How do you get rid of pine needles on your screen enclosure?

We have a mansard style screen enclosure, and over the last year a few pine needles have gotten stuck on the flat part that is over the center of the pool. Does anybody have any magic tricks for dealing with pine needles in your screen enclosure?

    Regional differences

I've noticed that living in west central Florida I don't have some of the same concerns that may be common in other TFP members' areas, and have things we need to deal with that others may not. The main difference is long hot days and RAIN, and lots of it, which leads to draining and dilution of...

Tuning FC in crazy weather ... Grr

So, I turned the SWCG percentage down a bit to compensate for shorter days. Now the sun hasn't been seen for what seems like forever, and the FC keeps climbing. Turned it down some more this morning. Hoping to find the sweet spot again soon.

    Florida "closing" thread

So.. NOT closing the pool. But, the days are getting shorter, and with all the rain the pool has struggled to stay at my preferred swim temp of 87-88. So we pulled out the solar cover, and I have set the heater for 87. It runs about an hour each morning, and the pool is wonderful to swim in the...

    Online end of season deals?

Last year my daughter in law got some GREAT deals on end of season floats and pool toys at some local stores. Was hoping to do the same this year but COVID-19. Maybe we can share great online and curbside pickup deals here..

    Ahh-some questions..

We have a jacuzzi bathtub that hasn't been used since we installed our pool and spa. Turned it on and... Yuck. After a couple of rounds with cascade and bleach and more black gunk, I ordered ahh-some from Amazon. I think I got the wrong stuff but used it anyway (about a tablespoon) and got a...

What's your indoor/outdoor room look like?

We'd like to replace our family room windows and single door (about 30 feet) with some kind of glass wall that can be opened in the late fall, winter, and early spring. I like the stacking sliders, but don't know that I want to have to open and close a sliding door all summer log. We could do a...

    Trying to stay ahead...

So, lots of rain intermixed with lots of kiddie time meant that this morning the pool just didn't have that sparkle, and testing showed that FC had dropped to 5. Not wanting to freak out the swimmer's momma by adding LC, I bumped up the SWCG percentage. Once it was naptime, I added about a third...

Hey Florida folk - how is your CYA holding up?

Well, it's dropped again. I just ordered 10 pounds from Amazon, so should be able to add gradually and keep up with the degradation due to sunlight(?), high temps(?)... Pool is crystal clear, and SWG is keeping up with demand, so we haven't gotten into trouble yet, but my CYA definitely...

We made one: Picture is a garden flag glued onto plywood,, clockworks and numbers bought on Amazon, frame made by talented hubby.

    Handrail help...

So, a bit more than a year in, and I see a handrail in our future, for going up the steps and out of the pool. Given that you climb to the sunshelf then turn right to take last step out of the pool, I'm open to configuration suggestions. we are thinking of the SAFTRON Triton TRTD-144, running...

Just bought some market umbrellas to cool things down...

So, pool has been sitting at 90 degrees, and it is hot as heck outside, so in advance of the 4th and a family get-together we bought two of these: Amazon.com : Abba Patio 8 x 10ft Offset Patio Umbrella Rectangular Cantilever Outdoor Hanging Umbrella with Crank & Easy Tilt & Cross Base for...

A little sad that a bunch of the CYA I finally got into the pool is now running down the driveway.

Rain/drain, rain/drain, rain/drain. The good news is that my chlorine levels were great before all this. In fact I was trying to very slowly drop them from a mini slam a couple of weeks ago. SWG has been kicking it. So I don't anticipate any green water from the ongoing downpours.

Hurricane prep... Does anyone here have plans to turn pool water into drinking water in an emergency?

So today's paper had the annual hurricane guide. Which started our conversation about starting to stock up on water etc. Of course we have this big reservoir of water in the backyard which can easily be used for flushing etc, but it made me start thinking about converting it to drinking water in...

Catch it early, SLAM can be fast...

There are lots of threads that say should I do a SLAM? Is it time for a SLAM?... With longer, warmer days, from time to time I fail to appropriately adjust my SWG. Something will be a little off. Chlorine levels not quite what I want them to be, pool just a bit cloudier than ideal. By bringing...

Southern folk... How long are you having to run your SWG to keep up with the long hot days and warmer pool temps?

This is my first time coming from spring to summer with our pool. Last year we took over at the summer's hottest and longest days and chlorine demand went down from there. We're keeping a cover on the pool when we're not swimming to keep it at 88 degrees. We take the cover off every day because...

    Crystals Below Waterline

Moved from HERE. I have the same issue in just a couple of spots. Crystals below the waterline, either on a grout line or where the grout meets the pebble surface. When I remove the crystals there is still a white haze on the grout line and pebble surface where the crystal formed. The...

    Downside of cal-hypo?

So, with the pool covered and warm, the SWCG didn't quite keep up, and OCLT had 2 ppm loss last night. I used my last gallon of 10% liquid chlorine to raise it to 14 ppm, and the SWCG is set to super chlorinate. For a number of reasons, we are taking social distancing very seriously, and won't...

Help - need to set clock (not timers) on Hayward Aquaconnect

So, ever since the time change my incorrect clock on my Hayward system has been bugging me. I successfully turn off the Configuration-Locked menu so that it reads Configuration Unlocked, but I can't see where to actually change the date or time.. Help! Thanks!

    My new favorite tool....

So, when we started out, the PB guy just said to add about 1/3 of a gallon of muriatic acid every 3 days. Those days are long gone, with TFT guidance and testing and pool math. But I still need to add muriatic acid on a regular basis. My new best friend is an old 2 quart tupperware measuring...

Warmer, sunnier days... Getting ready for swim time.. CYA

So, over the winter we've just been using the spa occasionally. Running the pump a couple of hours a day at relatively low SWCG percentage was enough to keep chlorine levels good, and adding acid as needed kept the pool nice and balanced. Now we are getting warmer, sunnier days, and a LOT of...

    Live oak pollen. Yuck

First full year of pool life, and the oak (or other) pollen is wafting through our screen enclosure and collecting at the water line. Imagine a brown bath tub ring. With no one in the pool yet, there's not enough water motion to kick it around an into the skimmer. When I'm home I go around the...

Can "dirty" SWCG cell impact pressure to water features?

So, this week I started getting a "clean your cell!!" error message. Around the same time, my spa spill over stopped spilling over... I added some chlorine to the pool to keep it from getting funky, and will be cleaning the salt cell tomorrow. I'm crossing my fingers that that is what's messing...

I just got my first "your pool is too cold for the SWG to work" error message. Makes me sad.... Should warm up tomorrow. :-)

Has anyone used a regular plastic slide (like Little Tikes) for little ones to slide into the pool?

I'm already looking forward to spring and summer, when Pookie will be playing in our pool a LOT. He'll be far too little for a real pool slide (and our pool fence provides limited space for that) but I was wondering if one of the little kid plastic slides might work. I don't want him bonking his...

    Ants in paver deck?

This may be just a Florida thing, but some local ants have discovered the lovely sand under and between our pavers, and have decided to set up housekeeping. They are NOT fire ants, thank goodness. Just run of the mill little black ants. I put down some Andro and other ant baits, and just did the...
