    White mold or something else

Thanks. I was over there last night towards dusk without the pump running and could see into his water much better. It's definitely mold/fungus. It's growing in the corners and seams of his liner. I told him last night that I suspect his CYA is sky high and we needed to blast it with bleach...

    White mold or something else

My dad has a 12k g IGVL pool. He has globs of white stuff floating around in the water, not on top. My initial impression was it looked like someone threw toilet paper in the pool. Searching here seems to point to white mold/fungus. I haven't tested the pool so can't give numbers. I did...

Cryptosporidium closes many pools in the phx area

I'll have to start asking guests if they've had diarrhea in the last two weeks before they get into my pool. I'm sure that will go over well :)

Cryptosporidium closes many pools in the phx area

Since it doesn't proliferate in the pool, I suppose there isn't a good reliable way to test a private pool for crypto, other than someone getting sick and tracing it back to your pool?

    Mustard algae or filter issue?

Well, you can lead a horse to water... He didn't turn the pump off. When he got home the floor was clear, so he just left it alone :( There is a possibility that his robo-kleen is causing the problem. He had a lot of stuff on the floor, and the robo moves pretty fast, stirring some of it up...

    Mustard algae or filter issue?

That's comforting :) Like I said, I'm grasping at straws, and this is the only thing that makes any sense, although his water is crystal clear, as is his return flow. He's going to turn the pump off tonight after the floor is clear and the bleach is circulated. I'll post an update.

    Mustard algae or filter issue?

I'm not yet convinced it's mustard algae. It's spread over the entire pool floor, not totally covered, but kind of splotchy, like deposits of sand or something. The pool floor can be totally clean at night after a few vacuum cycles, but then covered again the next morning. I wouldn't think...

    Mustard algae or filter issue?

My dad's AG pool has me scratching my head. 24' round by 4.5' deep, 15,200 gal. Hayward 1hp pump and older pentair 50 gpm DE bump filter. We opened it late and there was a good bit of algae on the floor and walls. Shocked it, he didn't want to vacuum to waste (on a sand point) so he went...

    Foam on my pool

It can also be used as to prevent algae, with the PH rise offset by adding acid immediately. It wasn't clear which use she was wanting it for, or if she possibly thought since it was part of BBB it was something she needed right away.

    Foam on my pool

Barb, Borax isn't a necessary addition. At least not immediately. Of BBB, I think most here are mainly using Bleach, and the others sparingly, as needed, if at all. I encourage you to wait on the Borax. Yes your pool is clear now, and good job. Now you need to learn YOUR pools individual...

    Foam on my pool

Re: foam on my pool You're welcome :) Barb, can you list the ingredients off the label for each product? Or perhaps someone like waterbear will know what these are, specifically. That's the ideal way, get a good test kit, learn to use it so you know you have numbers you can trust...

Can mustard algae turn your pool green? This is a long one!

What kind of tree farm? The Christmas tree (mostly white and scotch pine) one's here actually spray their trees green, to get a nice, even, consumer friendly color.

    Foam on my pool

What kind of algaecide did you use? Most will produce foam. If you use an algaecide, it is generally recommended to only use poly. Ditch the dip sticks and get a drop based test kit. The 6 way HTH kit at Walmart for $15 or so is better than nothing, and the TF test kit you can get from Dave...

Lot's of pollen/stuff in pool floors?

I think until someone vaccuums, covers their pool then sees if it shows up on the cover or back in the pool, we won't ever know for sure if this stuff is pollen or mustard algae of some sort...

    Algae ID Please

I think it sounds exactly like what's in my dad's pool and many, many others this year, possibly pollen of some sort. You can shock, brush, and it settles right back in and looks the same. Wierd stuff... :) See my thread that has a poll for pics.

Vaccuming to waste without a vaccum to waste option

heatmisr, glad you found it. Your situation was one that was fresh on my mind when I read waste's post. Thought it was too good to get buried :) Hope it helps.

Lot's of pollen/stuff in pool floors?

For those without trees in the immediate vicinity, are there big trees somewhere upwind of the prevailing wind direction for your area?

Vaccuming to waste without a vaccum to waste option

Tagprod, if you had a valve between the filter and the pump that you could close so all flow was directed out of the faucet, then I'd think you could. However, you'd be reducing diameter quite a bit, and I don't know what issues that might cause. If nothing else, the method waste described...

Vaccuming to waste without a vaccum to waste option

Is the pump separate from the filter, or is it an all in one pump/filter? Any chance you have a pic showing what you're talking about?

Vaccuming to waste without a vaccum to waste option

Waste posted this in another thread and I'd hate to see this excellent tidbit get lost :) Should be very helpful for those with cartridge or non-multi port filters :)

Lot's of pollen/stuff in pool floors?

Many people are reporting accumulations of gunk on the pool floor this year. Some are posting pictures that look very similar. My dad's pool has this as well, looks just like most pictures, like this one I stole from firefly's post :) - I thought I'd throw up a poll to see if there was...

    My update with pics

firefly, I can't tell what kind of pool you have, but if it's an AG, any chance you can cover it with some clear plastic (they sell big wide rolls pretty cheap at walmart and homestores, hardware stores, etc.)? If it's algae, it should still get sunlight and be able to continue growing. If...

Looks like algae on vinyl liner but will not brush off!

Craig, generally test strips aren't reliable, and you'd be better off with the 6 way drop kit from Walmart, best off with the TFP 100 kit from Dave :) If by everything but stabilizer being nil you mean they didn't register on your test strip, remeber a low PH can damage a vinyl liner. It's...

    Stinking Mustard Algae!

I keep getting this deja vu of similar discussions each year at poolsolutions forum. If it dusts up then re-settles, I'm betting it's pollen/silt of some nature. I get this too, and simply vacuum it up without altering my daily bleach load with no il effects. I've had mustard algae in the past...

    Stinking Mustard Algae!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought mustard algae kind of sticks in place, whereas pollen is easily disbersed with water movement? That's would be one easy way to tell.
