    Calcium Hardness test failure

Thank you for your guidance. I have no idea why it didn't change colors initially. It could be an error on my part.

    Calcium Hardness test failure

Thank you. I tested tap water as advised. It took 4 drops of R-0012 in 10 ml of water for it to turn from light pink to light blue. After confirming the reagents are working, I diluted 12 ml of pool water with 12 ml of distilled water and repeated the test. The color turned light blue after 19...

    Calcium Hardness test failure

I've been working on cleaning and balancing our in-ground pool after 5 weeks of absence. It's clean but not balanced. I added a whole gallon of Muriatic Acid last week and pH is still out of range. Currently it is undergoing Shock treatment and here are the test results: pH: 8.2+ (don't have a...

    Fixing a neglected pool's chemistry

Thanks for pointing out. Didn't think about the aeration affect of daily hot tub discharge to the pool on pH rise. I've diverted most of the daily pump output directly to the pool. Overnight drop of FC was 2 (from 11 to 9). I added another half gallon of 34% Muriatic Acid and found no lowering...

    Fixing a neglected pool's chemistry

Added one gallon of 34% (20 baum?) Muriatic Acid and let pump run for hours. pH is still over 8.2 so will add more acid in the morning. This evening FC tested at 11 but CC is at 0. Will check again in the morning to see if there was any loss overnight.

    Fixing a neglected pool's chemistry

I've been using the HDX brand "Pool-Care Chlorinating Liquid" 10% Sodium Hypochlorite and the same brand Muriatic Acid for the past 7 years. Only last year I added 55 Lbs of Boric Acid powder. Never had this slimy feel in this pool. Thank you for the referrals. I'll review the Pool School...

    Fixing a neglected pool's chemistry

About a week ago, I did the following: Brushed the walls and added - 4 lbs of Chlorox Cyanuric Acid powder, - 6 gallons of liquid Chlorine, - 2 gallons of 14.5% muriatic acid. Water has been clear but I tested today and there is no Chlorine left in the pool (also no FC). The CYA is now at about...

    Fixing a neglected pool's chemistry

I'll admit I have been negligent with regular testing and keeping pool chemistry correct for almost a year. Last summer, I added 55lb Boric Acid to the pool and since then have only been brushing and adding 8 gallons of 10% liquid chlorine every so often to keep the water clear. No one has used...

Unusual Test Results - No CYA?

Tested the pool for the first time this season using the new chemicals refill kit. Something is not right because I haven't seen this kind of results previously. pH: 8.2+ T/A: 200 FC: 0 CC: 0 CYA: 0 I'm wondering if the refill kit is problematic or is it the few rains we had in this part of...

Thank you all for your help. The pool is SLAMmed and balanced sparkling clean.

Need to balance my pool in 5 days- advice please...

yes, it is weird since I expected T/A go go down but it didn't. My FC is 24+ because I'm thinking my CYA would be around 60 after the new CYA has been fully absorbed and distributed in the pool.

Need to balance my pool in 5 days- advice please...

After adding Muriatic acid, pH has gone up to 8.2 but T/A has remained at 150. Not sure what I may be doing wrong.

Need to balance my pool in 5 days- advice please...

Wow. I hope I haven't hastened to add too much. With a drought in California, I can't be emptying out any water to refill it.

Will it take a few days to see accurate reading even if I dissolved the CYA using the sock-in-the-skimmer method?

Need to balance my pool in 5 days- advice please...

Today's readings after adding a quart of Muriatic Acid and a pound of CYA stabilizer. FC=0 TA=150 pH:7.5 CYA: <20 Water is still clear. Not sure if I've done the right thing but today I added another quart of Muriatic Acid today to bring alkalinity down further and 2 pounds of CYA powder. I'm...

Need to balance my pool in 5 days- advice please...

Thank you for advice. I'll order the gauge. My TFT kit results are below. I'm puzzled to see the huge difference in Chlorine between the results of this morning and evening. How could that much Chlorine burn in a day? FC: 4.5 CC: 1 TC: 5.5 pH: 8.5 T/A: 160 CH: 240 CYA: Below 20 (Couldn't...

Need to balance my pool in 5 days- advice please...

I was away from home for a couple of months and asked a friend to keep adding 2-3 gallons of bleach every 2 weeks in my absence. When I returned at the start of this month, there was some algae forming in the pool. I added 3 gallons immediately and it cleared up. Two weeks later, it was again...

    Not good at Chemistry

I ran my tests again today and am surprised to see a big change in T/A from 80 to 150 in a month's time. Similarly CH has gone up from 220 to 260. I haven't added anything other than Sodium Hypochlorite (10%). My test kit doesn't provide a way to accurately measure pH other than the K-1000 kit's...

    Not good at Chemistry

I am using TF-100 kit and the TA of 82 is a type. It was 80. FC is so high because I observed some algae forming and I dumped 4 gallons of Sodium Hypochlorite (10%). I assume this is concentrated version of Bleach sold at Home Depot (which not much more expensive than store brand bleach). In...

    Not good at Chemistry

I'm not good at Chemistry so can use a bit of help. I have been using the Bleach part of the BBB method so far. Here are my test results: FC: 15.5 CC: 0.5 TC: 16 pH: 7.5 TA: 82 CH: 220 CYA: 20 Last year my CYA was way high and I had to completely drain the pool. My understanding is that CYA...
