buy and connect a 25-30 foot flex...

120v....incandescent......Amerlite Underwater Light....says old safety instructions, but no part# or model#. Not sure how old. Local tech thinks, without seeing, that housing is warped and has leaked. Wants $350 plus install for new unit. I can buy one online for about 1/2...but he won't...
