    And we are off...

Gotcha - I'm proficient with running PVC myself, just wasn't sure how accommodating most builders were to that sort of thing - I'll be sure to talk to mine more about it when I come up with an idea of what I want to do.

    And we are off...

So when you guys say "I am adding" are you just going and laying down your own PVC after the builders leave for the day or having them run the extra lines for you? Just curious...and coming up with ideas of my own. For one thing, I would definitely like to have at the very least an...

    And we are off...

On the topic of running extra PVC for future potential use, where are you running it to? I understand one end would be at the equipment pad, but what about the other end?

How often do you have to change out a vinyl pool liner?

Oh wow if you're at 23 years on one liner, you win. They're on their 2nd in that 35 years. I think he said the first one made it 15 or 17 which would mean they're at 18 or 20 now on the current one.

How often do you have to change out a vinyl pool liner?

But short of trusting your builder, how does one know what's a better/worse liner? Is it all about thickness? Just curious. My parents are still on their second liner in 35 years. Don't get me wrong, it looks AWFUL and is pulling out of the track in the corners, but hasn't dropped below...

Wait to do paver coping and decking after pool?

Good feedback! I actually did not know about the preference to use gravel, I just assumed the PB's here backfill with excavated soil. I will find out. Even if they do use the soil, I am okay with waiting a bit for it to settle. Not a year mind you, but it's going to be at least 4 months from...

Wait to do paver coping and decking after pool?

Any more input or thoughts on this? I've since read a couple of other threads with mention of people finishing and using a pool before coping and decking is added so it doesn't sound like that should be much of a concern, but the more opinions the better!

    Awful Concrete Coping

So I know nothing about concrete, but judging from the responses I take it there's no possibility of having a (competent) crew cut the edge off at a straight line with a concrete saw, then grind a bevel on the edge? Thinking like how you can cut and grind a bullnose onto a stone countertop edge...

    Construction underway...finally - Katy, Tx

Dang, without checking with either you or the neighbor first? Glad it will work out in the end though. And I too am astonished with how minimal the disruption is to the surrounding yard. I have an expectation of everything within 10-15' of my pool perimeter being completely destroyed, maybe...

Wait to do paver coping and decking after pool?

Good points Dirk, to be clear this outfit has done pool decks before although I haven't spoken to him in detail about those specific items but I will for sure.

Wait to do paver coping and decking after pool?

We're slated to start construction in November of an in ground, freeform vinyl liner pool with polymer walls. The plan is to do a paver decking and coping which the PB does not do on his own, we are subbing that out ourselves to the contractor we used for our patio. Would there be any harm - or...

Building this fall/winter in south Alabama

Well, we signed! Construction won’t start until November; could have started sooner but gives us time to get the trees taken out and allow me to do some preliminary grass relocation on my own time, plus even if it started sooner it likely wouldn’t get used until Spring anyhow. I’ll either bump...

Building this fall/winter in south Alabama

Updated build list, any further advice? Pool: Vinyl Latham Gemini 16x32 with inlaid liner steps and tanning shelf Filter: Hayward Sand S244T Pro Series Pump: Pentair 1.5HP VS pump (unsure of exact model, this was what PB told us when I mentioned I wanted to upgrade to VS) SWG: Hayward Aquarite...

Made a huge mistake...need advice PLEASE

Was the original plan to "finish" the exposed wall or was it going to be backfilled with soil up to the coping level anyway? I agree with the others though that either way it can be made to look just fine with a suitable deck or landscaping.

I don't have that information yet, but will try to find out. Thanks for the input on the pumps.

Pump selection, Hayward MaxFlo, EcoStar, Super Pump, TriStar?

Thank you @mas985, that does make sense for the larger HP models. Any good references to help me understand the difference between various models of equal or similar HP? i.e. what is the difference from a MaxFlo 1.65 HP to a Super Pump 1.65 HP to a TriStar 1.85 HP, etc?

Pump selection, Hayward MaxFlo, EcoStar, Super Pump, TriStar?

Apologies in advance in that I'm cross-posting a bit, I asked for equipment suggestion in my other thread but thought I would try in this sub-forum as well as I'm specifically trying to settle on a pump. The builder's initial proposal includes a 3/4 HP Hayward MaxFlo XL. The pool will be about...

Building this fall/winter in south Alabama

Sorry for the old "to the top" bump, hoping to get some feedback on the equipment list so I can respond to the PB in the next day or two. I did a couple of hours of research for these specific items last night though, and unless my research failed me I feel pretty good with most everything but...

Building this fall/winter in south Alabama

Ok, got some product info from the PB. Here's what our proposal includes, would love to have some feedback on the equipment listed and if I should request quotes to sub out any of this. Pool will be approximately 16x32, 16,000 gallon, vinyl liner. Filter: Hayward Sand S244T Pro Series Pump...

    Adding light post construction?

So true. I want to discuss options, pros/cons of various items, I'm leaving it wide open for them to "sell" me, that is work with me to show me what they can do and win me over, but right now the reality is they can hit the "easy button" and just move right move on to the next prospect and not...

This is what a builder we spoke with requested as well. Too late for the OP, but agree much better to have them try to dig it out than have it ground.

What is so bad about using the skimmer to vacuum?

Well that's what I would assume also, but for example in this thread there were a couple of comments specifically that set me off on this tangent: It seemed like a pretty popular opinion as I dug around on it, was just trying to determine what was so cumbersome about it. edit: and while I...

What is so bad about using the skimmer to vacuum?

Pardon my ignorance - don't have a pool, hoping to have one built this fall/winter, just doing my best to educate myself now. While reading about pool cleaners (pressure vs robot) I also came across several comments suggesting having a dedicated suction line installed to use when vacuuming...

Pool deck experience with hot concrete pavers

I'm curious if anyone has used an IR thermometer to get a rough estimate of the surface temp of their decking. I grew up with concrete decking around the pool and a treated pine deck, can't imagine much being hotter than that. We have the same Tremron Sierra pavers on our patio and I've not...
