    Drilling into mortar

Good question! Pool builder lost the conduit they placed to run irrigation to a landscaping area near my pool so I'm trying to hide as best as possible the irrigation line to the area. Right now I'm drilling into the mortar for the flagstone but it'd be better hidden if I can drill into the part...

    Help with green pool

Do you have a test kit? Do you use chlorine pucks or bleach? Can you post your results like: FC: ? CC: ? PH: ? TA: ? CH: ? CYA: ? The CYA is pretty important here since it sounds like you're using powdered shock (is that right?). If so, you've been adding quite a bit of CYA which, at a...

Here we go in New Braunfels, TX!

Not sure and we're out of town right now - I'll measure when I get back! I'm hoping it'll still be clear when I get back - I raised the FC to ~5ppm before I left and put 5 pucks in the in line chlorinator (my CYA is less than 20 right now and I'm trying to raise it to ~40). We'll see and I'll...

    I made a pool logger

Howdy neighbor! I'm in New Braunfels, TX and would love to help test this with you. Sounds like a great idea and I've only had my pool filled since August 7th so I don't have that much past data to enter! I'll send you a PM if you're still open to more testers. Thanks!

Here we go in New Braunfels, TX!

Finally got water in the pool! It was about a week and a half ago so it's been pretty busy but wanted to share the latest update. Still a work in progress since they're finishing up the landscaping and more rocks around the waterfall but the light at the end of the tunnel is almost here (and...

    New plaster/pebble startup

Just got the pool filled a couple of weeks ago and the PB hasn't told me to do anything with chemicals. They added (I think - because I wasn't home at the time but saw the empty bottles) 2-3 gallons of MA once it was filled and not much more than that. t've been using the TFP method with...

Neighbor's CYA off the charts - where to start?

Yes. Well water hose on the bottom and the bottom of the pump ~8" under water.

Neighbor's CYA off the charts - where to start?

CYA was estimated at 300+ since I could only get about less than halfway to the 100 line before I lost sight of the dot. After the first ~24 hour drain/refill it was down to 90. He's now at 40 after another drain/refill. The pool water was over 95 degrees and the well water was 70 or so. So...

    High pressure misting system

I was talking about this with my neighbor yesterday and she mentioned that I may get some spray from my waterfall (about a ~4-5 foot drop). I'll wait until after the pool is complete to see if I'll really need the misters. There are plenty of restaurants around here with them - I'll ask some...

    High pressure misting system

I've been doing some research into misting systems. I've had one that works off the garden hose with 10 mist nozzles and while is does spray water and drop the temp a little people do get very wet under them. In my research I've found that if you get a 1000-1500 psi pump you end up with...

Neighbor's CYA off the charts - where to start?

Yes, it does seem that the colder water remained at the bottom and the warmer (existing) water was at the top and drained with the pump which was ~12" under water. The pump was a little faster than the hose so he had to shut it off every once in a while but it worked well!

Here we go in New Braunfels, TX!

We've had progress! Man, we started this thing March 1st and it's sometimes disheartening to read the pool builds where it's literally "3 days ago they dug the hole, 2 days ago they ran plumbing, yesterday they did the rebar and today is gunite! Tomorrow is plaster and we'll be in the pool by...

    just sayin ...

Is that an outdoor bathroom in your first pic? If so, can you give some details on it and maybe some close ups? Our pool is still being built but the first thing we want to get is an outdoor bathroom to discourage peeing in the pool and having to walk through the house to get to a bathroom...

Neighbor's CYA off the charts - where to start?

We remeasured yesterday and CYA is 90. Still high but fairly manageable. It's raining today so he'll see if that and splashing around the pool will bring it down naturally. We added 5 bottles of bleach last night and got the FC to 12.5. I'm heading out of town but he showed me 8 bottles of...

Neighbor's CYA off the charts - where to start?

We measured with a 5 gallon bucket today. 60 seconds to fill with the community well - 40 seconds to fill with my pump from his pool. So we put the pump and well hose in the pool at 6:19PM CST and measured 4 1/2" from water to the top of the coping. We got back from dinner around 9:15PM and...

Neighbor's CYA off the charts - where to start?

We're going to replace 3/4 of the water (until we get to 50 CYA) using the "cold water sinks and warmer water stays on top" method. I have a sump pump that we'll keep ~2 ft under water and throw the hose in the deep end. He's texting his pool maintenance guy talking about the CYA (who knows?)...

Neighbor's CYA off the charts - where to start?

Thanks for the dilution recommendation, they just got back today - I'll help him figure the CYA levels out tomorrow. Do you think my priority list is in the right order? Obviously CYA is first, but what about the others? Thanks.

Neighbor's CYA off the charts - where to start?

Hi all, My friend/neighbor has an IG pool with the following details (He currently has a pool service - I'll be working on convincing him to use the TFPC method): 18,000 Gallons with waterfall Plaster/Pebble DE Filter (I think Hayward) Jandy Stealth Pump (I know it has two speeds, not sure...

Well I guess every construction thread has to have an "ordeal" and this is mine... I have a lot of cedar in the backyard and here in TX cedar is like weeds - you just want to get rid of it. Especially if it is growing around the wonderful Live Oak because the cedar sucks up all the water and...

It's the DJI Phantom Advanced which is a little pricey but I liked the features it had. For 'entry level' but still a lot of good features you should check out the DJI Phantom 3 (a little more than half the price). Wow! I wish I knew about that show before we started! Thanks for the link -...

HAHA, yes! I forgot to mention how blown away we are by the process. These boulders are amazing and have so many nice details on them - the PB owner was here all day the day they set them and he said these are some of the best boulders he's seen in a while (who knows, maybe blowing smoke but...

Ok, it's been a while but it's been busy here so apologies on the late update! Seems like they poured the gunite then the rains came and nothing could get done! We were supposed to get the boulders installed 2 weeks ago but the crane couldn't make it through the mud so it was a waiting game...

Good question/suggestion but NO! :) If you look at the hill above the pool you see some rocks - there's more where those come from we have PLENTY of big rocks up there and that'll be the kid's job to gather up and we'll figure out something to do with them! That's a good idea and I would...
