Taylor vs Blue Devil CYA testing

I have both and compared the results last weekend. Got about the same (~30) for both.

new SWG, different results using different tests

Also, how would u read the salt test result in the picture I posted? 6.0? 6.8?

new SWG, different results using different tests

Yeah, the results I'm getting with the k1766 are consistent but are not corresponding with other test methods. I added another bag of salt and the lights on the swg went off so I guess its happy.

new SWG, different results using different tests

I measured before adding salt and got 1000, but now I'm questioning if that was accurate

new SWG, different results using different tests

Thanks, mknauss. Is there something I'm missing with the k1766 test? I don't think that I'm overtitrating. Anyone else have trouble getting an accurate value?

new SWG, different results using different tests

I had a Hayward Aquarite with t-15 cell installed yesterday. Pool is 15000 gal so per pool math we needed ~400 lbs of NaCL. We added 320 lbs yesterday to avoid overshooting. Per pool math, that should get us to ~2600. Aquarite reads 2600 with lights on "check cell" and "check salt" lights...

Dolphin cleaners work while automatic pool cover is closed?

I have an autocover and a dolphin. I usually open the pool while the dolphin is running so that it cleans the sides above the waterline. I have run it with the cover closed and it worked fine, but I don't think it gets the sides as well. It also helps to air out the pool every few days to...

    SWG vs stenner pump questions

Thanks for the replay @bmoreswim . Any corrosion along the rail itself? Also.... sealing? Does the vinyl require periodic sealing?

    SWG vs stenner pump questions

I've read most of the posts regarding SWG and stenner chlorine pumps, but have a few questions before I pull the trigger. Right now, I'm adding liquid chlorine, but would like to make the process more automated. I'm leaning towards a SWG but I'm concerned about corrosion to my autocover. It's...

    Skimmer weir fail

yes! this happened to me too, also with a Hayward weir. very annoying because it would suck a lot of air into the filter until i manually opened it. I "fixed" it by gluing one of my son's legos to the top of the skimmer so the door can't close all the way.

    Where's the chlorine going?

That is really gross. No autofill for me. Nothing beside the usual plant matter in the skimmer and filter baskets. I check them pretty frequently. Maybe I'll take apart the filter instead of just backwashing it. I did open it up before I opened the pool and it was clean. Thanks.

    Where's the chlorine going?

Thanks for the reply. Do we have to wait until the SLAM is completed to swim in it? If I let the FC level drift down overnight to below SLAM level during the day, is it OK to swim or should I just keep the FC above SLAM level 24/7?

    Where's the chlorine going?

another question... We've had the heater on (temp 87-88 F). Could the (admittedly warm) water be consuming chlorine more quickly?

    Where's the chlorine going?

First full year managing our pool. I opened my pool on 6/1. It was a bit cloudy, but cleared up in 1 day with shocking and vacuuming. I backwashed the filter after vacuuming.. The pool has been crystal clear since then and the CC has been <0.5. I forgot about the OCLT in the excitement of...

why is free chlorine recommendation higher with TFP experts?

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. I like seeing the science underlying the recommendations.

why is free chlorine recommendation higher with TFP experts?

I'm not trying question any of the experts on this site; I've found this site to be incredibly helpful when opening my pool this year. However, most of the guidelines I've read suggest keeping the free chlorine level at 1-3 ppm. The CYA chart on TFP has much higher FC level recommendations...

Any problem with keeping pool covered most of the time?

Rocket, is it harder to keep the pH from going low by keeping the autocover on most of the time? My understanding is that the C02 needs to offgas in order to keep the pH from dropping. The cover prevents the usual amount of aeration.

Any problem with keeping pool covered most of the time?

Hi, new to the forum. I bought a house with an in-ground pool late last summer so I didn't have to do do much maintenance. Managed to keep it algae free despite not having any idea what I was doing. However, I was using way too much trichlor. pH kept dropping and I couldn't find a reason why...
