    pH While on Vacation

Thanks, I will buy some pucks and a floater. Our CYA is low enough that it can survive a couple for a week. I'll lower the pH and then fix it when we return.

    pH While on Vacation

We are going to be gone for a week in August, and are a little worried about maintaining the pH of our pool while we are away. It is a new gunite pool with SWG, so the pH has been always heading to the up side. We have usually been adding muriatic acid every other day to keep it where it needs...

    Need Some Guidance with Chemistry

Yes, I was SO glad to find this website before we even had ours built. It showed me there was a whole lot better way to maintain a pool than hiring a pool service. It was also so helpful to have guidance about knowing the equipment to purchase. By rounding up to the nearest number on the cya...

    Need Some Guidance with Chemistry

Here are my current readings as of this morning: FC - 4 CC - 0 TC - 4 CH - 300 TA - 110 CYA - 35 pH - 7.4 The muriatic acid managed to knock the pH down well. I bumped the SWG up a couple of %, so guessing that is why my chlorine level is up. My CYA is still low, and haven't added anything yet...

    Need Some Guidance with Chemistry

At this point, I'm not really sure what to target with the CYA or CH. I'm sure at some point it will click and make sense, but it's all a blur right now. I will start low with the cyanuric acid and test from there. To complicate matters, we have had a LOT or rain in the past 2 weeks, which makes...

    Need Some Guidance with Chemistry

The pool builder did add shock when starting the pool chemistry. They also used 3 chlorine pucks in the skimmer basket, which have since dissolved. I'll retest the FC / CC / pH and post back later today. I really don't understand the CC info at all. In regards to testing TC with the yellow...

    Need Some Guidance with Chemistry

I’ve been reading this forum since before we started our pool in February, so have learned a lot along the way. Our builder completed our pool last week, and had his folks come out and do the startup chemistry. They added the salt at the end of last week, and have now turned us loose with the...

    Open / Close Freeze?

I was wondering about this, as our pool is set to begin construction later in October and probably (weather permitting) completing in December or January. I guess since we have to brush it and have the chemistry constantly monitored correctly for the plaster to cure properly, we will be doing...

New IG Build in Athens, GA

Re: New IG Build in Athens, GA We had a harder time than expected getting bids for our pool also. I guess they are all really busy. Two of the companies never called us back when I left a message to talk to them initially about our possible pool. We did get three to come out and talk to us. One...

    Automation for pool

Thanks for the link and info. Guess I'll just bite the bullet and get the EasyTouch system, as we refuse to have an Alexa in our house.

    Automation for pool

We are discussing the automation with our PB and he thinks I'm crazy for wanting the system. Can you elaborate some more on this low cost solution you have with basic off the shelf smart switches, etc, and can it be done by someone like me that's not an electronics whiz?

When to Install an Automation System?

Thank you. I sent the PB a link to the Easytouch with the IC60, as we have decided to use the IC60. No spa, no bells and whistles, no waterfalls. The pool will be approx 20,000 gallons. Maybe I'll buy myself the ScreenLogic for Christmas.

When to Install an Automation System?

Thank you so much! I definitely would want the lights to be controlled as well. We are getting a SWG system, so this would be a benefit also. I appreciate your quick response. Now, another question related to this -- can the wireless part that is controlled by the phone be easily added after the...

When to Install an Automation System?

Moved from here.. Pentair: EasyTouch vs. IntelliTouch (Jim R.) We are in the process of deciding on all our options for our future build, and I am interested in the automation. Is the EasyTouch and ScreenLogic something that can easily be added at a later date? We are trying to stay within a...

Need Input on Proposed Equipment for New IG Gunite Build

Yes, but I think it will be worth it in the long run, based on what I have read here. Seems like there will be a good energy savings, plus not having to replace the salt cell as soon.

Need Input on Proposed Equipment for New IG Gunite Build

The Pentair Intelliflo pump is a VSF 3 HP (011056). They are coming on Tuesday to talk to us and iron out the details, and I will be asking them about the IChlor vs IS40 or IS60. There appears to be a substantial markup to go to one of the IS models.

Need Input on Proposed Equipment for New IG Gunite Build

No, there will be concrete coping, separate from the decking. It will still have the clean lines we wanted, just not shown in the image. As far as the returns/skimmers/lights, we have not seen the detail drawing yet, so not sure about the placement.

Need Input on Proposed Equipment for New IG Gunite Build

Thank you for the suggestions. We have folks coming out next week to tell us how much it will cost to re-route the utilities. I'm sure it will be expensive, along with landscape and sprinkler repairs. Luckily, we don't have rocks, so the excavation won't be too bad. Back yard gets full sun. We...

Need Input on Proposed Equipment for New IG Gunite Build

We just got the proposal and preliminary computer images back from the PB in the Tulsa, OK area we want to work with. I have copied the essential parts here, and would like some feedback on what, if anything, we need to add, and questions we need to ask before signing a contract. We are supposed...

Chlorine vs SWG? PBs have us confused so far

Thank you for the information. The builder does not have a store, just a construction office, so he has no skin in the game as far as pool chemicals. I have never read anything about this level of salt water/chlorine damaging concrete, only some possibility of deterioration of limestone and...

Chlorine vs SWG? PBs have us confused so far

We are in the process of talking to some builders for our possible new backyard pool, and a couple of them have differing opinions on chlorine vs salt water. The builder we visited with this morning is not a salt water fan, but will install a system if we choose to go that route, and will...

Researching for Possible Inground Pool Install

We are considering having an inground pool installed to be operational in 2019. Neither my husband or myself have ever had a pool, so this is all new territory for us. I've recently found this forum and am ecstatic to find some real world useful information available here helping us to plan, ask...
