    eXtremely Cloudy Water

I don’t have room to talk since I’m in the middle of a SLAM, but I’m guessing you need to start with Pool School. :)

First run in with Algae since pool build!

One more question, I’m planning to start the slam tonight and I read the recommendation of running the pump 24x7 throughout the process. I have a two speed pump, should I run on high or low for the duration?

First run in with Algae since pool build!

Our steps are a bit cumbersome and large. Before I start the slam, would it be sufficient if I jump in, unhook them from my deck, scrub them while in the water and simply leave them in the middle of the pool during the slam process?

First run in with Algae since pool build!

Thanks for the advice. Our stairs were incorporated into our deck build and are a bit more tricky to remove then your average set of stairs. They are about 3 ft away from my return. If I adjust my return to be more in their direction, will that help? This would create a counter clockwise...

Understood. I’ll make some adjustments once I get back to normal.

First run in with Algae since pool build!

I went ahead and turned it on to max. I don’t really understand how I got here, which makes me want to learn. I’ve been testing my numbers regularly. Only thing different was the tropical storm we had off our east coast. It blew some decent wind this weekend and I assumed it was just pollen from...

First run in with Algae since pool build!

So I measured a FC of 4.0 tonight with 0 CC. According to the chart, my SLAM number is FC 24 since my CYA is at 60. Should I even bother running the SWCG at max tonight? I can run to the store tomorrow to pick up the chlorine to get it started. Thanks Again.

First run in with Algae since pool build!

Ok thanks. I'll study up on the slam process and get to work on it tomorrow.

First run in with Algae since pool build!

So I noticed over the weekend a little pollen or algae on the bottom of the pool. After running our Dolphin CC a few times, I thought it would clear it up. Before leaving town on Monday, I jumped on here and was reading about how others have needed the "extra fine" filter basket for the dolphin...

Return Jet - Thread fitting size?

I am happy to report that this was operator error. Do not try to test fitting sizes when the pump in running on low. After I turned the pump off, I was able to confirm that 1-1/2" is the correct threaded fitting. :) Now on to my next post about my first episode with algae.... Thanks all!

Return Jet - Thread fitting size?

Good stuff all! Thanks for the help. It’s been a busy week so I haven’t had a chance to get back to this project. I appreciate all of your help!

Return Jet - Thread fitting size?

I was under the deck today for an unrelated project and thought I'd shoot a quick picture of the return from the outside to see if anyone could tell if it's a standard return or not.

Return Jet - Thread fitting size?

lol Wow!! That thing looks like a lot of fun! I appreciate the good advice. I'm going to take that fitting up to my local plumbers shop and see what they have. If a 1.6" PVC connection was available, that's what it feels like to me. It's silly, I know. I'll double check it all again before I...

Return Jet - Thread fitting size?

So I did some reading on this forum and came across Skippy's pool cooler and decided I wanted to take this on. I went as far as ordering the same Polaris fittings that he used (I later found out that this was because his pool had a specific polaris return jet that these fittings were designed to...

    Above ground pool vacuum recommendations:

Yes it goes up the walls. Well I've only had it for a few months now and haven't had issues with it. It has really good reviews and in the listing they describe it as "ideal for above ground". Not sure exactly who you spoke with but I would think that if that was the case, they certainly...

    First Pool - Many Questions

I don't see any issues here, but I'm far from an expert. If it's all resin, you should be good with a salt system. When I purchased our 2 speed pump, it came with a recommended range of salt PPM that would be ok. Maybe just double check that on your pump side...

New Build - Thoughts on deep end being 4Ft from house?

Happy Sunday all! My parents are looking to have an in ground pool built at their house and have met with several potential companies. Due to the constraints of their backyard, they're going with an L shape pool with the deep end being 5Ft deep. What is the consensus on having a 5Ft deep end...

    Overlap or Unibead

I wish I would've looked more into the differences when we made our decisions a couple of months ago. The overlap is what we went with and just based on pure aesthetics, I didn't realize the visible overhang on the outside of the pool from that style of liner. In a few months, I plan to...

    Relationship between FC and CYA

So I'm still newer to the pool world and have been maintaining 60-70 CYA and 5-7FC. We haven't had any issues whatsoever, so I'm not trying to solve anything here. With a SWG that's able to generate enough chlorine to maintain the proper levels, what's the purpose of CYA? I guess I'm thinking...

    Question about Above Ground Robot

I recently bought the Dolphin Nautilus CC and have used it a handful of times. I have nothing to compare it to, but so far, it's doing its job and it amazes me how much small dirt and sand it picks up. No issues with cord tangles that I've seen, and it has no issues climbing up the wall and even...

    Pool lights?

I recently installed the exact same light. I ran power underneath our deck and hid the little "Power Button Box" underneath one of our steps to the deck. Works great and the two hour timer is nice. I do wish there was a way to put my own smart outlet on it to control it remotely though.... All...

Water and Iron Question - Delivery in 3 hours!

Thanks all. We pulled it off yesterday! 12k gallons from the water truck and the remaining 2k thru the filters direct from the well. PH measured about 7.8 last night and the FC was 1 (I’m guessing this is from the 12k of city water).

Water and Iron Question - Delivery in 3 hours!

Good Morning! The pool installers are here finishing up our first AGP this morning. I have a water truck scheduled for noon today to start filling. The water trucks are 6,000 gal each and my question is if I should save the extra $325 and have them only bring in 12,000 gallons, which would...

New Pool Owner - How much pool Chlorine is needed?

I’ve got a TF100 already on the way in preparation for next weekend. Also already have the 5 gallons of 10% liquid chlorine that was suggested so I’m good there. The water truck doesn’t come until after the pool build, keep in mind this is an AGP. Any suggestions on my planned step formula in...

New Pool Owner - How much pool Chlorine is needed?

I'm picking this thread back up and apologize in advance for a possibly silly question. Our pool install is one week away and thus, I'm laser focused on getting this "opening" process down and water chemistry understood! DiverGirl above mentions needing 18oz. of 10% of Liquid Chlorine per 1 unit...
