    VX7-T issues

Hmm, that does sound like something's not right. Does that happen in all programmed cycles or only in one? If you are not using all 4 timer periods, maybe it could help to use one of the unused ones instead, e.g. replace period 1 with period 4? I don't think that it's actually a flow problem...

    VX7-T issues

Remembered to check this morning: At the beginning of the scheduled time the pump started with the SWG lights flashing and no chlorine production. After 5mins, the lights stopped flashing and chlorine production started. Looks like 5mins at the start and 2mins at the the end of each cycle...

Startup SWG chlorinator salt for new pool

Yep, the amount of gunk in the sock is just astonishing, and shows that the socks make sense. I check my skimmer each day anyway for little frogs we sometimes get in the pool, prefer to get them out while still alive. And then there are the spiders... We get trap doors here and they can survive...

Startup SWG chlorinator salt for new pool

When there's lots of stuff going through the skimmer, I change my skimmer sock daily, especially during pollen season. I usually have two socks going, so I can just swap them. Then I turn the dirty one inside out to get the bigger debris out and hang it up to dry. Once dry, I just shake it out...

    VX7-T issues

Just checked at the end of my morning cycle: It ran normally right until the end of the scheduled time, then it started flashing and the chlorine production stopped (no more bubbles in the cell), but the pump kept running for another few minutes. When I went back about 4 mins later, the pump had...

Startup SWG chlorinator salt for new pool

Yep, sun getting more intense by the minute now. My SWG is around [email protected]% now, CYA still at 50 from winter. Will get more CYA next week when Aldi has their annual pool specials - then I can just buy it with my groceries and don't have to do the lockdown online order/pick-up shopping (same price...

    VX7-T issues

According to the documents from the previous house owner, my SWG was installed in 2007. Manual doesn't mention that feature, but it seems to happen every single time, and it seems to be exactly 5 mins at the beginning and end of each cycle. Looks like a feature to me...

    pH reading

I'm using the Apera PH60. Very happy with it.

    pH reading

The CCL pH-test reagent is equivalent to Taylor R-0004, see CCL's compatibility chart: https://clearchoicelabs.com.au/2015/11/test-kit-reagent-compatibility-chart/

I am also struggling with the orange shades of the pH test. Electronic pH-meter solved the issue for me.

    VX7-T issues

My VX7T does the same. Always thought that's intentional. 5mins w/o chlorine production at the beginning to ensure the pump is primed and 5mins at the end to ensure there's no hydrogen gas left in the system.

Heavy scaling on the plates of my cell.

So, you did add Baking Soda, and not Washing Soda?
  14. mgtfp

Heavy scaling on the plates of my cell.

Just to avoid any remaining confusion: Did you want to write "I used Arm & Hammer washing soda - 100 % Sodium Carbonate" (No "Bi"...)? Washing Soda is Sodium Carbonate (Na₂CO₃), Baking Soda is Sodium Bicarbonate, also called Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate (NaHCO₃). The "Bi" is a bit confusing...

    HY-CLOR Calcium Chloride impurities

Hi @samjesse I just wanted to add some Hy-Clor calcium chloride to my pool. First used the rest from an old bag (same bag that I used for the test I was describing above), all good, dissolved crystal clear in my bucket. Then I used a new bag, and that stuff instantly created the same brown mess...

    Recommendation for PH tester

I also have the Apera pH60, very happy with that. I once logged the pH-reading over time: That measurement was done by just putting the meter in the sample, nor further stirring or shaking to have reproduceable conditions. The grey curve is just rounded to to one digit, that would probably be...

    M.Acid Feeder with SWG

The Astralpool SWGs can be operated up to 8000ppm salt level. Astralpool recommends 4000ppm for their generators, but they are specified to work between 3000 and 8000ppm. Never tried and don't intend to go that high, though.

    Lamotte v. Taylor.

That table applies to pools without CYA. With CYA, the HOCl-concentration is much less dependant from pH. As long as you stick to TFP's FC/CYA chart, you don't have to worry about pH making your FC inefficient.

Startup SWG chlorinator salt for new pool

Question to @Dirk and @mguzzy: If I understood the reasoning for the higher CYA levels for SWG-pools correctly, then it is mainly to protect the higher chlorine concentrations coming from the cell from UV destruction before being distributed into the bulk pool volume. And secondly, running the...

    Last Swim

I've actually been to Cape Cod once. Must have been September. I went for a swim, but my feet cramped up in the cold water, so it was a very short dip. Last week, our pool got up to 16°C, which was just bearable for a short swim. But we had another cold spell this week and torrential rain, so...

Startup SWG chlorinator salt for new pool

The idea is to buy CYA pre-dissolved in a bottle. The problem is that CYA has such a low solubility in water, that it is actually impossible to dilute significant amounts in just one bottle. You end up with a sludge that settles to the bottom of the bottle. You really only get it out by rinsing...

Startup SWG chlorinator salt for new pool

My reasoning when supporting Fiesta's comment about sticking to the non-SWG-chart was more that while the SWG is not yet running much, the pool is actually for most of the day not much different to a non-SWG pool, you don't get the full benefit yet of the higher chlorine levels within the SWG...

Startup SWG chlorinator salt for new pool

That makes a lot more sense. 1700g should have got you to 47ppm. If you are are now (a few weeks later) testing 40ppm, then that is spot on. At least you'll have a good feel for the test now ;) I'm still at 40ppm, too. Was planning to increase now that spring has officially started, but we just...

Startup SWG chlorinator salt for new pool

We just started spring here in Australia, still a bit early to see how well FC is holding. My CYA is still at 40 from winter and FC is holding fine, SWG is still hardly running. While the SWG is still only running a few hours on maybe 30%, I treat the pool as non-SWG in regards to FC anyway. But...

You'll need quite a strong light to do the test inside, just under the normal kitchen light might not be enough. What worked for me, is my workbench light illuminating a white surface on the kitchen bench while holding the test tube about 20-30cm above that illuminated surface. I only get that...

Startup SWG chlorinator salt for new pool

I'd say find lighting conditions that show the standards as close as possible to 50ppm and stick to that, and then stop thinking about it or it will drive you nuts. For me, that's my battery workbench light placed in a certain distance on the kitchen bench. That seems to be working for me. I...

    Disabling SWG

There are two "nobody/nothing there" scenarios, that both occur. Either the teenagers are mentally absent when talking to them. Or they actually understand and take in the task, but figure that there is no garbage there to be taken out or they thought you were talking about "the other" trash can...

    TA Test Result Question

See how you go. If pH is stable enough then leave it there. If not, try closer to 50ppm, but don't go below 50ppm. Also important not to have wrong expectations. Even with TA=50ppm, pH will still want to settle somewhere in the higher 7s, low 8s, depending on other parameters like CYA (with...
