    Plaster vs Pebble

Neither my wife or I have been. We don't have kids, but do have nieces in their teens.

    Plaster vs Pebble

I live in Northern California and looking to rebuild/resurface an old in ground pool. The surface is currently white plaster and we're considering a colored Pebble Tek. I need information from someone other than the salesman. Does Pebble Tek last longer? If we get colored Pebble Tek, can we...

    timer stopped working

Hello, I have an Intermatic pump timer for my pool. I'm guessing the whole pool and pump system is over 20 years old. The timer stopped moving...so its not activating the pump anymore. There are actually two timers...one for the main and one for a booster pump. The circuit breakers are fine...

    new technology versus old...

My pool pump motor is LOUD. It's old (I assume from the 80's) and I've had it rebuilt once...three years ago (I've lived here for eight years). It's a Challenger/Pac-Fab pool pump (1.5 hp). I think its time for a replacement...though not yet sure I can afford it. I've talked with a trusted...

    Anyone using SOLAR SUN RINGS?

Well...despite the negative comments here...the wife and I bought eight rings. We're desperate for help, as last summer our pool never got above 78 degrees, even on 100 degree days. The wife wanted to try these as she doesn't like the look of a solar blanket (the pool is all you see from...

    What's your current pool temp?

My pool was 78 degrees today...the warmest yet this year. :whoot: It's been a cool spring in NoCal, it may have made 90 degrees today, for the first time this year. Normally we have had several days in the 90's by late May, but none this year.

I need to know what I am doing wrong

Thanks for the replies. I've been rather busy, and haven't spent a lot of time with the pool. or in here. To answer some the questions asked... My tests results have been good. Yes, there is debris in the pool. It's mostly all gone now. I had some debris when I first posted...

I need to know what I am doing wrong

The water was (mostly) clear. Actually...it was clear, but as mentioned there were leaves and such still in the pool bottom. My sweep has been picking most of it up, baskets getting some too. I have noticed some debris in the cartridge when I wash it. But eventually the rinse off...

I need to know what I am doing wrong

Since it was okay for the first four days (15-20 psi) I am assuming no blockage. I think I may not be taking care of the cartridge??? I will try TSP next. My pool was a lovely shade of green. I would add chemicals and the algae would laugh at me. :(

I need to know what I am doing wrong

I need to know what I am doing wrong... I moved into this old house with an old pool several years ago...and it's always been a bit of a struggle to keep on top of keeping the pool clean. I replace the cartridge every year. This spring I had to drain the pool, then refill it and...

    Pump problems

Just to follow up... The pump is so old, no one makes parts for it anymore...but my BIL did find someone in San Diego who has one...so it's in route. In the meantime, he epoxied that (for lack of a better term) collar back onto the diffuser plate and we re-installed it last night. I have...

    Pump problems

My BIL and I looked at it tonight...the diffuser is broken. (see diagram, part broken is in blue) Now the question is...was it broken before I took the motor apart, or when I took the motor apart. We had it pumping water once (so no clogged line)...but couldn't get it running...

    Pump problems

Thanks Durk  I took the motor off this evening and the impeller is neither clogged, jammed or broken as it spins freely. So I am going to give the BIL a chance at fixing it, (he works in a motor shop) or take it to a pool shop. The electrical cable is still attached to the box...

    Pump problems

So my brother-in-law came over Saturday. He has more experience with pools and electric motors than I do. At first he wasn't sure and tried a few things, with no luck. Then he stuck the hose into the hole that holds the screening basket attached to the pump. He quickly closed it tight as I...

    True hamburgers

If you include pork...make sure all your guests eat pork first. I'm finding more folks who don't. I prefer the 80/20 mix for hamburgers....

No problem with the circuit breaker. I'll try breaking it open...hopefully I'll be able to put it back together afterwards. Might need duct tape.

    Pump problems

Hi, I have a Hayward, 1.5 hp pump. It must be 20 years old by the looks of the pool and other equipment...could be even older. I've been living here for five, and its usually worked well. I had the bearings replaced in it two years ago as they were getting noisy. Anyway...today, the pump...

    What's your current pool temp?

I live in Sacramento. It's been mild here the last three weeks...outside temp between 80 and 95 (though today's high was 97). My pool has been sitting at 76 degrees for the last three weeks. Brrr... Obviously I have no heating solution...and the sun is on my pool from about 9:00 to 3:00.

    Air conditioned Heat

Okay, I read a post here about a guy who is using the hot air exhaust from his air conditioner to warm water that is being passed through a radiator. I can't find that post (searched several terms), and I want to ask the guy some more questions...so hopefully he will see my call. :cop: I...

My Solar Heat is BETTER than Yours! ;)

So...kirbinster, How do you like the heat pump? I am trying to figure out how best to heat my pool. I want some clean, neat and cheap. I know it's not a heat pump (cheap) but it is an efficient use of space.

    Polaris 380 not working

Hi, I have a Polaris 380 that is not working. I recently purchased it, and I might be able to return it, but I figure I "broke" it...so I have to fix it. It ran fine at first. My pool was full of debris and the mesh filter clumped up quickly. I remember a pool guy telling me a few years ago...

Cabana Boy says, "Hi from Sacramento!"

Greetings! My wife and I bought our home three years ago, and it came with a pool. It is our first, and we were happy to get it. It's a nice pool...better when it was new I'm sure. Based on the design, we think it was built in the 70's and the everything about the pool appears to be well...

    What's your current pool temp?

Our pool was 76 degrees at 4:00 this afternoon. That's a little chilly, especially with the breeze. Outside temp was 90. We need a heating solution...something cheap, easy and aesthically pleasing. That's not asking too much, is it? :-D
