    New Product: Hayward OmniPL

My old single speed is starting to rattle and in California it's pulling maybe $100 in electric a month so I'm probably going to go with the VS at the same time. Did you figure out the difference between the VS models? For 230V I see a SP2670020VSP with no price listed and a W3SP2603VSP listed...

CYA Test (50 ppm reference images)

For anyone else who is as frustrated by the uncertainty involved in the CYA test, here are some images to help reassure, at least. Obviously, everyone's vision is different and images are only so good, but comparison helps. When they say keep the sun behind you, it's more than "make sure it's...

    First SLAM

Thank you! Based on 10 pucks I bet it's around 30. I have 40 oz by volume CYA in the sock now and I expect to cruise up to a 60 ppm plateau while I maintain it as a liquid chlorine pool. When I manage to get the SWCG replaced i should already be close to optimal. My salt meter readings continue...

    First SLAM

I finally passed the overnight test. I had the waterfalls off and I think that drew out my SLAM since they have small pools that really need to remain in circulation. Lesson learned. CYA test remains frustrating, but using the calc as a reference, I think I've got it down as well as one could...

Excellent! Perhaps we can compare notes as we (inevitably) troubleshoot ;)

    First SLAM

Thank you. Sometimes you just have to trust your mathematics, eh? ?

    First SLAM

So do you err high or low with the CYA readings? It is especially important during SLAM since shock levels vary greatly from 20, 30, 40 ppm CYA etc.

    First SLAM

aI dont care personally. If it doesnt affect the SLAM I'll just wait til FC is dropping naturally to worry about the rest. Also, the sun came out and I did the CYA a couple of times. I think the trouble is compounded by a psychosomatic affect or "visual memory" if that makes sense, and keeping...

    First SLAM

Thank you, thorough and clear as i could ask for. I have a 50ppm CYA sample in the mail and I'm thinking about making a light box since sunny days are 50/50 here. My gut tells me I'm looking at 30-40 CYA results but I need to be sure at least which side of the reference I'm at. Last night I...

    First SLAM

I just got my new filter cartridges and plumbing tip-top so I'm about to SLAM the tap water refill (I drained it dry). FYI I added 2 gallons of 10% chlorine and 10 crushed pucks a few days ago to hold me over while waiting on filter parts. This (with the solar cover on) gave me the FC and CYA...

PSA: Hayward Tristar Union Fittings (SPX3200UNKIT) are 2-1/2" OD (listed as 2" fittings)

Good news, the 2-1/2" slip coupling was perfect, meaning the SPX3200 union fitting is 2.5 inches outside diameter: No leaks on the new joint at the 24 hour mark (purple primer + christy's blue glue). I still have one leak from the small bulkhead fitting o ring on the cartridge filter, but I...

PSA: Hayward Tristar Union Fittings (SPX3200UNKIT) are 2-1/2" OD (listed as 2" fittings)

So, I did a thing, and now I need to cement in a new union, which for an SP3220 is Hayward SPX3200UNKIT and every source lists it as a 2" union. The unsettling part is that my unions measure 2 1/4 ID. In a few days I'll find out. The local supplier wants $50 for a pair of them, so filtration...

    New Product: Hayward OmniPL

Update: No official price or availability yet; Hayward says perhaps a few weeks. I wasn't sure what was different but they clarified that regardless it is a 4-relay / 6 capacity system instead of 4/10 like the omni logic so perhaps it ends up being cheaper but no one can promise. PolyTec is...

Cracked and Rusty Artificial Stone Repair

I just painted it with bonding adhesive and I'll mix up some sifted concrete (no gravel) in an hour or so. I want to get the worst of it patched up while I have easy access and a dry skimmer.

Cracked and Rusty Artificial Stone Repair

Yes, it's rebar covered in stained concrete. For now I want to patch things up while it's drained so it doesn't get worse, but I would be wise to spray it at least at some point soon. Does the staining have to be done with an empty pool or would you just bring the level back down below the faux...

Cracked and Rusty Artificial Stone Repair

Recently acquired property- I need to do something about these for safety's sake, even if it doesn't look perfect. Is just adding some quikrete and stain ok or is there a specific process I need to follow?

    My First Test Results

Excellent. Thanks for the quick input! EDIT: while I'm at it with an empty pool, what should I think of doing besides the obligatory chlorine bath/wall scrubbing?

    My First Test Results

Yes I suppose I could get started. I wasn't sure if SLAM was necessary with tap water but I'll take that advice.

    My First Test Results

I recently moved and acquired a salt water pool that had been pucked for years and "maintained" for a while but I just got my TF-100 today so I'm ready to get things under control. Some of the results seem so far out of bounds that I question my own abilities, but hopefully I'm on the right...

You are completely correct... but have you perused the reviews on the competition? From a newcomer's perspective, at least, they are only more appalling!

Pool number of gallons : getting it right

I used salinity to calculate mine as it is one thing that is a fairly stable measurement and you can find digital meters to read it.

    New Product: Hayward OmniPL

I'm just not sure how that differs from OmniLogic or OmniHub supposedly all of them have apps to control them and have some varying capacity to automate (etc.) Is the difference just generational thing?

    New Product: Hayward OmniPL

Has anyone heard of this yet? The brochure is new and the only trace of its existence I can find: https://hayward-pool-assets.com/assets/documents/pools/pdf/literature/omnipl-sellsheet-LITOMNIPL20.pdf It sounds like an updated but simpler Omni Logic. UPDATE: As of 5/11/2020 it appears to be...

Can I add connectivity to Aqua Logic or must I upgrade everything?

I just installed the AquaConnect app and it literally does not open on my Samsung S9+... quite a deal breaker. I am hesitant to start replacing the AQL parts since they are obsolete (and thus massively overpriced). I also found something called OmniPL on Hayward's site which purports to be a...

Can I add connectivity to Aqua Logic or must I upgrade everything?

Thank you for the resources! I have a lot more studying to do. My approach nowadays is actually to read the reviews for the corresponding app before even comparing devices... such as Ring vs. Nest or Nest vs. Emerson thermostats, etc. Incidentally, the Aqua Connect app has the scariest ratings...

Can I add connectivity to Aqua Logic or must I upgrade everything?

Hi everybody, I'm so glad to have found this place and I've been learning from the firehose since I moved into a new place with a 2004 SWG setup. My first question is the most important before I spend some serious change on a new system, so I hope someone has experience with this dilemma. The...
