Pool Build St. Louis 2020 Saltwater Aurora 27' AGP

And then, the electrician. The electrical work was great! Gave us an extra outlet by the house, upgraded the garage subpanel to 50 amps, put a switch on the outside of the garage for the light by the pool... But absolutely no idea of how to bond a resin pool. Or any pool, really. Or what a...

So far so good, here is the pool, with saltwater generator attached. The unicorn's name is Marshmallow Strippy-Stripe. The dog's name is Oscar.

Pool Build St. Louis 2020 Saltwater Aurora 27' AGP

Here's the bend in the wall before filling the pool. It has just about returned to normal with the weight of the water and the pliability of the resin.

Pool Build St. Louis 2020 Saltwater Aurora 27' AGP

So we put the liner in again. Went on much better with an actual 27' round liner! Except we again went clockwise round the pool instead of installing by 8 sections (N/S/E/W/NE/SW/NW/SE). What happens is the bottom of the liner drags a little bit compared to the top, and you get wrinkles. So I...

Pool Build St. Louis 2020 Saltwater Aurora 27' AGP

And we arrive at the liner, what was quite possibly the low point of all of this. Normally when you buy a 27' round liner, and the box says 27' round liner, and the tag on the liner says 27' liner, you expect a 27' liner. We did not get a 27' round liner. We got a weird, defective liner. It...

Pool Build St. Louis 2020 Saltwater Aurora 27' AGP

All resin. We went back and forth in April about whether we wanted to get a pool due to COVID. By the time we decided to go for it, The only 27' pool we could find was this all resin monster. But I like have the SWG and we may end up doing a partial bury, so that will work out.

Pool Build St. Louis 2020 Saltwater Aurora 27' AGP

Armor shield going in. Should I have put it down first instead of the cove so it went under it? Probably. Should I have put it down first so the rain was less likely to wash away sand? Probably. Should I have paid more and got the 27' pad instead of buying the 28' pad and spending an hour and...

Pool Build St. Louis 2020 Saltwater Aurora 27' AGP

Hey look more rain. That's sand leaking out of the low side of the pool. I really really wanted to get the liner in over the weekend, but the pavers, sand, rock dust, rail install, wall install, and foam cove just ate up too much time. You can see there's no Armor Shield yet. Luckily I had extra...

Pool Build St. Louis 2020 Saltwater Aurora 27' AGP

And wall is up! Took me and three (strong and handy) friends to do it. 27' pool makes for a heavy wall! It's staked down although if I did it again I'd use bungee cords and tent stakes. Uprights going up. Yes, the pool is level to within an inch across 27' Between being dug into a slope and the...

Pool Build St. Louis 2020 Saltwater Aurora 27' AGP

Here is a bunch of sand and rock dust. Rock dust went down in a 2' ring around the circumference of pool where rails would lie. Compacted it with hand tamper down to level of top of pavers. Good workout. Decided to go with 3 inches of sand, armor shield, and foam cove. Actually bought enough...

Partial bury or retaining wall WWYD?

Thanks all, we have the pool up and running and are still deciding on the wall vs. backfill. Wall will cost around $8-9K. Ouch. We could get a nice deck for that. For partial bury I would hire someone to backfill using pipe at the base of the pool, 18-24" of gravel (both deep and wide), and...

Pool Build St. Louis 2020 Saltwater Aurora 27' AGP

Thanks for the bump, I owe everyone more pictures! Short answer is we had some adventures in bonding the pool, and the skimmer leaked, and I added too much CYA due to not getting the Taylor kit right away, and the two younger ones both got swimmer's ear... OMG I forgot the liner issue. That...

Pool bonding question - all resin pool

Yeah, he already talked to the inspector and claims the inspector told him that the county requires four points of bonding to the bolts of the uprights. And I've told him three times the bolts don't actually exist. Which means the inspector is not up to date either. I asked him for the name of...

Pool bonding question - all resin pool

JCP looks nice! Here is the electrician's response to our phone call. I wrote a lengthy response asking for clarification on pretty much everything he said, starting with the fact that he needed to check and double check how to bond a pool since he clearly had no idea what he was doing. :mad...

