Water Level Dropping Faster Than Normal

Thanks. Yes, I have a lot of surface area. And the Lazy L makes a solar cover a pain to work with so I have never have used one. And because we have 8 grand kids, we use the pool pretty much daily so I don't want to have to put it on and take it off. So I guess I will need to live with the...

Water Level Dropping Faster Than Normal

It seems like our water level is dropping faster than usual. We have a 20x40 Lazy L (33,000 gallons). We added a heater this Spring. So I am wondering if water is evaporating more since the pool temperature is being held at 90 degrees. Is that possible or should I be worrying about a slow leak?

    Winter cover advice needed...

Ouch! And I was unhappy about having to spend $2k for a cover this year. ;-) Good luck with your replaster and finding the cover you are looking for.

    Pool Covers, mesh vs solid?

I had to order a new safety cover this year and had this same question. My old cover was mesh. I was experiencing the tea leaf problem mentioned above which was partly a problem of an old "porous" cover and probably not installing the cover taught enough to keep leaves out of the water or...

    Winter cover advice needed...

I know you are not interested in a safety cover right now. I just ordered a new safety cover for our pool. I got quotes frm multiple vendors and ended up buying from Mighty Covers. They were very helpful and answered all of my questions. Two other vendors that I found were very helpful are...

What to do with my old mesh safety cover

Just ordered a new mesh safety cover and I am wondering what to do with the old one. Would hate to just put it out for the garbage man to take to a landfill. I saw a thread a while back where someone suggested using it as landscape mesh as a weed guard. Great idea which I will try but my pool...

Suction Side Leak with Vacuum head attached

Haha, some people have no shame! (talking about the Christmas tree)

Suction Side Leak with Vacuum head attached

Just looked at Costco and it appears they only sell a robotic skimmer - no other pool cleaners.

Suction Side Leak with Vacuum head attached

Interesting. I would not think they would take stuff back after several years. Also would not expect them to take something back that was broken from normal wear and tear as opposed to manufacture defect. I guess it might be worth checking out. Maybe next year because I just dropped a bunch...

Suction Side Leak with Vacuum head attached

Thanks Jim. I used to be able to close both valves with only a minimal amount of air. I is much worse now so I thought there might be a problem starting to develop. In my case, I have to crack one about 75% to eliminate the air. I guess I will just do that and if the suction is good enough I...

Suction Side Leak with Vacuum head attached

Correct, all valves open, no air. I close both the other two valves to get the most suction - I thought that is what everybody does. I figured that there might be a problem with my vacuum head hose. That is why I attached the vacuum head on three sections of hose from my Zodiac G3 and let it...

Suction Side Leak with Vacuum head attached

I got tired constantly having to repair my Auquabot every year not to mention the high cost of replacement parts. I don't mind manual vacuuming. If I could fid a robot for less than $1000 and that would operate for more than a swason without costly repairs I might consider it. Thanks.

How much suction for skimmer intake?

But another PRO for flex pvc is that fire or carpenter ants don't like to eat it as much as rigid pvc. ;-)

Suction Side Leak with Vacuum head attached

I have three valves Shallow Skimmer (SS), Deep Skimmer (DS), and Main Drain (MD). Started getting a lot of air when attaching my vacuum head and closing the other two valves. So I put the vacuum head on three sections of my automatic cleaner on the SS. While air bubbles were present, I ran...

Help! Did lightening strike my pool?

I don't think this is lightning damage. If it was there would be some other catastrophic physical damage. You might be able to convince your Insurance claims adjuster of that. But as an Electrical Engineer in the Utility Industry this does not look to me like High Voltage related damage.

Help! Did lightening strike my pool?

I am with you on this. And I think Frogabob may be on to something - ink toner. Probably not soluble in water but electrically charged to "stick" in the right conditions. Enough of the toner got into the pump to overload the circuit and caused the damage to the plug. I am not convinced that all...

    Liquid Chlorine feeders

Thanks. Still plan to do frequent testing. Just trying to get away from frequent dumping of liquid chlorine. Thanks for the response - especially the part about twice the capacity of the pool. I opened another thread in the SWG forum for suggestions. This unit seems reasonably priced.

    SWG Systems under $1000?

I am a believer now - no longer using pucks. But I am growing tired of adding liquid chlorine every other day. I was thinking about going the Hasa Liquidator route but someone suggested considering an SWG. Having seen some negative comments here about the Liquidator I started wondering if that...

Help! Did lightening strike my pool?

I think somebody dumped somethin in you pool. Something fairly thick or viscous and some of it got in your pump and put the motor under so much stress that it overloaded your circuit. I can't understand how pvc cold be charred from an electrical issue. Like someone above said you would think...

    Liquid Chlorine feeders

Thanks you must have been reading my mind. I was just reading up on SWGs. I had one maybe ten years ago but because I was having to replace cells (at around $400 a pop) more often than I liked I ripped it out. The last cell I bought only lasted about a season and a half. I can't remember what...

    Liquid Chlorine feeders

Ok, I am a believer in the whole TFP Methodology, Pool Math and Pool School teachings. IT WORKS! When you follow the guidelines here your pool will be gorgeous. But I am not happy about having to test my water every day or every other day and adding liquid chlorine to keep my chlorine at or...

How can I have algae when maintaining at 7ppm

I am new to TFP as of last year and did not realize that safe swimming chlorine levels were dependant on CYA levels. Was not aware that it was safe to swim at slam levels. I guess I need to go back to Pool School! Are the safe levels discussed there? This thread helps a lot for me because I...

    Learned a valuable lesson Sunday

Thanks for the post. I have passed the slam but have had issues with higher than normal daytime FC losses. No one ever me filmed to me to check skimmer edit gate closely. I am going to pull them off and scrub everything down. Have never done that before.

TFP Newbie - Cannot get fc to register

Thanks guys. Yeeah, those lage losses were while itwas coming down from shock levels, It does seem to slow down as itgets closer to target levels. Now that my CYA is at 60, at least it isn't dropping towards zero nearly as fast. I will see how it does over the next few days. I will be going...