Pool bonding question - all resin pool

Thanks teal. And yes Kelly, I'm not happy about having my uprights drilled into. AJ.A. to clarify since the metal wall seams (one one inside, one on the outside, connected with many metal nuts and bolts) are within the pool and outside the pool wall, as well as 54" tall, then they need to be...

Pool bonding question - all resin pool

Yes Mdragger88 he screwed the copper connections into my uprights  FWIW he is the son of the guy who owns the company who kept telling me everything is fine the way it is, was not familiar with water bonding, etc. I'm beginning to think that as he is older his info is out of date, not that...

Pool bonding question - all resin pool

Thanks! Just checking. I couldn't see how our big grey monstrosity could be classified as a storable or temporary pool but wanted to check that section II of 680 applied. As we went round and round the NEC, he kept saying that it was OK the way it was, inspectors have never called it out, etc...

Pool bonding question - all resin pool

Can any code gurus clarify what constitutes a permanent pool vs. a storable? It's an all-resin 54" high pool, which we are not partially burying. Since the max depth is over 42" does that automatically make it a permanent pool? I think the electrician has never been asked to bury the wire...

Pool bonding question - all resin pool

Hi all, Is what we have here safe? My question is about how much of the bonding wire needs to be in contact with the ground, and also why it needs to go all the way around the pool. As the pictures show, the wire is only touching ground where I have dirt piled up. The wire does travel about...

Pulled wall off track during install - received the wrong size liner

Measured from cove seam to cove seam in the narrow direction. The liner was in the pool (which was only 27' across) so I couldn't measure fully that way, but it looked like about an extra 6' the long way. Also, 18x33 is the only 18' oval size that made sense. Company is refunding liner and...

Pulled wall off track during install - received the wrong size liner

Thanks for your help and advice. Pool is about 3 feet full. Some of the resin wall got bent when we pulled it really hard with the oval liner. As the pool is filling it is slowly pushing the wall out. We will find out if it snaps completely out to shape when we get it up all the way full.

    Pool liner hanging funny?

Ugh, I was afraid of that. What would you do if you were me? Drain and rehang using heikejohn’s method? If I just fill it with the wrinkles do you think that it will cause structural problems like stress in the liner? ETA was able to take off two top rails and slowly rotate (pull) top of...

    Pool liner hanging funny?

Hey all, Finally got the right liner for our pool (tip: don’t try to install an 18x33 liner on a 27’ round pool). It’s a unibead installing as a J hook. Started on west end and worked aroun 180 degrees. At that point one of us went back to where we started and began working around the other...

Pulled wall off track during install - received the wrong size liner

Thanks all. We couldn’t quite figure out how to get the track in without popping out the next section or getting a bunch of sand in. it happened to be the two sections on either side of the wall joint, so we unbolted it and reset the track. Had to tap several upright bases in to make it fit but...

Not going to beat the rain on install

Thanks! I have 2.5" of sand on top of the ground as a base, and the top of the stepper will be level with the ground, so think I should be good. Unfortunately, we got the wrong size liner and I tried to install it. It...did not go well. On to the next thing...

Pulled wall off track during install - received the wrong size liner

Hi all, I have a 27' round that now has two sections off the rails. We ordered a 27' round x 54" unibead liner. Got a box that said 27'x54". Unrolled the liner inside the pool, sticker said 27'x54". Turns out it was an 18'x33'x54" oval liner. Turns out that when you try to install that on a...

Partial bury or retaining wall WWYD?

Yeah, my head keeps telling me to spend the rest of the summer building a retaining wall, but my heart just wants to partial bury and get to do more swimming! For the perforated pipe do you think it will fill with clay if I wrap it in heavy duty landscape fabric and backfill over it with gravel...

Help! Sand already washing out! Do i need a retaining wal!

Following to see how your project goes. I am over in St. Louis with the exact problem. What did you do for the sand washout? I'm planning on refilling with sand and putting in more rock dust on the outside where the washout happened. And I dug out a catch basin that runs to a gutter for a...
